Isabel Oates

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Isabel Jackson Oates, 92, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Magnolia Manor.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tirzah ARP Church with Dr. Barry Eller and the Revs. Jim Bell and Lester Parrish officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Oates was a member of Tirzah ARP Church since 1924, where she belonged to the Women's Society of Tirzah ARP Church and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the DAR Catawba Chapter. She retired from the clothing industry as a salesperson and did home mission work in the mountains of North Carolina.

She was the widow of John H. "Jake" Oates.

Surviving are her son, Monroe J. Oates of Louisville, Ky.; her daughter, Lelia O. Darby of Mount Pleasant; her sister, Stokes Hutchinson of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Tirzah ARP Church.

Jessie Givens

FORT MILL - Mr. Jessie Givens, 69, of 230 Drane Circle died Thursday, April 23, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Clemons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mildred Patton officiating. Burial will be at Green Hill in Fort Mill.

Born in York County, Mr. Givens was a retired sanitation worker for the Town of Fort Mill.

Surviving are his wife, Hattie Givens of the home; his son, Jessie Givens Jr. of Charlotte; two stepsons, Gusta Harfield and Robert James, both of Fort Mill; his stepdaughter, Shirley Harfield; his sister, Lena Brown of Charlotte; his brother, Mack Givens of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Clemons Funeral Home.

Hattie Grigsby

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Hattie Ophelia Dudley Grigsby, 94, of 1066 Evergreen Circle died Friday, April 24, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel with Dr. William A. Fox, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Born in Texas, Mrs. Grigsby was a retired homemaker and a member of Deer Park Baptist Church in Deer Park, Texas.

Surviving are her daughter, Geanne Anders of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel, and other times at the home of her daughter, 1066 Evergreen Circle.

Angel Marshall

CHESTER - Angel Marshall, the infant daughter of Rodney and Sharon Walker Marshall of 2827 East Pinewood Road, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 6 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Park in Forest City, N.C., with the Rev. Bobby Gantt officiating.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandparents, Bob and Priscilla Marshall of Forest City, N.C.; her maternal grandparents, Landy and Diane Walker of Rutherfordton, N.C.; her paternal great-grandparents, Evelyn Marshall and Paul and Lavinia Haulk, all of Forest City, N.C.; and her maternal great-grandparents, Worth and Estelle Walker and Lydia Harris, all of Rutherfordton, N.C.

Harrelson Funeral Home is in charge.

Donald Edwards Jr.

FORT MILL - Mr. Donald John Edwards Jr., 68, of 427 Sweet Gum Drive died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Central Church of God in Charlotte, with the Revs. Loran Livingston and Greg Baker officiating. Burial will be at Hoyles Cemetery in Oakland, Md.

Mr. Edwards was retired from Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., where he worked in finance management. He was president of the Dogwood Hills Homeowners' Association and was a member of the Central Church of God in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lu Browning Edwards; six sons, Craig D. Edwards and Kevin P. Edwards, both of Clawson, Mich., Ed Scofield and Tim Scofield, both of McHenry, Md., Frank Scofield of New Wilmington, Penn., and Mac Scofield of Kingsport, Tenn.; his daughter, Becky Scofield of Garden Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Shirley Arbanas of Garden City, Mich., and Merry Lynn Scheck of San Diego; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Henry Howze

CATAWBA - The funeral for Mr. Henry "Noonie" Howze, 71, of 5489 Howze Road, who died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion AME Zion Church in Landsford Community, with the Rev. Alan Stewart officiating and the Revs. James A. Hayes, Miriam Crawford and Leroy Ellison assisting.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Howze was a native of Chester County. He was a member of Mount Zion AME Zion Church, where he was past pastor's steward. He attended the public schools of Chester County. He retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Co., and he was a former employee of Manetta Mills in Lando.

Surviving are his wife, Marian Blackmon Howze; his son, Frankie L. Howze of the home; his daughter, Deloris Howze of Lancaster; three brothers, Roosevelt Howze and Floyd Howze, both of Edgemoor, and Johnny B. Howze of Rock Hill; five sisters, Ora L. Blake and Francina Ivory, both of New York, Thelma Edwards, Veola Howze and Lena Robinson, all of Edgemoor; six grandchildren whom he reared, Melissa Howze and Angel Williams, both of the home, Tonya Howze of Lancaster, Denois Howze and Raynard Barnes, both of Texas, and Tracy Howze of Fort Lawn; and six other grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at King's Funeral Home.

The body will taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
