Samuel Funderburk

LANCASTER - Mr. Samuel Rayford Funderburk, 87, of 2698 Jerry Funderburk Road died Tuesday, May, 5, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Funderburk was a retired employee of Springs Industries Grace Bleachery. He was a member of Wannamaker Masonic Lodge 329 and Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Eula Mae Jenkins Funderburk; three daughters, Brenda Hinson, Rhonda Sistare and Anita Funderburk, all of Lancaster; two brothers, Harold Funderburk and Morris "John" Funderburk, both of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Alfred Gurrie

ROCK HILL - Mr. Alfred D. Gurrie, 84, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Cramerton Mountain Freewill Holiness Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Painter and Richard Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Gurrie was a member of Cramerton Mountain Freewill Holiness Church in Cramerton, N.C. He was retired from Union Carbide in Charleston, W.Va.

Surviving are his wife, Birdie Shackelford Gurrie; two stepsons, David Shackelford of Rock Hill and Roger Shackelford of Greenville; four stepdaughters, Shirley Miskelly, Pauline Estes, Joan Helms and Tonda Shackelford, all of Rock Hill; 11 stepgrandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Alexa Henry

ROCK HILL - Alexa L. Hopcus Henry, the infant daughter of Andrew C. and Teather Hopcus Henry, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandparents, Lynn and Diane Henry of Rock Hill; her maternal grandparents, Nelson and Annette Hopcus of Rock Hill; and her paternal great-grandparents, Charles and Bertha Hanshaw of Brunson, Mich.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret Kelly

LANCASTER - Mrs. Margaret Dobson Kelly, 84, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Marion Medical Center in Marion.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker and a member of First Methodist Church in Lancaster. She was the widow of A.W. Kelly Sr.

Surviving are her son, A.W. Kelly Jr. of Marion.

Ruth Roberts

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruth Rymer Robert, 75, of 609 Cauthen St. died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She was the widow of Jay H. Roberts.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

John Robinson

LANCASTER - Mr. John Levy Robinson, 51, of 1755 McIlwain Road died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Sherwood Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gary Rogers and Curtis Cameron officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Robinson was a retired security guard with Lehigh Steel and was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Phillips Robinson; two sons, Billy Ray Robinson and John David Robinson, both of the home; his daughter, April Renea Robinson of the home; his brother, Freddie Eugene Robinson of Lancaster; and his sister, Susan McCall of Nebo, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Edith Strickland

FORT MILL - Mrs. Edith Nell Collins Strickland, 69, of 1B Knollwood Apartments died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roland Dry officiating.

Mrs. Strickland was a retired nurse.

Surviving are her son, Jerry W. Wright of Fort Mill; her daughter, Sherry W. Bailey of Fort Mill; her brother, Herman Collins of Fort Mill; two sisters, Nancy C. Coley of Fort Mill and Deanne Pearsall of Connecticut; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the home.
