George Eaton

LAKE WYLIE - Mr. George Matthew Eaton, 59, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hicksville, N.Y. Burial will be at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Eaton was the former sheriff of York County, and a former sergeant with the New York City Police Department. He was a member of River Hills Lion Club and the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Marunchak Eaton; his son, Michael Eaton of West Babylon, N.Y.; his daughter, Christine E. Azzaro of Plainview, N.Y.; his mother, Irene McKinney Eaton of Hicksville, N.Y.; his brother, Robert Eaton of Hicksville, N.Y.; his sister, Irene Eaton of Hicksville, N.Y.; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. today at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation, Heart Association, Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Catherine Maxie

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Catherine C. "Mama Cat" Maxie, 79, of 1865 Twin Lakes Road died Monday, May 18, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Patty Griffith-Fallaw and Bart Plaxco officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Maxie was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was on the Board of Trustees, and was church treasurer and a steward. She was retired from Hoechst Celanese from the P.A. lab department.

Surviving are her husband, George Edward Maxie Sr.; two sons, J. Benny Maxie and George "Eddie" Maxie Jr., both of Rock Hill; her daughter, Janet Plaxco of York; her brother, George Campbell of Kings Mountain, N.C.; her sister, Sarah Sullivan of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

In lieu of memorials, please send flowers.

Ruby McDowell

DILLON - Mrs. Ruby Mae Edge McDowell, 62, of Dillon died Monday, May 18, 1998, at St. Eugene Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Dillon, Mrs. McDowell was a homemaker.

Surviving are four sons, Danny L. McDowell, Randall W. McDowell and Sam L. McDowell Jr., all of Dillon, and Michael L. McDowell of Rock Hill; her sister, Betty Lou Hyatt of Dillon; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dora McMillian

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Mrs. Dora Lee Elliott McMillian, 58, of 209 N. 7th St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be at Calvary Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are her father, Willie Elliott of Wilmington; her daughter, Rosa Durham of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Adkins-Drain Funeral Service is in charge.

Johnny Rodgers

ROCK HILL - A memorial service for Mr. Johnny G. Rodgers, 57, of 300 Annafrel St., who died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his home, will be 3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Wyatt officiating.

Mr. Rodgers was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He was the organizer of the Rock Hill Roll Dawgs Wheelchair basketball team. He was an active volunteer with the York County Crescent Shrine Club and a former patient at the Shriner's Hospital. He also was a volunteer with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Surviving are his wife, Georgia M. Rodgers; two brothers, Jerry H. Rodgers of Sumter and Roger Rodgers of Holden Beach, N.C.; two sisters, Annie Wilkes of Edgemoor and Jennie Hart of Catawba.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home after the service and at other times at the home of his sister, Annie Wilkes, 4052 Whiteside Drive, Edgemoor.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Guy Smith Sr.

YORK - Mr. Guy Hudson Smith Sr., 88, of Jefferson Street, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at York ARP Church, with the Rev. Tony Grant officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Smith was a retired postmaster in York. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a graduate of The Citadel, and was a 50-year member of the York Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Mr. Smith was the first director of the York County Department of Public Welfare and was former owner of York Dry Cleaners. He was elder, deacon, and was clerk of the session for 16 years at York ARP Church. He was the widower of Isabel Caldwell Smith.

Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Guy H. Smith Jr. of Lancaster and Charles L. Smith of Kingsport, Tenn.; two brothers, Ralph L. Smith of Atmore, Ala., and Harry W. Smith of Kingsport, Tenn.; his sister, Irene S. Hayes of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Henry Tregner

LANCASTER - Mr. Henry Tregner, 92, of 3108 Shiloh Unity Road died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at his home.

Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Chicago.

A native of Chicago, Mr. Tregner was a retired plumber. He was a member of St. Mark's Angelical Lutheran Church in Chicago.

Surviving are his wife, Georgina Kocourek Tregner; his stepson, Les Kanna of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Hartley Funeral Home in Lancaster is in charge.
