Samuel Phillips

CLOVER - Mr. Samuel Arthur "Tot" Phillips, 77, of 2062 Greenleaf Road died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

Mr. Phillips was a retired textile worker for Ti Caro in Gastonia, N.C.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Charles Bumgardner

CLOVER - Mr. Charles Eddleman Bumgardner, 61, of 1121 Brian St. died Friday, June 5, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia, N.C., with the Rev. Jerry Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City, N.C.

Born in Gaston County, Mr. Bumgardner was a retired supervisor from A&E Inc. of Mount Holly, an U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Clover.

Surviving are his wife, Martha Falls Bumgardner; five sons, Jerry Bumgardner of Gastonia, Dale Bumgardner, Scott Bumgardner and Brian Bumgardner, all of Clover, and Todd Bumgardner of Stanley; his daughter, Deborah Atkinson of Gastonia; his brother, Kenneth Bumgardner of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three sisters, Ann Parker of Clover, Carolyn Holt of Gastonia and Joyce Pace of Harrisburg, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 today at Carothers Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Ruth Carpenter

SHELBY, N.C. - Mrs. Ruth Frances Hoyle Carpenter, 69, formerly of Carpenter's Grove Church Road, Belwood, N.C., died June 6, 1998, at Northwood Health Care.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Knob Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Kiser officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Rutherford County, N.C., Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker. She was a member of Knob Creek UMC.

She was the widow of Paul Carpenter.

Surviving are two sons, Dean Carpenter of Gastonia, N.C., and Paul Edwin "PeeWee" Carpenter of North Carolina; three daughters, Ellen Ashe of Shelby, N.C., Peggy Nolan of Florida and Ruth Hendrick of Ooltewah, Tenn.; three brothers, Robert Hoyle, Charles Hoyle and Lloyd Hoyle, all of Clover; her sister, Betty Jean Ramsey of Bowling Green; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston, N.C. is serving the family.

Delores Mullis

LANCASTER - Mrs. Delores Johnson Mullis, 60, of 2722 Pineview Drive died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Darlington, Mrs. Mullis was a retired manager for Skyline Ltd.

She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and the Jackson Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, David Lionel Mullis Jr.; her daughter, Susan Clemmer of Lancaster; her mother, Minnie Lemons Johnson of Lancaster; two brothers, Johnny T. Johnson of Columbia and Mike V. Johnson of Lancaster; her sister, Nellie Smith of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

CHESTER - Mr. Otis L. Harding, 63, of 538 Christopher Lane died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Wright's Home for Funerals.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Harding was a retired truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Dove Harding; three sons, Michael A. Harding, Wayne Pierce and Mike Martin, all of Chester; his daughter, Karen Young of Chester; three brothers, James A. Harding of Hartsville, Elmer E. Harding Jr. of Fort Lawn and David C. Harding of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Maude Robinson of Lancaster and Leslie J. Dabney of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

Thomas Holt

FORT LAWN - Mr. Thomas "Bud" Holt, 86, of 1346 Fincher Road died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at El Bethel Methodist Church with Rev. Pam Ledbetter. Burial will be in El Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Eleersy, Md., Mr. Holt was a member of El Bethel Methodist Church and was a retired coal miner.

Surviving are his wife, Virgie Kiddy Holt; three sons, Thomas Arthur Holt of Kershaw, Robert Holt and Ronald Holt, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Barbara Ann Ochoa of Central and Janice Louise Shrader of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Arthur Holt and Roy Holt, both of Somerset, Pa.; his sister, Olive Darrah of Meyersdale, Pa.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to the El Bethel Methodist Church Love Fund, 3462 Catawba River Road, Fort Lawn, SC 29714.
