Claude Tarleton Sr.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Claude Bennett Tarleton Sr., 92, died Saturday, April, 11, 1998, in Asheville.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Robert J. Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

An Anson County, N.C., native, Mr. Tarleton served in the Army and worked about 15 years at Pee Dee Manufacturing Co. in Rockingham, N.C., and later at Gold-Tex and the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. He retired in the early 1970s. Afterward, he lived in Ellebe, N.C.; Greenwood, S.C.; and in Asheville. He was a member of Pee Dee Baptist Church in Rockingham, N.C.; Park Baptist in Rock Hill and First Baptist Church in Ellebe, N.C. He was the widower of Brama Covington Tarleton.

Surviving are two sons, Bennett Tarleton of Nashville, Tenn., and Jack Tarleton of Asheville; his brother, Harold Tarleton of Peachland, N.C.; his sister, Grace Downer of Lilesville, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will recieve friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Greene Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Greenwood Genetics Center, One Gregor Mendel Circle, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the Tennessee Arts Foundation, 401 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37243.

Arnold Watkins

LANCASTER - Mr. Arnold David "Wally" Watkins, 56, of 1848 Sunny Lane died Monday, April 13, 1998 at his home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. James D. Spencer III officiating.

Mr. Watkins was a retired taxi driver.

Surviving are two sisters, Troy Sanders and Cathy Steele, both of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral home and at other times at the home of David and Troy Sanders, 1848 Sunny Lane.

Nannie Bailey

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nannie L. Bailey, 84, of 1108 Edwards St. died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry McNair officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church and a retiree of J.P. Stevens Industrial Plant with 25 years service. She was the widow of C.W. Bailey.

Surviving are her son, William M. "Bill" Bailey of Rock Hill; five daughters, Leeola Gatlin of Hope Mills, N.C., Betty Crews of Mooresville, N.C., Barbara Price of Myrtle Beach, Fran Sheets of Charlotte, and Martha Hilton of Catawba; her brother, Frank Macomnson of Charlotte; her sister, Mary Brassell of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 1316, Columbia, SC 29202.

Charles Carter

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Charles Richard "Buck" Carter, 64, of 793 Wateree Creek Valley died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Doug Irvin, Guy Oliver and Howard Wimmer officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Carter was a computer operator with Morrison's Textile Machinery. He was an an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended the Chapel of Lake Wateree. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and Spartanburg Junior College.

He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Great Falls Shrine Club.

Surviving are his wife, Ursula Lawson Carter; three sons, Kenneth George Lawson, Richard E. Lawson and Robert T. Lawson, all of Columbia; his sister, Margie Carter of Great Falls; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Marie Durai

CLOVER - Mrs. Marie Biskup Durai, 76, of 1107 Crossland Road died Monday, April 13, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Divine Saviour Church in York, with Fathers Edward McDevitt and John Giuliani officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Durai was a member of Divine Saviour Church and of St. Mary's Circle.

Surviving are her husband, Steve Durai; her son, John Durai of Clover; her brother, Thomas Biskup of Homestead, Fla.; five sisters, Christina Green of Hammond, Ind., Dorothy McCandless of Fresno, Calif., Ruth Bartley of Indianapolis, Julia Leibforth of Norfolk, Va., and Joanie Henkle of Port Lucie, Fla.; and her granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m.

Alice Gibson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alice Margaret Hughes Gibson, 93, of 2471 Gibson St. died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Lakewood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gibson was a retired nurse, who worked at Dr. Grover Sheppard's office in Fort Mill for 26 years. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charles Preston Gibson.

Surviving are her son, Bobby Glenn Gibson Sr. of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church building fund, 3520 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Ione Kendall

FLORENCE - Mrs. Ione Wortham Kendall, 103, of Florence died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Kendall was a native of Texas, where she was educated in Waco public schools and at Baylor University. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She was a former member of the Official Board, a past president of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Lottie Wells Fidelis Sunday school class.

Mrs. Kendall was a member of the Samuel Bacot Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a Real Daughter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Ellison Capers Chapter. She was a charter member of the Florence Literary Club.

She was the widow of Jim Locke Kendall.

Surviving are two sons, James L. Kendall Jr. of Columbia and Jack Kendall of North Augusta; her daughter, Mary Frances Downing of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the church parlor.
