Jerry Deese

LANCASTER - Mr. Jerry Wayne "Whitey" Deese, 39, of 506 W. Arch St. died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joel Rhyner officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Deese was a plumber.

Surviving are his wife, Renea Terry Deese; three sons, Daniel Lee Deese, Samuel Wayne Deese and Jonathan Thomas Terry, all of Fort Lawn; his daughter, Christy Knight of Lancaster; his mother, Thelma Sellers Deese of Lancaster; four brothers, Winfred Deese Jr., Gerald E. Deese, Donnie R. Deese and Dennis G. Deese, all of Lancaster; and his sister Carolyn Collins of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Alice Gibson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alice Margaret Hughes Gibson, 93, of 2471 Gibson St. died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakewood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gibson was a retired nurse, who worked at Dr. Grover Sheppard's office in Fort Mill for 26 years. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charles Prewton Gibson.

Surviving are her son, Bobby Glenn Gibson Sr. of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, 2471 Gibson St.

Memorials may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church building fund, 3520 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Julius Graham

ROCK HILL - Mr. Julius H. Graham, 79, of 742 Midvale Ave. died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Dorn V.A. Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating, assisted by the Revs. Claire Marsh, James Thompson, C.H. Williams and Wesley Byars. The Rev. Richard A. Graham will give the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mr. Graham was retired from The Herald, was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Federation of the Blind. He was a member of the Rock Hill Senior Citizens, a graduate of Emmett Scott High School and attended Friendship Junior College.

Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Inez G. Graham; six sons, Robert L. Graham of San Francisco, the Rev. James F. Graham of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Clarence H. Graham, the Rev. Richard A. Graham, Julius O. Graham and Charles R. Graham, all of Rock Hill; four daughters, Lucille Johnson of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Catherine Holley of Charlotte, and Helen Ruth Graham and Doris McCullough, both of Columbia; three sisters, Betty Davis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Margaret Fisher and Helen Franklin, both of Rock Hill; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Wednesday.

Malcolm Howell

CHESTER - Mr. Malcolm Lee Howell, 77, formerly of Summersby Street in Chester, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, in Salisbury, Md.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Armenia United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Mary Green Kearse officiating.

Mr. Howell was retired from Steward Oil Transportation as a diesel engineer. He was the widower of Patricia Purrell Howell. He was a senior member of Armenia United Methodist Church with 68 years of membership. He served in the Marines in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5903. He attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are his son, Malcolm Lee Howell Jr. of Richburg; two daughters, Janice Howell Hastings of Chester and Neda Howell Owens of Crisfield, Md.; and two sisters, Edith Howell Grant of Chester and Annie Ruth Howell Campbell of Maui, Hawaii.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Titus Ivory

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Titus Lavell Ivory of 4329 Hyde Park Drive, formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ivory was manager of American Product Distributor INK of Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Carlenia Graham Ivory; three sons, Titus Ivory II, Terrell Ivory, and Robert Graham, all of Charlotte; his daughter, Lisa Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; his mother, Emily Richardson Ivory of Los Angeles; and his sister, Darnell Ivory of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3301 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.

King Funeral Home in Charlotte is in charge.

Moquitta Lackey

CLOVER - Mrs. Moquitta Arrowood Lackey, 64, of 308A Willow Oaks died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clover Church of God, with the Rev. Verson Hodges officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Lackey was the widow of Marvin Lackey Jr. and a member of Clover Church of God. She was retired from Klear Knit.

Surviving are her son, Roger Dale Lackey of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Debra L. Stewart of Clover and Tammy L. Bailey of Conway; two brothers, Earl Arrowood and T.M. Arrowood, both of Clover; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

James Mayfield

CHESTER - Mr. James H. "Booster" Mayfield, 54, of 5552 Woods Ferry Road died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A Chester native, Mr. Mayfield was a former textile employee, former operator of Mayfield's Grocery, former operator of Booster's Lounge and a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Celeste Foote Mayfield; two sons, William Mayfield and James Mayfield, both of the home; two daughters, Betty Reid of Carlisle and Rosetta Brice of Rock Hill; two brothers, William Simpson of Chester and H.C. Mayfield of Carlisle; six sisters, Virginia Simpson of Bronx, N.Y., and Louise Sanders, Sarah Mayfield, Ora Belle Crank, Patricia Mayfield and Joyce Feaster, all of Chester; and four grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at King's Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The family will receive friends at the home.
