Martha Barnes

ALBEMARLE, N.C. - Ms. Martha Louise "Marty" Dennis Barnes, 39, of 809 Moss Springs Road died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Darrell Huneycutt officiating. Burial will be in Norview Gardens in Norwood, N.C.

Ms. Barnes was employed at Wal-Mart as electronics department manager.

Surviving are two sons, Tommy Barnes and Jeremy Barnes, both of Concord, N.C.; her mother, Helen Marie Burris Dennis of Albemarle; her brother, Jerry J. Dennis of Albemarle; six sisters, Linda Hilton of Rock Hill, Veronica Ingram and Tammy Dennis, both of Albemarle, Doris Davis of Bossier City, La., and Lois Roland and Judy Fraley, both of New London, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home at other times at the home of her mother, 1505 Lee Lynn Drive, Albemarle, N.C.

Richard Boatwright

FORT MILL - Mr. Richard G. Boatwright, 71, of 408 Williamson St. died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wolfe Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Belk officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Mecklenburg County, N.C., Mr. Boatwright was a retired carpenter and member of Providence Baptist Church in Waxhaw, N.C. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma L. Boatwright; two sons, Richard L. Boatwright of Mount Holly, N.C., and Joseph Douglas Boatwright of Rock Hill; three daughters, Brenda Mahadeo of Stanley, N.C., Pansy Austin and Patricia Stauffer, both of Rock Hill; five step-children; four sisters, Mary Osborne of Fort Mill, Evelyn Wallen of Chester, Frances Denton of Hickory, N.C., and Irene Blocker of Charlotte; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the homes of Thelma L. Boatwright, 408 Williamson St. in Fort Mill and Pansy Austin, 407 Frazier St. in Rock Hill.

Ethel Bowen

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Mrs. Ethel Mae Bowen, 59, formerly of Shelby, N.C., died Wednesday, April 29, 1998.

A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby, N.C., with the Rev. Keith Dixon officiating.

Surviving are Mrs. Bowen's husband, Forrest William Bowen; her son, Michael W. Bowen of Escondido; three daughters, Yvonne Cook of Temecula, Calif., and Kathy Mistowski and Teresa Kay Valigura, both of Escondido; her mother, Zennie May Hamrick of Earl, N.C.; five brothers, Dennis Hamrick of Earl, N.C., Benton Hamrick, Ray Hamrick, Harold Hamrick and Floyd Hamrick, all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Patricia Hamrick of Shelby, N.C., and Nancy Ledbetter of Boiling Springs, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

McLeod Mortuary is in charge.

Jannie Caldwell

ORANGE, N.J. - Mrs. Jannie Marion Swift Caldwell of 387 S. Harrison St., formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, May 18, 1998.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at United Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Sykes officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Newark, N.J.

Mrs. Caldwell was formerly a member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill, where she served on the usher board. She was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church in Orange.

Surviving are her son, Charles Caldwell of Orange, N.J.; six daughters, Mattie L. Spaulding of Jacksonville, Fla., Thelma Craig of Buffalo, N.Y., Dora Mae Brown, Elizabeth McCleod and Jo Ann Davis, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Beatrice Caldwell of East Orange, N.J.; her brother, Samuel Swift of Philadelphia; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Darlene Hickey

TEGA CAY - Mrs. Darlene Connell Hickey, of 1002 Palmyra Drive died Thursday, May 21, 1998 at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior with Father Tom Carter officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Detroit, Mrs. Hickey moved to Tega Cay 21 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Hickey; her son, Tom Hickey of Plymouth, Mich.; her daughter, Donna Hickey of Rock Hill; her parents, James and Ruth Esther Connell of Westland, Mich.; her brother, Raymond Connell of Howell, Mich; her sister, Ruth Rudzis, of Westland Mich.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill and at other times at the home.

Cleopatra McCann

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Cleopatra Spann McCann died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Montgomery General Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at People's Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Md.

Mrs. McCann was the widow of Thurman B. McCann.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelia Y. McCann and Thurma McCann Goldman; two sisters, Dr. Julia Spann Long of Union and Dr. Annabelle Spann Boykin of Lancaster; and six grandchildren.

Marshall's Funeral Home is in charge.

Blanche Peeler

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Blanche Valley Peeler, 74 of 315-C N. Jones Ave. died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 am. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Peeler was a homemaker and a member of Park Baptist Church, where she attended the Ruth Sunday school class. She was the widow of Floyd Ray Peeler Sr.

Surviving are three sons, Ray Peeler of Catawba, Eddy Peeler of York and Jerry Peeler of Ocoee, Fla.; five daughters, Nancy Anderson, Elaine Jenkins, Delores McSwain, Marylee Cauthen and Sheila Wren, all of Rock Hill; her mother, Cora Lee Bostian Valley of Imperial Beach, Calif.; two brothers, James Valley and Ted Valley, both of Chula Vista, Calif.; five sisters, Margie Brown of Chula Vista, Calif., Lillian Valley of Castleberry, Fla., Faye Kimbrell and Catherine Valley DeMaris, both of Imperial Beach, Calif.; and Joyce Valley Matthews of California; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.
