Rosa Backstrom

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Rosa Mae Backstrom, 53, of Fort Lawn died Monday, April 13, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Ezell AME Zion Church, with the Rev. William Norris Long officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Backstrom was a Chester native and a member of Union Ezell AME Zion Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Crawford of the home and Lillie M. Robertson of Fort Lawn.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

McCray Funeral Home is in charge.

Donald Edens

ROCK HILL - Mr. "Jack" Donald Edens, 74, of 1317 Bose Ave. died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Mr. Edens was a native of Rosman, N.C., and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired quality control inspector from Hoechst Celanese with 40 years of service. He was an Army veteran and served in World War II.

Surviving are his brother, Dan Edens of Brevard, N.C., and his sister, Mildred Kilpatrick of Brevard, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, S.C. Affiliate, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, SC 29260.

Enzie Ervin

ROCK HILL - Miss Enzie Ervin of 314 N. Confederate Street died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. B.R. Wilson officiating.

Miss Ervin was a native of York County. She attended local public schools and was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and viewing will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral. At other times, the family will be at 841 Arlington Ave., Rock Hill.

Helen Hinson

LANCASTER - Mrs. Helen Criminger Hinson, 72, of 1158 Bailey Road died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Buford Hayes and Dr. Archie Neal officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hinson was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, John B. Hinson; her son, Mike Hinson of Lancaster; three daughters, Dianne Phillips, Kathy Johnson and Mary Beth Hoffman, all of Lancaster; her brother, Ray Criminger of Lancaster; five sisters, Willene Gardner of Myrtle Beach, Mildred Kennington, Mary Faulkenberry, Marcene Neal and Nellie Bradley, all of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Building, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Carolyn Keels

ROCK HILL - Ms. Carolyn Corley Keels, 73, of 751 Harrell Street died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Ms. Keels was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and in the choir for more than 60 years. She was member of the United Methodist Women's Circle. She was retired from Bayer Corp., where she was a secretary. She was a member of the Professional Secretaries Association and was Secretary of the Year in 1968.

Surviving are three brothers, Edward Corley of Rock Hill; Bennie L. Corley of Chester and William N. Corley of Monroe, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2697 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Melinda Patterson

KERSHAW - Mrs. Melinda Jones Harris Patterson of 200 E. Stevens St. died Wednesday, April 15, 1998.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Unity Baptist Church, with the Rev. R.J. Waiters officiating. Burial will be at Highland Heights Cemetery.

Mrs. Patterson was a native of Kershaw and a member of Unity Baptist Church, where she was on the Usher Board, was the Flower Club President and was a member of the Pastor's Aid Club.

Surviving are her husband, Johnny Patterson of Kershaw; two sons, James White Jr. of Philadelphia and Forrest James Hendricks of Pageland; two daughters, Tina Louise McCory of Buffalo, N.Y., and Hermena Harris of Kershaw; two sisters, Joan E. Jones Allen of Philadelphia and Terri Jones of Kershaw; and seven grandchildren.

Kirkland Funeral Home is in charge.

James Pearson

ROCK HILL - Mr. James "Buddy" Matthew Pearson, of 419 Baker St. died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel of Remembrance, with the Rev. Victor Wilson officiating and the Rev. Ronal King assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Pearson was a native of Chester County and attended the public schools of York County. He joined Nazareth Baptist Church at an early age.

Surviving are his daughter, Audrey Dunlap of Rock Hill; his brother, Willie Pearson of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Clara Pettus of Fort Mill and Estelle Robinson of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at 914 Martin St. and at 900 Ogden Road.
