Ralph McClure

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mr. Ralph Henderson McClure, 68, of 1335 Joyce Court who died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Magnolia Manor will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Forrest Musselman officiating and the Rev. Glen Self assisting. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. McClure was a retiree of Westinghouse Inc., Charlotte, with 20 years of service. He played gospel music in various churches in the Southeast. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Penley McClure; his son, Larry McClure of Rock Hill; his daughter, Catherine M. Gibson of Kings Mountain, N.C.; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Annie Phillips

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Annie M. Phillips, 92, of 837 Jefferson Street died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital in Atlanta.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A Fairfield County native, Mrs. Phillips was a retired domestic worker. She was the widow of Laurie Phillips.

Surviving are her two sisters, Sarah Quinn and Willie M. Boulware, both of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be placed in the church Saturday at 2 p.m.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge.

Kenneth Starnes

ROCK HILL - Mr. Kenneth Maxel Starnes, 52, of 328 Keels Ave. died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Bostrom officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Starnes was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the New Believers Sunday school class. He was a 1963 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a 1965 graduate of Kings College in Charlotte. He was a training director and supervisor at Eastern Air Lines for 22 years. He was the manager of CCI Travel Agency in Rock Hill.

Surviving are his mother, Louise Rainer Starnes of Rock Hill; his brother, Dennis Starnes of Rock Hill; and his sister, Janet Starnes Morrison of Albuquerque, N.M.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 1221 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Moses Wright

YORK - Mr. Moses Wright, 71, of 301 Sharon Road died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in York, with Elder George Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens.

An Orangeburg native, Mr. Wright was a Jehovah's Witness for 35 years. He was a 35-year New York state employee and was retired.

Surviving are his wife, Sallie M. Wright; his daughter, Lynn R. Boka of Las Vegas; his mother, Mary Thompson of New York; his brother, Douglas Thompson of New York; his sister, Carolyn Johnson of New York; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and will lie in state from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Willie Baxter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Willie Washington Baxter of 1126 Glenarden Drive died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rehoboth AME Zion Church in Chester, with the Rev. W.H. Woods Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Baxter was a native of Chester County. She was a retired employee of Winthrop University. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and a former member of Rehoboth AME Zion Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Weeping Mary Chapter. She attended the public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are her daughter, Bernell B. Thompson of Rock Hill, and two grandchildren.

The body can be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Monday.

Ruby Blackwelder

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ruby Mae Hough Blackwelder, 70, of 1202 McDow Drive died Thursday, May 7, 1998.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Mill Church of God, with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackwelder was retired from Willamette Industries Inc., where she worked as a machine operator.

Surviving are her husband, Fred Lee Blackwelder Jr.; her son, Terry Blackwelder of Rock Hill; three daughters, Brenda Drake, Virginia Lockridge and Kay Wright, all of Rock Hill; her brother, Robert Hough of Rock Hill; four sisters, Mary Minton of McConnells, Hassie Starnes and Annie George, both of Rock Hill, and Lottie Thomas of Blue Ridge, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Fort Mill Church of God seniors' Young at Heart, 221 Academy St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Gene Byers Jr.

COLUMBIA - Mr. Gene "Hoppy" Byers Jr., 51, of Herman Street died Wednesday, May 6, 1998.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heath Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Great Falls with the Revs. John Rumford and Roger Weaver officiating.

Mr. Byers was a Vietnam War veteran and served in the Marine Corps. He was employed in bridge construction. He was a member of Heath Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Great Falls schools.

Surviving are two sons, Jason Byers of Great Falls and Garrett Byers of Shallotte, N.C.; two sisters, Wendy Walker of Lancaster and Mary Ann Garrett of Satellite Beach, N.C.; his brother, Scott Sneed of Goldsboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.
