John Carter Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. John Wesley Carter Sr., 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cauthen Funeral Home of Lancaster.

Minnie Froneberger

YORK - Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Froneberger, 77, of 108 Miller St. died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Renaissance Health and Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home.

Junely Childers

YORK - Mr. Junely Childers, 65, of 4510 Rinaldo Road died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at York Funeral Home, with the Rev. John P. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Childers was employed in construction installation for 22 years and worked at Cannon Mills Plant No. 3 for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Jeannette Latham Childers; his son, Bobby Junior Childers of York; his daughter, Diane C. Coggins of Leslie; his parents, William and Myrtle Childers of Hickory Grove; six brothers, Frank Childers, Leon Childers, Billy Childers, Larry Childers, Jackie Childers, and Danny Childers, all of York; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church building fund, 2300 Irene Bridge Road, Hickory Grove, SC 28717 or to the American Cancer Society, 339 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Michael Jordan

FORT MILL - Mr. Michael Ray Jordan, 43, of 286 Little River Road died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Scruggs officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery.

Mr. Jordan was a native of York County and a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Jordan; four sons, Michael Ray Jordan II and Walter Glenn Jordan, both of Rock Hill, and William Davis and Trinity Jordan, both of Fort Mill; his daughter, Sabrina Davis of Fort Mill; his parents, David Glenn Sr. and Dora Lee Jordan of Fort Mill; his brother, David Glenn Jordan Jr.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Michael Jordan Funeral Fund c/o Wolfe Funeral Home, 314 Spratt St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Elmer Stewart

ROCK HILL - Mr. Elmer Leroy Stewart, 77, of 1911 Apt. 104 Springsteen Road died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barron Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn.

Mr. Stewart was a security guard at Piedmont Medical Center and attended the Shekinah Church and Faith Assembly Church.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Chandler Stewart; two daughters, Donna Patterson of Loris and Debra DeLoach of New Bern, N.C.; three stepsons, Roy Chandler of Waverly, N.Y., Kevin Chandler of Fort Mill and Timothy Chandler of Endicott, N.Y.; four stepdaughters, Donna Sorensen of Waverly, Connie Mann of Rock Hill, Karen Howland of Fort Mill and Kathy Welch of Bunell, Fla.; his brother, Paul C. Hooks of Johnson City, Tenn.; two step-sisters, Pauline Goodwin of Gastonia, N.C., and Ruth Crist of China Grove, N.C.; his granddaughter; 14 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Robert Wilson

CATAWBA - Mr. Robert Lee Wilson, 42, of 4565 Clemmons Lane died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Greater Joy Baptist Church, with the Revs. Billy Wilson and Sylvilla Massey-Feaster officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Wilson attended York County public schools. He was an auto mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Janice M. Wilson; his son, Christopher Lamont Wilson of Rock Hill; three daughters, Janet Latoya Wilson, Alicia Renee Wilson and Marquita Ellison, all of Rock Hill; five brothers, Van D. Wilson Jr. of Forest Hills, Md., John W. Wilson of Charlotte, Willie Wilson and Ernest Wilson, both of Rock Hill and Johnny Kendrick of McCormick; and four sisters, Mary Smith, Dorothy Wilson, Wanda Gayton and Nancy Page, all of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Parker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Nancy Page, 728 Jefferson, Ave., Rock Hill.

Samuel Blake

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Blake of 952 Pebble Road died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Ralph Washington officiating and the Revs. Daran Mitchell, John McCoy, Thomas Barber and John Brown assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Blake was a member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church. He was a 1961 graduate of Emmett Scott High School. He earned two bachelor of science degrees from Central Texas College and from Fayetteville Technical Institute.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1989 after serving 22 years with the 82nd Aviation Brigade Jump Masters. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and several air medals. He was employed with the South Carolina Catawba Work Release Program for nine years. He was a former member of Boy Scout Troop 106.

Surviving are his wife, Robin H. Blake; his son, Samuel Boyd of Rochester, N.Y.; his daughter, Tameka Blake of Rock Hill; his stepson, Marquis Hilton of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Fredrena Campbell and Jenea Hilton, both of Rock Hill; two brothers, Jeff B. Blake Jr. and Charlie S. Blake, both of Rock Hill; three sisters, Sophie S. Hope, Tora B. White and Tinnie Moore, all of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

John Carter Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. John Wesley Carter Sr., 83, of 1302 Yancy St. died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lacy Jones officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Carter was retired from Springs Industries and was past master of the Hart Masonic Lodge No. 380. He was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 257.

Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Mae Brown Carter; two sons, John Wesley Carter Jr. of Bellaplaine, Iowa, and David Harold Carter Sr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Phyllis Ann Gardner of Lancaster and Wanda Sue Parnell of Augusta, Ga.; three brothers, Jack Carter of Gold Hill, N.C., Morris Carter of Kannapolis, N.C., and Frank Carter of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Ruth Crosswy of Tampa, Fla., and Lynn Sloan of McLean, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, P.O. Box, Mauldin, SC 29662.
