Allene Langley

YORK - Mrs. Allene Rykard Langley, 99, of York died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. James L. Correll officiating.

Mrs. Langley was the owner of Langley Dry Cleaners in York and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of William Cothran Langley.

Surviving are four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of John I. Barron Jr., 6 Broad St., York.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 22 E. Liberty St., York, SC 29745 or to the charity of one's choice.

Allie Randolph

SMYRNA - Mrs. Allie Jane Godfrey Randolph, 88, of 6991 Highway 97 died Monday, April 13, 1998, at her home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. today at Frederick Memorial Gardens in Gaffney, with Dr. Sidney Norton officiating.

Mrs. Randolph was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin Randolph; two sons, George Randolph of Simpsonville and John M. Randolph Sr. of Blacksburg; her daughter, Barbara "Sis" Burkett of Columbia; six grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Rescue Squad, 6009 Wylie Ave., Hickory Grove, SC 29717.

Evelyn Roper

CHESTER - Mrs. Evelyn Walsh Roper, 92, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Chester, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Mayview Nursing Home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Will Brown officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Roper was a retired schoolteacher and homemaker. She was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh and a graduate of Chester High School and Winthrop College.

Mrs. Roper was the widow of Rufus Child Roper Sr.

Surviving are three sons, Rufus Child Roper Sr. of Raleigh; Dr. John Tracy Roper of Charlotte and Dr. Thomas Evatt Roper of Smithfield, N.C.; her brother, Robert A. "Bob" Walsh of Chester; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the parlor of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Barron Funeral Home is in charge.

James Ross Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Hilton Ross Sr., 62, of 3330 India Hook Road died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at India Hook United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ben Barrett officiating.

Mr. Ross was retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of India Hook United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was a member of Rock Hill Lodge 111, the Hejaz Shrine Temple and Scottish Rites body.

Surviving are his wife, Andrea Smith Ross; two sons, James Ross Hilton Jr. and Joseph Ander Ross, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Charles Clifton Ross and Robert David Ross, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Evelyn Ross Christmas, Clara Ross Deas and Ann Ross McGuirt, all of Rock Hill; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to India Hook United Methodist Church building fund, 3300 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Grady Wright

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Grady Robert Wright, 75, of 194 Porter Road died Tuesday, April 13, 1998, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Clayton officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Wright was retired from Wendell Fabrics. He was a charter member of the CKC Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of World War II and attended Hopewell Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Davis Wright; his son, Roger Wright of Blacksburg; his daughter, Frances W. Jackson of Blacksburg; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at White Columns Funeral Service and at other times at the Jackson home, 189 Porter Road, Blacksburg.

Memorials may be made to CKC Volunteer Fire Department, 809 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702.

Virginia Bankhead

STANLEY, N.C. - The funeral for Mrs. Virginia Long Bankhead, 96, formerly of Sharon, who died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in Jonesville will be 3 p.m. today at Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bankhead was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught in the York County schools. She served as a matron at the Episcopal Church Home for Children in York for 12 years. She joined Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church in the early 1920s and at the time of her death was the oldest member. Mrs. Bankhead was the widow of Thomas E. Bankhead.

Surviving are her son, Thomas E. Bankhead of Rock Hill; her daughter, Eleanor B. Craig of Stanley, N.C.; her sister, Ada H. Long of Jonesville; six grandchildren and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Virginia Coleman

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Virginia D. Coleman of 1116 Carolina Extension died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Church of God in Fort Mill, with the Rev. L.W. Edwards officiating and the Revs. John Brown and James Smith assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman graduated from Rock Hill High School. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Rock Hill. She attended the Mount Zion Church of God in Fort Mill.

Surviving are her son, Larry Coleman of Rock Hill; her daughter, Trisha Renee Cunningham of Rock Hill; four brothers, Isaac Dye, John Dye, William Dye Jr. and Jim Henry Dye, all of Charlotte; three sisters, Esther Coleman, Doris Davis and Joanne Burris, all of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The body may be viewed at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.
