James Robinson

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Lewis Robinson, 70, of 803 Stonewall Court died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at home.

The memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Greene Funeral Home, with Steve Whitesell officiating. Burial will be private.

Mr. Robinson retired from the military with 21 years service. He served in the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force. He participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He also retired as engineering supervisor with the South Carolina Department of Highways and Transportation with 22 years service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2886 and Masonic Lodge No. 111.

Surviving are his wife, Marian Townsend Robinson; two sons, Paul Lewis Robinson of Monroe, N.C., and Baxter A. Robinson of Florence; his daughter, Noreen R. Simms of the home; four brothers, Jerry Robinson, Gene Robinson, Richard Robinson, Ronnie Robinson, all of South Carolina; six grandchildren and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at Greene Funeral Home after the memorial service and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Ray Readett Jr.

YORK - Mr. Ray Fielding Readett Jr., 71, 7 S. Pacific Ave., Apartment 6-F, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Tanglewood Health Care Center in Ridgeway.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Stanford officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Readett was a World War II veteran, and served on the Destroyer Miles C. Fox in the South Pacific.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Henry Readett; two sons, William D. Readett of Clover and Thomas F. Readett of Pickens; his sister, Jesse Ruth Warner of Greer; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at M.L. Sons and Funeral Home in Clover.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 117 S. Main St., Clover, SC 29710.

Etheleene Willcox

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Etheleene Scarborough Willcox, 89, of Columbia, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, with the Revs. Joseph McCutchen and James Young officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington.

Mrs. Willcox worked for the Veterans Administration and the Internal Revenue Service in Columbia. She was named IRS employee of the year in 1989, and was the widow of James Carter Willcox.

Surviving are her son, Thomas Law Willcox of Seabrook Island; her daughter, Kathryn Willcox Patterson of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and James Patterson, 14226 Sledge Road, Charlotte, NC 28278.

Alvin Bailey

FORT MILL - Mr. Alvin Bailey, 68, of 204 Williamson St. died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Westside Cemetery in Lancaster, with the Rev. David Kemp officiating.

Mr. Bailey was retired from Springs Industries, with more than 40 years of service as a spinning mechanic.

Surviving is his wife, Alice Varnadore Bailey; his son, Perry Bailey of Fort Mill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to the Fort Mill Church of God, 221 Academy St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Nancy Britt

GARDEN CITY - Mrs. Nancy M Britt, 54, of Garden City, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Malvern Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Britt was retired from civil service and was the owner of Britt Business Service. She was a member of the National Society of Public Accountants, the American Society of Military Comptrollers and the National Association of Female Executives. She was the widow of Wayne Isaac Britt.

Surviving are her son, William Joseph Hagins Jr. of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Amanda Marie Pennington of Rock Hill and Sandra Renee Clifford of Surfside; her mother, Nelle Pace Moseley of Rock Hill; two brothers, William Pace Moseley of Rock Hill and Robert Capers Moseley of North Augusta; her sister, Suzie Moseley Cantrell of Camden and Myrtle Beach; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 411, Camden, SC 29020.

Charleston Cherry

RICHBURG - Mr. Charleston T. "Dude" Cherry, 67, of 4019 Wylie Mill Road died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon AME Zion Church, with the Rev. J.E. Johnson officiating and the Rev. Arthur Randolph assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Cherry was a Chester County native, attended public schools in Chester County and was a member of Mount Vernon AME Zion Church. He retired from Carolina Rebar Steel Co. and was the widower of Bertha Irene Robinson Cherry.

Surviving are six sons, Robert Robinson and Michael Cherry, both of Rock Hill, Jimmy Cherry of Norfolk, Va., Kenneth Cherry of Fort Lawn, Derrick Cherry of Germany, and Stephen Robinson of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Viola Robinson of Fort Lawn and Patricia Lewis of Charlotte; his parents, Robert and Emma C. Barber of Richburg; his brother, J.C. Cherry of Edgemoor; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence. The body may be viewed from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at King's Funeral Home and will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Loma Kate Glenn

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Loma Kate Young Glenn of 1330 India Hook Road died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Westminster Towers Health Center.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. W. Timothy McClendon officiating.

A native of Camden, Mrs. Glenn was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Winthrop College.

Mrs. Glenn was a retired school teacher and librarian. She taught at Concord city schools in Concord, N.C., and at Northside Elementary School in Rock Hill. She was librarian at Belleview and Oakdale Elementary schools in Rock Hill.

Surviving are her son, Robert H. Glenn Jr. of Rock Hill; her daughter, Victoria G. Gallman of Lake Wylie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at Westminster Towers Community Room.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church building fund or library fund, P.O. Box 149, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
