James Helms

FORT MILL - Mr. James Mack Helms, 65, of Fort Mill died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Independent Bible Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Jason Coley officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood City Cemetery.

A native of Union County, Mr. Helms was a retired trailer mechanic.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Helms of Fort Mill; three sons, Donnie Helms, Terry Helms and Jimmy Helms, all of Fort Mill; his mother, Ethel Smith of Charlotte; two brothers, Vern Helms of Charlotte and Neil Helms of Indian Trail, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Independent Bible Baptist Church, 17025 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC 28227.

McEwen Funeral Service's Pineville Chapel is in charge.

Rebecca Holland

KERSHAW - Mrs. Rebecca McPherson Holland, 83, of 420 N. Matson St. died Saturday, January 30, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kershaw City Cemetery, with the Rev. Eugene L. Feagin officiating.

A native of Florence, Mrs. Holland was retired from Springs Industries Customer Service Center and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kershaw.

Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Holland Bryson of Pemproke Pine, Fla., and Frances Holland Lucas of Kershaw; her brother, Robert McPherson of Hartsville; her sister, Jean McPherson Kilpatrick of Concord, N.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight at the home.

Ethel Mosley

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Ethel Wilds Mosley, 62, of 303 Hickory Hollow Road died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Trail Pentecostal Church, with the Revs. Albert and Sheila Revels officiating. Burial will be at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory Grove.

Mrs. Mosley worked in Rock Hill for several years.

Surviving are her husband, Fred A. Mosley; her son, John "Bob" Mosley of Spartanburg; four daughters, Brenda Ham, Sherry Rose, Cynthia Mosley and Patsy Peeler, all of Blacksburg; five brothers, Jess L. Wilds of Georgia, Roy Wilds of King, N.C.; Stokley Wilds of Leicester, N.C., Hardee Wilds of Marietta and Jerry Wilds of Pickens; three sisters, Violet Bennett of King, Nancy Riddle of Blacksburg and Elizabeth Roberts of Fletcher; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg, and at other times at the home.

James Odom Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James "Coon" Odom Jr. of 909 Ogden Road died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating and the Rev. Marie Alexander giving the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Odom was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his daughter, Starkles F. Strong of Baltimore; his stepson, Antonio Strong of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Yolanda Strong of Baltimore; his father, James Odom Sr. of Rock Hill; his mother, Mattie D. Odom of Rock Hill; his sister, Margaret O. Lowery of Rock Hill; two brothers, Willie E. Odom of Baltimore and Theodore Odom of Rock Hill; and his paternal grandmother, Nancy Odom of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Rosie Smith

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rosie L. Smith of 1768 Aaron Ave. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Rosa Smith

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Rosa Lee Smith of 1768 Aaron Ave. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.S. Sanders officiating and the Revs. Ronnie Baxter, George Lowry and John Crowley assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Living Beauty Temple No. 709 and College Downs Community Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Knox of Rock Hill and Daisy Smith Hyde of Kileen, Texas; two brothers, Robert Smith Sr. and Sammie Smith, both of Charlotte; two sisters, Estelle Thompson of Rock Hill and Mary Kennedy of Buffalo, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.

Verla Strong

CHESTER - Mrs. Verla Land Strong of 1562 Addie Drive died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Leeds. Burial will be at Gethsemane Baptist Church cemetery in Chester, with the Rev. Oliver Royal officiating.

Mrs. Strong was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She attended Chester County public schools and was the widow of the Rev. Hosea Strong.

Surviving are her daughter, Addie Neal of the home; and two grandsons, one of whom, Walker Jerome, is of the home.

The family will receive friends at home.

Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, is in charge.

Howard Youngblood

CLOVER - Mr. Howard Eugene "Gene" Youngblood, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rob Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

A native of Clover, Mr. Youngblood was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from American Thread Co. and was a longtime member of Clover ARP Church.

Surviving are four sons, Steve Youngblood of Wilmington, N.C., Timothy Youngblood, Billy Youngblood and Randy Youngblood, all of Clover; his daughter, Kathy Youngblood Burton of Lake Wylie; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.
