Harold D. Plyler

LANCASTER - Mr. Harold D. Plyler, 77, of 405 N. Wylie St., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with Dr. Needham R. Williamson officiating.

Mr. Plyler was a graduate of Furman University and a retired schoolteacher. He had worked with the Head Start program.

Surviving are his wife, Inez B. Plyler; two sons, Joseph W. Plyler of Charlotte and John William Plyler of Lancaster; and his sister, Ruth Scott of Columbus, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or to the Charlotte Nature Museum, Administration Office, 301 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28202.

Peggy Swindell

LANCASTER - Mrs. Peggy Baker Swindell, 64, of 1247 Elmwood Ave. died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joel Rhyner, Herman Bradley and Doug Irvin officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Swindell was born in Great Falls. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, John "Larry" Swindell Sr. of the home; her son, Zeddie Hammond of the home; four daughters, Peggy Swindell, Glenda Sistare, Sharon Cooper, and Helen Morales, all of Lancaster; her stepson, John Swindell Jr. of Lancaster; two stepdaughters, Penny Williams and Barbara Lynn Bartley, both of Greensboro, N.C.; five sisters, Thelma Ray Bradley of York, Ailene Baker of Fort Mill, Esther Stutts of Rock Hill, Carolyn Swett of Florida, and Rozella Rimes of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 1180 Garnette Road, Lancaster, S.C., 29720.

Myrtle Spurling

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Myrtle Pritchard Spurling, 80, formerly of Fallston, N.C., died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at Wilora Lake Health Care in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fallston Baptist Church, with the Revs. Lee Proctor and Bruce Rabon officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston, N.C.

Mrs. Spurling was a homemaker and a member of Fallston Baptist Church. She was the widow of W.B. Spurling, Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Edwards of Rock Hill and Karen Steele of Mint Hill, N.C.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston, N.C.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Family Relief Program, 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 140, Rockville, MD 20850.

Stamey Funeral Home in Fallsont, N.C., is in charge.

Edward Gregory Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Edward Hampton Gregory Sr., 75, of 1375 Old Friendship Road died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Calvin Morrow officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Mr. Gregory was a Chester County native. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a retired self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Morris Gregory of the home; his son, Edward "Ed" H. Gregory Jr. of Rock Hill; two daughters, Barbara G. Jenkins of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sheila G. Passmore of Rock Hill; his brother, Collie Gregory of Rock Hill; three sisters, Fannie Stowe and Kathleen Brown, both of Rock Hill, and Bertha Minner of Eden, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Jessie Faye Glisson

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Jessie Faye Whitaker Glisson, 64, of Great Falls died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Lowman Home in White Rock.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marvin Kennant officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Glisson was born in Great Falls. She was a retired waitress and a member of Christian Assembly Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are her son, John Glisson of Opelika, Ala.; three daughters, Betty Hardwick of Clarksville, Tenn., Nancy Creel of Monroe, N.C., and Glenda Glisson of Opelika, Ala.; her mother, Gertrude Waters of Great Falls; her sister, Jewel Carter of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Steven Chase Edwards

LANCASTER - Mr. Steven Chase Edwards, 16, of 897 Community Lane died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Blackmon officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Edwards was born in Lancaster County. He was a sophomore at Lancaster High School and a member of New Covenant Praise in Aiken.

Surviving are his mother, Marilyn Edwards Mitchell of the home; two sisters, Melisa Steele and Paula Edwards, both of Lancaster; and his grandmother, Pauline Edwards of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Steven Scott Edwards

LANCASTER - Mr. Steven Scott Edwards, 22, of 897 Community Lane died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Blackmon officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Edwards was employed by U.S. Strapping Co. and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his mother, Lynn Plyler of Thompson, Ga.; his sister, Mary Gulludge of Lancaster; and his grandmother, Pauline Edwards of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.
