Ida Moore

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ida Hayes Caston Moore, 103, of 736 Ragin Lane died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating.

A native of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Moore was a retired practical nurse at the Florence County Crippled Children's Home and a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Hill. She was the widow of James Pinkney Caston and Hull Moore.

Surviving are her son, James P. Caston Jr. of Dallas; two daughters, Billie C. Barnette and Ruby H. Fanning, both of Rock Hill; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ruby Fanning, 736 Ragin Lane.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 215 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Ernest Truesdale

KERSHAW - Mr. Ernest Herbert Truesdale, 88, of 304 Whitley St. died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at home.

A graveside funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Camden, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating.

Mr. Truesdale was a Camden native. He was the former owner of Truesdale Plumbing and Electrical Service.

Surviving are his wife, Mollie Roberts Truesdale; his daughter, Katherine T. Tucker of Camden; his brother, Raymond C. Truesdale of Lancaster; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 304 Whitley St. in Kershaw. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Lyles Whitener Jr.

CLOVER - Mr. Lyles Whitener Jr., of 1190 Tom Joye Road died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at his home.

Burial was at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Whitener was assistant principal for 17 years at Clover Junior High school. He was a graduate of Allen University in Columbia. He earned his master's degree from Winthrop University.

He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a former Sunday school superintendent and past treasurer of the Brotherhood. He was an active member of the Sandy River Baptist Association.

He was a member of Wilson Lodge F&AM No. 303 and the United Men's Club of Clover. He served on the Clover Medical Facilities Commission and was a veteran of the Air Force.

Surviving are his wife, Amarintha W. Whitener; his son, Michael K. Wright of Rock Hill; his daughter, Millicent W. Dickey of Charlotte; his mother, Gertrude Whitener of Spartanburg; his brother, Harrison Whitener of Clinton; two sisters, Sarah DuBois of Spartanburg and Daisy McTavish of Junction City, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care Inc., 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to the American Red Cross, 200 Piedmont Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Lonnie Burris Sr.

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Mr. Lonnie Barron Burris Sr., 81, of 910 Randolph St., formerly of York, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Langrum Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Osbey Roddey officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Surviving are three sons, Henry Burris of Charlotte, Lonnie Burris Jr. and Albert Burris, both of York; four daughters, Mary McGinnis and Sally Burris, both of High Point, Louise McNeal and Ruby Lowry, both of York; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home and at other times at 101 Maiden Lane.

The body will placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Jessie Shelley

FORT MILL - Mrs. Jessie Sue Underwood Shelley, 85, of 102 Walker St. died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center of Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Parrish officiating.

Mrs. Shelley was the widow of Victor "Bud" Shelley and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Shelley was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her son, Harold Shelley of Fort Mill; two daughters, Libby Neely of Columbia, and Joe Ann Holliman of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 255 S. Highway 21 Bypass, Fort Mill, SC 29715 or to St. John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Vera Snipes

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Vera Maners Snipes, 90, of Rock Hill died Monday, June 1, 1998.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Revs. Peter Mason and Steve Hogg officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Snipes is the widow of Marvin Roger Snipes. They owned and operated Snipes Upholstery for many years. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Surviving are her son, M. Roger Snipes of Columbia; her daughter, Mardelle S. Nasshan of Rock Hill; her brother, Doc Maners of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, 215 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Nell Whetstine

YORK - Mrs. Nell McFalls Whetstine, 66, of 39 Cannon Court died Sunday, May 31, 1998.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Holiness Church in Clover, with the Rev. Roy Ivy officiating and the Rev. Robert Beaver assisting. Burial will be at Olivet Presbyterian Church in McConnells.

Mrs. Whetstine was the widow of Donald Audry Whetstine. She was a homemaker and member of Emmanuel Holiness Church in Clover.

Surviving are five sons, D. Steve Whetstine and Paul Whetstine, both of McConnells, Aaron Whetstine of York, Joseph Whetstine of Irmo, and Timothy Whetstine of Lubbock, Texas; three daughters, Evelyn W. Mitchell and Marcia Whetstine, both of York, and Lavine W. Burnette of McConnells; four brothers, Nathan McFalls and Jerry McFalls, both of Clover, Junior McFalls of Chester, and Richard McFalls of York; her sister, Mildred Teigue of McConnells; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Holiness Church youth camp, 2384 Lawrence Road, Clover, SC 29710.
