Joseph Attaway

JOHNSTON - Mr. Joseph Attaway, 73, of Route 2, Box 318 died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Edgefield County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery

Mr. Attaway was a native of Edgefield County and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Zera Attaway; his son, Joseph Attaway of Philadelphia; his daughter, Sarah Michelle Attaway of Johnston; four brothers, Benjamin Attaway of Washington, Ware Attaway of Jamaica, N.Y., M.C. Attaway of Johnston and Robert L. Attaway of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lydia R. Jones of Washington and Anna Willette Attaway of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.

Butler Funeral Home in Saluda is in charge.

Kay Blackwood

BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. Kay Blackwood, 88, of 811 Old Furnace Road died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist North Spartanburg, with the Revs. Michael Hamlet, Terry Raines and Randy Hahn officiating. Burial will be at Good Shepherd Memorial Park.

A native of Jonesville, Mr. Blackwood was the widower of Martha Louise Wolfe Blackwood. He was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg, where he was a member of the Robert Adams Sunday school class, a former usher and class secretary. He was a member of the Lone Oak Masonic Lodge No. 372. He had been a farmer and worked with the John Dodd School District No. 2 and retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

Surviving are his son, Kay Eugene Blackwood of Rock Hill; three daughters, Shirley Laws of Greenville, Anne Raines of Irmo, and Doris Giles of West Columbia; his brother, Harry Blackwood of Boiling Springs; four sisters, Madge Thompson, Mary Jo Dodd and Rachel Blackwood, all of Spartanburg, and Sarah Hall of Roebuck; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Seawright Funeral Home in Inman.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist North Spartanburg building fund, 8740 Asheville Highway, Spartanburg, NC 29303.

Lonnie Dixon

COLUMBIA - Mr. Lonnie Dixon, 48, of 13 Inway Court, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.

Donald Kimball

FORT MILL - Mr. Donald Webster Kimball, 85, of 154 York Southern Road died Sunday, May 10, 1998 at his home.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Mark Traver officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Tioga Cemetery in Owego, N.Y.

Mr. Kimball volunteered at Heritage USA as a greeter of the PTL programs. He was a doorman for the Heritage Grand Hotel and was Santa Claus on Main Street at New Heritage USA. In Ithaca, N.Y., he called on the sick in nursing homes and hospitals for more than 40 years. He volunteered with the Salvation Army at Christmas and received the "Others Award" in 1984.

A native of New Brunswick, Canada, Mr. Kimball was a potato farmer and worked for Morse Chain in Ithaca for 24 years.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Kimball; his son, Dana Lee Kimball of Fort Mill; his daughter, Gloria Chase of Owego, N.Y.; his brother, Willard Kimball of Hartland, New Brunswick; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 339 Elmira Road, Ithaca, NY 14850-5103.

Ruth Mason

CHESTER - Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Varnadore Roof Mason, 79, of 675 Lancaster Road died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at the Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Purity Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Joe Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Mason was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, George P. Mason; two sons, R. Phil Roof of Irmo and L. Eugene Roof of Richmond Hill, Ga.; her daughter, Annette Moser of Chester; four brothers, Johnny Varnadore of Blackstock, Allen Varnadore of Chester, Bobby Varnadore and Henry Varnadore, both of Rock Hill; five sisters, Lila Burns, Myrtle Steen, Anna Shirley and Ellen Davis, all of Chester, and Viola Price of Fort Mill; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Memorials may be made to Purity Presbyterian Church, Wylie Street, Chester, SC 29706.

Marisha Moffatt

CATAWBA - Marisha Ladaisha Moffatt, the 17-month-old daughter of Ms. Tolivia Moffatt of 36 Hill Drive died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance, with the Rev. Jerry Gadsden officiating and the Rev. Stephen Love assisting. Burial will be at Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her father, Maurice Phillips of Catawba; her brother, Jaquese Moffatt of Catawba; her maternal grandmother, Sara Ingram of Catawba; maternal grandfather, Bobby Ingram of Rock Hill; paternal grandmother, Doretha Phillips of Rock Hill; paternal grandfather, Bobby Hunt of Rock Hill; maternal great-grandmother, Leitha Moffatt of Catawba; paternal great-grandmother, Janie Lee Thorne of Rock Hill; paternal great-great-grandmother, Idella Phillips of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Leitha Moffatt, 747 Hall Spencer Road in Catawba.

Muriel Rudder

CHESTER - Mrs. Muriel Orr Rudder, 66, of 815 Pine Ridge Road died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Huestess officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Rudder retired from Springs Industries, where she trained weavers from 1969 to 1995. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and attended Chester County schools.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph Rudder Jr.; her daughter, Jan Byars of Chester; her brother, William R. Orr of Chester; two sisters, Daphyne Orr Wynn of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Shirley Boyd of Fort Lawn.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or Hospice of York County, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 477, Chester, SC 29706.
