Janet Hawkins

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Janet W. Hawkins, 66, of 1620 Firetower Road died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael C. Walker officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Hawkins was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" Hawkins; her daughter, Sandra H. O'Brien of Rock Hill; two brothers, G. Jones Whisonant and Ervin J. Whisonant, both of Rock Hill; and three sisters, Dollie W. Mangrum, Mary W. Ward and Frances W. Branham, all of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Frances and J.T. Branham, 1586 Firetower Road.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 235 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Irene Heemsoth

FORT MILL - Mrs. Irene Potts Heemsoth, 79, of 209 Meacham St. died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Heemsoth was a homemaker and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, the Fort Mill Senior Citizens Group and the Woman's Club of Fort Mill. She was the widow of Burdette Evans Heemsoth Jr.

Surviving are her son, Chip Heemsoth of Fort Mill; two daughters Lynn Moore of Tallahasee, Fla., and Helen Reynolds of Fort Mill; two sisters, Helen Howard of Charlotte and Mrs. L.A. Graham Jr. of Fort Mill; her half-sister, Dora P. Townsend of California; seven grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at St. John's United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of her son, Chip Heemsoth, 210 Marshall St., Fort Mill.

Memorials may be made to the St. John's United Methodist Church building fund, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2535, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

Mattie Bennett

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mattie J. Bennett, 88, of 261 S. Herlong Ave. died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Beverly Health Care.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Holley officiating.

A native of Chesterfield, Mrs. Bennett was a retiree of Highland Park Mills. She was a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church and one of the 14 original Woman's Missionary Union members. She was the widow of Arthur Y. Bennett.

Surviving are her son, William F. James of Gates County, N.C.; her granddaughter, who was her caregiver, Alice Pittman; her great-grandchild; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Alice Pittman, 4943 Mount Gallant Road.

Tereatha McCoy

SHARON - Miss Tereatha McCoy, 46, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Elmer Stewart

ROCK HILL - Mr. Elmer Leroy Stewart, 77, of 1911 Apt. 104 Springsteen Road died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn.

Mr. Stewart was a security guard at Piedmont Medical Center and attended the Shekinah Church and Faith Assembly Church.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Chandler Stewart; two daughters, Donna Patterson of Loris and Debra DeLoach of New Bern, N.C.; three stepsons, Roy Chandler of Waverly, N.Y., Kevin Chandler of Fort Mill and Timothy Chandler of Endicott, N.Y.; four stepdaughters, Donna Sorensen of Waverly, Connie Mann of Rock Hill, Karen Howland of Fort Mill and Kathy Welch of Bunell, Fla.; his brother, Paul C. Hooks of Johnson City, Tenn.; two step-sisters, Pauline Goodwin of Gastonia, N.C., and Ruth Crist of China Grove, N.C.; his granddaughter; 14 stepgrandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Herbert Shealy

CHESTER - Mr. Herbert A. Shealy, 81, of 696 Great Falls Road died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chip Sneed officiating. Burial will be at Purity Cemetery.

Mr. Shealy was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Shealy; his daughter, Kathy Ruppe of Cosby, Tenn.; and his grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Great Falls Road, Chester, SC 29706.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Reola Walker

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Reola Williams Walker, 71, 668 Stonewall Court died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Walker was a member of Park Baptist Church, where she served as director of the Women's Missionary Union and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was retired from Hoescht Celanese Corp., where she worked in the beaming department.

Surviving are her husband, Edward R. Walker; two daughters, Teresa Cook of Charleston, W. Va., and Catherine Cranford of Columbia; two sisters, Mildred W. Bart and Helen Thomas, both of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
