Zackery Lilly

YORK - Zackery Woodrow Lilly, the infant son of Bert and Mary Lilly of 7010 Campbell Road, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Forest Hills Cemetery, with Father Joesph Wahl officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are four grandparents, James F. and Juanita Williams of Rock Hill, and Hubert and Margaret Lilly of Rock Hill; two great-grandmothers, Esther Lilly of Rock Hill and Jane Moore of Maryland and a great-grandfather, Richard Bernhardt of Racine, Wis.

The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, 339 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Jesse Owens

KERSHAW - Mr. Jesse Curtis Owens, 90, of 3501 Old Georgetown Road died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Young and Mendel Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Owens was a native of Westville. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kathleen Barriett Owens; a son, the Rev. Bobby Owens of Kershaw; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jerry and Deborah Anderson of 3489 Old Georgetown Road in Kershaw.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, is in charge.

Willie Pearson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie A. Pearson, 51, of 417 Bakers St. Extension died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at the home of Estelle Robinson, 700 Ogden St.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Joseph Rufo

PAGELAND - Mr. Joseph Anthony Rufo, 46, of 314 W. Evans St., died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Lancaster Church of God, with the Rev. Lacy Jones officiating. Burial will be at the Kershaw City Cemetery.

A New York native, Mr. Rufo was a retired motorcycle mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine Blackmon Rufo; three sons, Tony Rufo of Pageland, Jody Rufo of Lake Wylie and Joseph A. Rufo Jr. of Rock Hill; his mother, Geraldine Hartley Rufo of Lancaster and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of Geraldine Rufo, 2174 Dover Lane in Lancaster.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Sarah Scott

RICHBURG - Mrs. Sarah Louise Campbell Scott, 71, of 7140 Lyle Road died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Heath Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Evans and the Rev. Jim Leppard officiating. Burial will follow at Lando Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott was born in Chester County. She was retired from Springs Industries and worked as a substitute teacher in the Chester County school district. She was a lifetime member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir. She was also the first baby christened at the church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Clyde Scott Sr.; her son, Robert Clyde Scott Jr. of Columbia; three daughters, Lynn Friedman of Orlando, Fla., Sue Walthall of Charlotte, and Barbara Partin of Lugoff; two brothers, John Newt Campbell and James Earl Campbell of Richburg; her sister, Marybelle Campbell of Richburg; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at the Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

Memorials may be made to Heath Memorial United Methodist Church, 3781 Lando Road, Lando, S.C. 29724, or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.

Tasca Bowers

HEATH SPRINGS - Mr. Tasca W. "Tadie" Bowers, 79, of 1491 Flint Ridge Road died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 5 p.m. today at Flint Ridge Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Neal officiating.

Mr. Bowers was a cloth room supervisor for Springs Industries and a member of Flint Ridge Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Bruce Gaskin and Avanel Williams, both of Heath Springs, Wilma Hilton of Kershaw and Marcia Woolbright of Greenwood.

The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Flint Ridge Baptist Church, 1850 Flint Ridge Road, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Betty Byrum

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Betty Towery Byrum, 61, of 1232 Golf Course Drive died Wednesday, June, 17, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Gaston Memorial Park, with the Rev. Carroll Henderson officiating.

Mrs. Byrum was employed at Wix Filters Dixon Plant. She was the widow of William "Gene" Byrum.

Surviving are two sons, Bill Byrum of Denver and Greg Byrum of Gastonia; her mother, Myrtle Lynn Towery of Gastonia; two grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Service, Southside Chapel, and at other times at the home of Myrtle Towery, 1510 Westview St., Gastonia.

Memorials may be made to Laurel Wood Baptist Church building fund, 124 Gamble Loop Road, Bessemer City, NC 28016.

Betty Gibson

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Betty Funderburk Gibson, 74, of Lexington died Wednesday, June 17, 1998.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter, with the Rev. James Eichner officiating.

Mrs. Gibson was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. A native of Lancaster County, she was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught in the Sumter School District No. 17 for 23 years. She was a former member of the Sumter Junior Welfare League and the Sumter Cotillion Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Reesa Gibson McCrorey of Rock Hill and Gay Gibson Clark of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, P.O. Box 338, Sumter, SC 29151-0338; or to the American Lung Association of South Carolina, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements, and Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home is in charge of out-of-town arrangements.
