Hazel Robinson

LANCASTER - Mr. Hazel Virgil Robinson, 89, of 4195 Hurley Walters Road died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Almetta Baptist Church, with the Rev. James J. Steen officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Robinson was the widower of Cora Moree Robinson. He was a member of Almetta Baptist Church and retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his son, Rommie Robinson of Jefferson; his daughter Ofelphena Walters of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Almetta Baptist Church, P.O. Box 415, Jefferson, SC 29718.

Loyd Shaw

ROCK HILL - Mr. Loyd Shaw, 76, of 4580 Summerlin Place died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Northside Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry K. Sosebee and E. Ray Mohrmann officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Shaw owned and operated Shaw's Quick Stop. He operated an open-air market on Oakland Avenue in the 1940s and a Cherry Road supermaket in the 1960s. Shaw was a past president of the South Carolina Food Retailers Association in 1973 to 1974 and was named Grocery Man of the Year in 1975.

He was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of the American Legion and the Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce. A member of Northside Baptist Church, he was deacon for a number of years.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne Clowney and Betty Sue Seigler, both of Rock Hill; three stepsons, Charles Eugene Shaw and James "Jimmy" Shaw, both of Florida, and Robert "Bobby" Shaw of Blacksburg; his stepdaughter, Pat Matthews of Knoxville, Tenn.; three brothers, Jack L. Shaw of Columbia, W. Paul Shaw and Howard L. Shaw, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Phyllis Peay of Rock Hill; four grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church building fund, 1140 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Grace Lutheran Church, 426 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Syble Sims

LANCASTER - Mrs. Syble Lee Jenkins Sims, 53, of 1750 Old Charles St. died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and attended the Christian Assembly Church.

Surviving are her husband, Charles J. Sims; her son, Charles J. "Rusty" Sims of Chester, her daughter, Sarah Lynne Taylor of Lancaster; her brother, J.T. Jenkins of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Errol Bannister

ROCK HILL - Mr. Errol Stephen Bannister, 57, of 20 Cauthen St. died Thursday, May 28, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Holley officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Bannister was of the Baptist faith and worked for Loftin and Co. for 23 years.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Rabon Barnes; his son, Monty "Jim" Bannister of Spokane, Wash.; his daughter, Sherri Roth of Longview, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Belinda Whitley and Tina Acord, both of Rock Hill; his stepbrother, Jim Bannister of Cary, N.C.; his stepsister, Jamie May of Cary, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Lessie Carrouth

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Mrs. Lessie Gaddy Carrouth, 94, formerly of McLain Road, died Thursday, May 28, 1998 at the home of her daughter, Dot Glenn.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Lady's Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Icenhour officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park.

Mrs. Carrouth was retired from Cannon Mill. She was a member of Skyland Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Don Carrouth of Washington, D.C.; eight daughters, Dot Glenn, Sallie Russell, Marilyn Lynch, and Patricia Overcash, all of Kannapolis, Mildred Ferrell of Greenville, Iva Stortini of Rotterdam, N.Y., Virginia Carter of Rock Hill and Shirley Lawing of Myrtle Beach; 26 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at Lady's Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Skyland Baptist Church, 200 South Little Texas Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Hal Clark Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Hal Melvin Clark Sr., 82, of 1936 Lynwood Drive died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joe Peek and Grady Ghent officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Clark was a retired grocer salesman and a former employee of Lancaster County Vocational Rehabilitation. He was a member of Baron Masonic Lodge No. 261, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Hal Melvin Clark Jr. of Ocean Spring, Mich.; his daughter, Theresa C. Chandler of Lancaster; his brother, Claude L. "Deepie" Clark of Heath Springs; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Theodore Cox

ENFIELD, Conn. - Mr. Theodore C. Cox, 30, died Monday, May 25, 1998 in Enfield, Conn.

A prayer service was 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at a later date.

Mr. Cox owned and operated HRH Contractors, having been contracted by Enfield Dek Hockey Park for the past 8 months.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Cox; his stepson, Thomas F. Cliche; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cox of Rock Hill; two sisters, Lisa Parsons and Lori Smith; and two brothers, Timothy Cox and Todd Cox.
