Virginia Leather

FORT MILL - Mrs. Virginia Sue Leather, 54, of 1524 Waterford Place died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Surviving are her husband, Brendan Leather; her daughter, Michelle Parsons of Denver; her parents, Virgil and Jessie Darnall Stamps of Brownsville, Texas; four brothers, Charles Stamps, Henry Stamps, Jerry Stamps and Richard Stamps, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and her sister, Linda Shelly of Colorado Springs.

Linda Scarborough

LANCASTER - Mrs. Linda Sue Scarborough, 48, of 1645 Home Circle died Monday, June 8, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Riddle officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Surviving are her husband, Russell Scarborough; two sons, Bobby Carter and Eric Carter, both of Lilburn, Ga.; two daughters, Patricia Self and Penny Hegler, both of Lancaster; her mother, Emma Spivey of Macon, Ga.; four brothers, Gene Spivey, Joe Spivey, Rickey Spivey and Jack Spivey, all of Macon, Ga.; three sisters, Johnnie Ruth Young of Aiken; Patricia Wells of Eatonton, Ga., and Diane Young of Locust Grove, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Estie Shelton

ALEXIS, N.C. - Mrs. Estie Shipman Shelton, 93, of 1770 Oak Hollow Road, Gastonia, N.C., formerly of Alexis, died Sunday, June, 7, 1998, at Grayland Croft.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley, N.C., with the Revs. Ed Yount, Paul Shipman and Leroy Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Alexis Baptist Church.

A native of Henderson County, N.C., Mrs. Shelton was a homemaker and the widow of Robert Nelson Shelton. She was a member of Alexis Baptist Church.

Surviving are five sons, Harold Shelton of Rock Hill, Jack A. Shelton, Ray N. Shelton and the Rev. T. Leroy Shelton, all of Alexis, and William B. Shelton of Charlotte; three daughters, Marie Lineberger and Irene Ottinger, both of Alexis, and Doris Grindstaff of Robbinsville, N.C.; three brothers, Marvin Shipman of Tampa, Fla., Eugene Shipman of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the Rev. Paul Shipman of Elizabethtown, N.C.; two sisters, Ginny Pace of Tuxedo, N.C., and Evie Maybin of Zerconia, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley and at other times at the home of Jack A. Shelton.

Memorials may be made to the Alexis Baptist Church choir robe fund, Alexis Baptist Church, Alexis-High Shoals Road, Alexis, N.C. 28006.

Annie Thomas

GASTONIA, N.C. - Miss Annie Bell McCollum Thomas, 81, of 5043 Crawford Road died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Hill AME Zion Church at Lake Wylie, with the Rev. Terrence Jones officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Miss McCollum was a lifelong member of Liberty Hill AME Zion Church, where she was a member of the trustees, the Deaconess Board, the Stewardess Board, the Booster Club, a life member of WH&OSM, Church Aid Society, a member and vice president of the Hymn Choir and a former usher. She was a native of York County.

Surviving are two foster sons, James Wylie Thomas of Clover and Fredrick Woody of Gastonia; three foster daughters, Rose Lipsomb of the home, Margaret Ann McDowell of Gastonia and Diane Gilliard of Shelby; four brothers, Robert Lee Thomas, James Albert Thomas, John Roosevelt Thomas and Willie Thomas, all of Gastonia; two sisters, Jessie T. Thomasson of Clover and Elizabeth Stowe of Gastonia; 12 foster grandchildren and six foster great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Costner Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Margaret McDowell, 539 Queens Road, Gastonia.

Eddie Dye

LANCASTER - Mr. Eddie F. "Jack" Dye, 69, of 405 S. French St. died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Rossville AME Zion Church in Great Falls, with the Rev. Anthony Commodore officiating and the Rev. James Dye assisting. The Rev. Rolly Dawkins will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Dye was a member of Rossville AME Zion Church, where he was a choir member, former trustee, and parking attendant. He attended Chester County public schools.

Surviving are two daughters, Annie B. Mack of Lancaster and Linda C. Dye of Great Falls; his brother, David Howze Jr. of Pendleton; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at King's Funeral Home in Great Falls.

The body will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Lamar Bowens

ROCK HILL - The Rev. Lamar F. Bowens of White Oak Manor died Monday, June 8, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Jesse Bolt

INDEPENDENCE, Va. - Mr. Jesse Willard Bolt, 67, of Independence died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery.

Surviving are three sons, James Richard Bolt of Mount Airy, N.C., Robert Stephen Bolt of Rock Hill, and Jesse Michael Bolt of Galax, Va.; his daughter, Susan Bolt Williams of Independence; his sister, Evelyn Osborne of Independence; his special friend, Wave Barnes of Rugby, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Abigail Boyer, 403 Churchview Lane, Fries, VA 24330.
