W.C. Marshall

LANCASTER - Mr. Whitfield Cook Marshall, 68, of 512 Hilltop Lane died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Carlos Gardner and Eddie Usher officiating. Burial will be with military honors at the church cemetery.

A native of Heath Springs, Mr. Marshall was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Clemson College and received a master's degree from the University of Virginia. He did post graduate work at the University of South Carolina, Duke University and Furman University. Mr. Marshall taught in Conway, Flat Creek, Union and Lancaster schools and had served as principal in Lewisville and St. Stephens. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in Korea and later obtained the rank of major. He retired from the U.S. Army National Guard, Headquarters 151st Artillery Group, as a lieutenant colonel.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Harper Marshall; his son, Eric Cook Marshall of Lancaster; two daughters, Tammy Quarles of Columbia and Rhonda Zboch of Charlotte; two brothers, Albert Hutson Marshall of Wilson, N.C., and Allen Sims Marshall of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church cemetery fund, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Donald Roach

RICHBURG - Mr. Donald Carrol Roach of 850 Old Mill Road died Friday June 12, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Saluda Street in Rock Hill, with Scott Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.

A native of Newport, Mr. Roach was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ward 2. He was a member of the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge 737. He operated Carbide Tool Manufacturer and was a former resident of Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Marie H. Roach; two stepsons, Gary J. Robinson of Charlotte and Anthony R. Johnson of Denver, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Walley of Charlotte and Julie Wallace of Burnsville, N.C.; three brothers, Jay Roach of Charlotte and Ray Roach of Tolland, Conn.; and Stanley Roach of Waxhaw, N.C.; four sisters, Thelma Crytser, Vermel Fry and Nadine Helms, all of Monroe, N.C., and Frances Howery of Indian Trail, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church and at other times at the home, 850 Old Mill Road, Richburg.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Dwight Sprang

ROCK HILL - Mr. Dwight C. Sprang, 82, of 325 College Ave. died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Westminster Towers.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. today at the West Main Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial will be private.

Mr. Sprang was a member of West Main Church of the Nazarene. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing pool at the senior center, fixing things for others and delivering lunches to senior citizens.

Surviving are his wife, Martha MacDonald of the home; two sons, Harold Sprang of Bradenton, Fla., and David Sprang of Rock Hill; two brothers, Lester Sprang of Fort Mill and and Mil Sprang of Lakeland, Fla.; and two sisters, Naomi Ray of Niceville, Fla., and Ada Grace Maxwell of Fairfield, Ohio.

The family will receive friends at the church after the memorial service and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the West Main Church of the Nazarene, 832 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Ronnie Vanderford

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Ronnie Eugene Vanderford, 37, of 109 Locust St. died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with Chaplain Miriam Mick officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A native of Fairfield County, Mr. Vanderford was employed with Springs Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Chrystal Terry Vanderford; two sons, Jonathan Vanderford and Bradley Vanderford, both of the home; his daughter, Ashley Vanderford of Charleston; his mother, Helen Deaton Vanderford of Winnsboro; his brother, Laney Vanderford of Winnsboro; his sister, Teresa Bradshaw of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and his maternal grandparents, John and Fannie Deaton of Spartanburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Josephine Walton

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Josephine Steele Walton of 1263 Stanley Drive died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles J. Mason officiating and Pastor Carwell Culp, the Revs. Jimmy Alexander and Melvin Douglas assisting.

Mrs. Walton was a native of York County. She was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church and a former member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Boonton, N.J., where she was on the senior usher board, sung in the choir and was a member of the missionary society.

Surviving are her brother, Jerry Ware of Rock Hill; and three sisters, Isabel White of Fort Mill, Elvenia Bratton of Ontario, Calif., and Mildred Steele of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends at the home of Warren and Isabel White, 1399 Banks St., Fort Mill.

The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

James Wilmore

CHESTER - Mr. James Cleveland "J.C." Wilmore, 71, of 159 Loomis St. died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. E. Page officiating and the Revs. L.L. Robertson and Sandra Sistare, and Evangelist Gloria Grier assisting. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Wilmore was a retired brick mason with Jackson Masonry Construction Co. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, vice chairman of the Trustee Board, president and leader of the Third Hymnal Choir and advisor to the Usher Board.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Cephas Masonic Lodge 320. He was the vice president of the AP&B Society No. 19. He attended Finley High School.

Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Feaster Wilmore; 10 sons, James C. Wilmore Jr. of Rock Hill, Ralph Wilmore, Ronald Wilmore, Terry Wilmore, Wendell Wilmore, Willie C. Daniel and Quinton H. Feaster, all of Chester, Allen Ray Wilmore of Pelzer, William R. Wilmore and Clarence D. Wilmore, both of San Diego; six daughters, Mary A. Caldwell of Chester, Bertha W. Booker of Landover, Md., Carolyn Wilmore of Atlanta, Karon McCleave of Fort Mill, Barbara Feaster and Linda Simpson, both of Chester; his brother, Earnest Wilmore of Chester, two sisters, Geneva McDonald of Albany, N.Y., and Mary Good of Rock Hill; his granddaughter, Shawn Wilmore of Chester, whom he reared; 35 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren

His family is receiving friends at 159 Loomis Street in Chester. The body will lie in state at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Everett Auten

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Everett Myers Auten, 80, of Charlotte died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dilworth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Pruitt officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.

A native of Charlotte, Mr. Auten was the retired owner and operator of Midget Super Markets. He was a member of Dilworth Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Airbourne 511. He was the widower of Sarah B. Auten, his wife of 40 years.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Janell B. Auten; his son, Frank E. Auten of Lake Wylie; his daughter, Kay A. McGarity of Charlotte; his brother, Frank C. Auten of Los Fresno, Texas; his sister, Sara Jane Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Dilworth Baptist Church, 825 McDonald Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203.

The body will lie in state at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
