Earl Sanders Jr.

CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Earl Sanders Jr., 56, of 1104 Clyde Hollow Road in the Wilksburg community, who died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Hope Hospital in Lockhart, will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Washington officiating and the Revs. J.G. Jones, W.W. Thompson, Columbus Pendergrass Jr., McKinley Miles, J.K. Stringfellow, Bill Stringfellow Jr., Daniel Chisholm, Oliver Royal and J.D. McClurkin; and pastors Cliff Dye, Keith Taylor and William Able assisting. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was a member of Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and choir member. He was president of the AP&B Society No. 17 and was the Grand President of the AP&B Society. He was superintendent of the Sunday school. He was past master and member of Burning Bush Masonic Lodge No. 186. He was a Royal Arch Mason. He was a Worthy Patron of Bright Light Chapter No. 146 Order of Eastern Star. He was employed by Springs Industries as an electrical technician.

Surviving are his wife, Ione M. Sanders; two sons, Jasper Sanders Sr. of Carlisle and Roger M. Sanders of the home; his daughter, Kishea Sanders of Brunswick, Ga.; five brothers, John L. Sanders of Carlisle, Hubert Worthy, Terry Worthy, Wayne Worthy and Darryl Worthy, all of Chester; six sisters, Classie McNeil of Carlisle, Renita Worthy and Lucille Worthy, both of Chester, Brenda Worthy of Detroit, Mich., Miranda Worthy-Foster of Union and Vanessa Rhyne of Rock Hill; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday with Eastern Star Rites at King's Funeral Home

The body will taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, 3030 Pinckney Road, Chester, SC 29706.

John Charles Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Henry Charles Sr., 74, of 2510 Indian Trail died Friday, May 22, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Catawba Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jamie Coley officiating. Burial will be private.

Mr. Charles was a retired general contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church. He was the widower of Cora Lee Charles.

Surviving are two sons, John Henry "Squeeky" Charles Jr. and Raymond Eugene "Slick" Charles, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Judy C. Shelley of Catawba, Jerri Porter of Rock Hill and Pat McKeown of York; three sisters, Gladys Martin of Newberry, Helen Hamacher of Rock Hill and Clara Massey of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Judy C. Shelley, 4715 Cureton Ferry Road in Catawba.

Memorials may be made to Blessed Hope Baptist Church, P.O. Box 459, Fort Mill, SC 29716.

Charlene Johnson

CHESTER - Mrs. Charlene McKay Johnson, 60, of 1029 Pine Ridge Road died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Barron Funeral Home, with the Revs. Donald Scoggins and Dennis Reid officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church. A native of Whitmire, she was a homemaker and attended the Chester County schools.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Wayne Johnson and David Lynn Johnson, both of Chester; five daughters, Penney J. Hollis, Tracy J. Mobley, Teresa J. McAteer, Patricia J. Bailey and Debra J. Holder, all of Chester; her mother, Anna Gordon McKay of Chester; two brothers, Robert David McKay and John Dean McKay, both of Chester; two sisters, Joanne M. Lewis of Rock Hill and Sandy M. Oliver of Chester; eight grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, 710 Meadowbrook Road, Chester, SC 29706.

Grover Knight

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Grover Love Knight, 63, of 274 Wildwood Road died Friday, May 22, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Evangel Temple Assembly of God, with the Revs. Mike Sollers, Larry Roberts and Doug Irvin officiating.

Mr. Knight was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was a retired auto body repairman and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He attended the schools of Great Falls.

Surviving are his wife, Ernestine S. Knight; his son, Tommy Knight of Great Falls; five daughters, Kimberly Knight and Debra Croxton, both of Great Falls, and Peggy Swindell, Glenda Sistare and Sharon Cooper, all of Lancaster; two sisters, Edna Day and Lena Dawkins, both of Great Falls; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the home of his daughter, Kimberly Knight, 110 Wildwood Road, Great Falls.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home is in charge.

Thelma Murphy

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Thelma Louise Murphy, 84, of Rock Hill died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at McEwen Funeral Home on Morehead Street in Charlotte, with the Rev. Greg Means officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ed Chidester giving the prayer.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship Church in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her husband, John E. Murphy; two sons, Charles Thompson and Mike Murphy; three daughters, Joyce Otto, Janice Haggerty and Pam Guskie; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital, Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Coy Smith

LANCASTER - Mr. Coy L. Smith, 50, of 3577 Chester Highway died Friday, May 22, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Pate officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Smith was a plant foreman for Bowers Fibers.

Surviving are his wife, Katie Boatwright Smith; his son, Mitchell "Goat" Smith of Lancaster; two daughters, Laura Adams of Heath Springs and Betty Smith of Lancaster; his stepdaughter, April Smith of Rock Hill; his stepson, Mac Boatwright of Rock Hill; five brothers, William P. Smith, Jessie Lee Smith, Roger S. Smith, all of Fort Mill, and Edward Lee Smith and James Smith, both of Lancaster; four sisters, Marie Blackwell and Jane Blackwell, both of Fort Mill, Betty Jean Hensley of Leslie and Barbara Ann Martin of Lubbock, Texas; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Thomas Davis

FORT MILL - Mr. Thomas Anthony Davis, 43, of 124-B Bozeman St., died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Mr. Davis was a native of Chester.

Surviving are his mother, Martha F. Davis of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends at the home of Helen King, 202 Drane Circle, Fort Mill.

Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill is in charge.
