Alma Dye

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Alma Anderson Dye, 94, of 126 Prospect Ave. died Thursday, May 28, 1998 at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

A native of York County, Mrs. Dye was the widow of Bill Dye. She retired in 1997 after working for Dr. and Mrs. Clyde Wells for 40 years.

At an early age, she joined Hopewell United Methodist Church in York. In 1922, she joined St. James AME Zion Church in Hickory Grove. In Spartanburg, she joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where she was a member of the adult church school class No. 1, the Pulpit Aid Society, Senior Missionary Society, Willing Workers, the Phyllis Goins Sympathy Club and the Friendly Sisters.

Surviving are her son, Otis Dye of Gastonia, N.C.; three daughters, Mary D. Swygert of Greensboro, N.C., Frances Dye of the home and Phenie D. Golatt of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Macie Anderson of New Haven, Conn., and Smiley Anderson of Spartanburg; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; and six step great-great-grandchildren.

J.W. Woodward Funeral Home, 594 Howard St., Spartanburg is in charge.

Wright Funeral Home in York is in charge of local arrangements.

Doris Ferguson

DORAVILLE, Ga. - Mrs. Doris C. Ferguson, 65, of Doraville died Saturday, May 23, 1998.

A graveside service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westview Cemetery, with the Rev. Ellynda Lipsey officiating.

Mrs. Ferguson attended Winthrop College and was retired from the Center for Disease Control, where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Larry Ferguson of Doraville; her mother, Isabell M. Conrad; and her sister, Helen Deas of Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Lowndes & McLane Funeral Home was in charge.

Vicky Howze

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Vicky Lynn Howze, 30, of 1065 Arch Drive died Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronal King officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Howze was a graduate of Rock Hill High School. She was a member Maranath Church of God in Christ.

Surviving are her son, Davario Jevoel Howze of the home; two daughters, Nikita M. Conner and Labrenta Howze, both of the home; her father, Paul Howze of Charlotte; two sisters, Terisa Hemphill of Charlotte and Gwendolyn Howze of Rock Hill; and her grandmother, Estelle Hemphill of Columbia.

The family will receive friends at the home. Viewing will be noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home.

Frances Mitchell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Frances Hope Mitchell, 76, of Mount Holly Road died Thursday, May 28, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Holly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Holt officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Mitchell was the former owner and operator of Pinetuck Pantry. She was a member of Mount Holly United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Club, and United Methodist Women. She was a former den mother for the Girl Scouts.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Lyle Mitchell; her son, Walter William "Bill" Mitchell of Georgetown; his sister, Elizabeth Reed of Sylva, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Holly United Methodist Church Family Life Center fund, 1996 Mount Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Lily Mobley

YORK - Mrs. Lily Bell Mobley, 71, of 412 California St. died Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Galilee Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. E. Garrison officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mobley was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are her husband, Silas "Top" Mobley Sr.; two daughters, Jessie M. Mobley of Charlotte and Rhoda M. Burris of the home; two sons, Silas Mobley Jr. of York and Eddie M. Mobley of the home; three stepdaughters, Mattie T. Sanders of Rock Hill, and Kathy M. Brown and Sarah Neely, both of York; her stepson, Samuel "David" Brown of York; 26 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home and at the home of her son, Silas Mobley, 13 Rosewood Lane, York.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Evelynn Stanton

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Evelynn Smith Stanton, 76, of 13001 Old Statesville Road died Thursday, May 28, 1998 at University Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. John Earl officiating.

Mrs. Stanton was a retired English teacher at Myers Park High School in Charlotte. She is the widow of M.E. Stanton Jr.

Surviving are two sons, Minot E. Stanton III of Greenville and Malcolm S. Stanton of Charlotte; her daughter, Martha S. Davis of Clover; and six grandchildren.

Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Annie Seigle

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Annie Mae Joseph Seigle of 194 Adnah Church Road died Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Eugene Goodwin officiating and the Revs. W.O. Thompson, Ronnie Baxter, Jeanette Leach and C.J. Jenkins assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Seigle was a member of Pineville AME Zion Church, where she was the Parent Body president, president of the Missionary Society and a member of the Deaconess Board No. 1, Stewardess Board No. 1, the Hymn Choir and the Aide Society. She also was a member of the Rose of Sharon Chapter No. 30 Order of Eastern Star and the Community Prayer Band.

Surviving are three daughters, Creola Walker of Englewood, N.J., and Martha Douglas and Dottie Burris, both of Rock Hill; her adopted daughter, Rosie Patterson of Rock Hill; four sisters, Mary Bailey of Lake Wylie and Eliza Thompson, Mattie Steele and Ular Bell Wade, all of Rock Hill; an adopted sister, Catherine Campbell of Chester; five brothers, Howard Hemphill of Charlotte and L.J. Joseph, Roddey Joseph Jr., Charles Joseph and Jessie Wise, all of Rock Hill; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Pineville AME Zion Church.

The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
