Annie Walters

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Mrs. Annie Marion Walters, 91, of 400 Avinger Lane died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at The Pines in Davidson.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Chester ARP Church, with the Rev. Dwight Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Walters was the widow of Charles Rufus Walters Sr. She was a homemaker and artist. She graduated from Erskine College in Due West and attended the National Academy of Design in New York. She lived in Greenwood for 40 years before moving the The Pines Retirement Home in 1988. She was a member of the Star Fort Daughters of the American Revolution and the Greenwood Study Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood.

Surviving are her son, Charles Rufus Walters Jr. of New York; two daughters, Anne Richards of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Margaret Miyake of Fairport, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to The Pines resident fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036.

Marion Anderson Jr.

JACKSON, Miss. - Mr. Marion Anderson Jr., formerly of York, died Friday, May 8, 1998, in Memphis, Tenn.

A memorial service will be Saturday at Jackson Memorial Park in Jackson.

Surviving are his wife, Stella Anderson of the home; and his sister, Lucille A. Tolbert of York.

M.J. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge.

Wright Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Palmer Burgess Sr.

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mr. Palmer Lee Burgess Sr., 73, of 763 N. Confederate Ave., who died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Sisk officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Burgess was a retiree of Catawba Asphalt Paving Co. with 15 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the South Carolina Sheriff's Association. He was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Miskelly Burgess; three sons, James W. Burgess and Gary G. Burgess, both of Rock Hill, and Palmer Lee Burgess Jr. of York; five daughters, Lynn B. Mobley and Donna Talley, both of Rock Hill, Terry A. Smith of York, Diane Angel of Pineville, N.C., and Laura Beth Dennis of Indian Land; his brother, William "Sonny" Burgess of Great Falls; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Dorothy Covington

ROCK HILL - The funeral for Mrs. Dorothy Carnes Covington, 88, of 1398 Allison Circle, who died Monday, May 18, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center will be 3 p.m. today at Ebenezer ARP Church, with the Revs. Charles Mitchell and Jack Basie officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Covington was a homemaker and a member of the Ebenezer ARP Church, where she was a member of the Second Mile Club and the ladies Sunday school class. She was the widow of Clyde H. Covington.

Surviving are two sons, Joe B. Covington of Rock Hill and Sidney H. Covington of Charlotte; two daughters, Evelyn C. Griggs and Mamie C. Jackson, both of Rock Hill; her brother, Furman Carnes of Rock Hill; two sisters, Eula C. Garrison of Rock Hill and Alma Lee Mahaffey of Fort Mill; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Mamie C. Jackson, 1398 Allison Circle, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Park Avenue Adult Daycare Center, 359 Park Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Ebenezer ARP Church, 2132 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Bertha Knight

LANCASTER - Mrs. Bertha "Birdie" Sistare Knight, 82, of 1953 Bertha Knight Road died Tuesday, May, 19, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Towler and Mr. Eric Reel officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Knight was the widow of William Woodrow Knight. She was a retired employee of Sacony in Pageland. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union, a choir member and taught the preschool Sunday school class.

Surviving are three sons, William F. Knight, Vann C. Knight and Glen W. Knight, all of Lancaster; two daughters, Ellen Carey Wallace and Linda Dianne Hegler, both of Lancaster; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Knight will be taken to her son's home, 1953 Bertha Knight Road, this afternoon, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight.

Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church van fund, 2345 Old Camden Monroe Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Lottie White

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Lottie Blake White, 99, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ninth Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Washington.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Marshall Funeral Home, 4217 9th St. N.W., Washington, DC 20011, is in charge.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Sidney White

FORT MILL - Mr. A. Sidney White, 85, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Unity Cemetery.

Born in Fort Mill, Mr. White retired from Alabama Power Co. and served with the Army's 1st Armored Division during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star.

Surviving his brother, William E. White of Fort Mill; and his sister, Mary Hinson, Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Whitesell-Wolfe Funeral Home.
