Willie Lumpkin Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie Lumpkin Sr. of 1074 Albert St. died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Revs. J.H. Bailey, Del Reiger and Billy Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Lumpkin was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his wife, Nettie Jones Lumpkin; two sons, Willie Lumpkin Jr. and Adam Jones, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Bonita Banks and Donna L. Lumpkin, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Viola Crawford Lumpkin of Rock Hill; four brothers, Palmer Lumpkin and James Lumpkin, both of Rock Hill, and Larry Lumpkin and John Lumpkin, both of Charlotte; five sisters, Corine Lumpkin of the home, Annie L. Lumpkin and Hattie L. Thompson, both of Rock Hill, and Rozena L. Crochen and Vernell Lumpkin, both of New Jersey; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Charlie McMullen

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charlie McMullen of 704 Grier St. died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pineville AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Eugene Goodman officiating and the Revs. Allen Stewart and Mary Crosby assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. McMullen was a member of Pineville AME Zion Church. He attended Chester County public schools and was employed at J.P. Stevens Co. for 30 years and at the Pix Theater for 25 years. He was the widower of Willie Mae Bailey McMullen.

Surviving are his son, Robert Lee McMullen of the home; his brother, Thomas McMullen of Knoxville, Tenn.; three sisters, Alberta M. Gist of Philadelphia, Sarah M. Means of Plainfield, N.J., and Leola M. Howze of Catawba; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at 830 Midville Ave., Rock Hill.

Claude Moore Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Claude Love Moore Sr., 87, of 1123 Evergreen Circle died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at his home.

A graveside service will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday at Neely's Creek ARP Church cemetery. A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William Pender officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Moore was a World War II veteran. He was a retired cotton representative in Gastonia, N.C., and the surrounding area for 30 years. He was a member of the Rock Hill Rotary Club and the Rock Hill Elks Lodge. He was the only surviving great-grandson of Alexander Templeton Black, the founding father of Rock Hill.

Surviving are two sons, Claude L. Moore Jr. and Leslie W. Moore, both of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Hospice Community Care or the Rock Hill Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Nicholson

PINEVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Ollie Baker Nicholson, 89, of 703 Hill St. died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Jack Norris officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

A native of Kershaw County, Mrs. Nicholson was retired from Cone Mills. She was the widow of Thomas Nicholson and a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Chauncey Nicholson of Fort Mill; four daughters, Nell Norris and Terry Inman, both of Pineville, N.C., Becky McCarver of Fort Mill, and Violet Moore of Indian Land; her brother, Tommy Coates of Kershaw; two sisters, Dora Cauthen of Rockingham, N.C., and Eva Coates of Kershaw; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

William Petty

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Abernethy Petty, 54, of 2017 Eakle Drive died Monday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Hogg and Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

A native of York, Mr. Petty was a mechanical engineer for Star Paper Tube and a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Asbury Petty; two sons, Rodney Petty of York and Chris Petty of Charlotte; his daughter, Tammy Garrett of Pulaski, Va.; his mother, Ruth Petty of Sullivans Island; his brother, James Petty of York; his sister, Rita P. Langley of Sullivans Island; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Duke Medical Center Cancer Research, Erwin Road, Durham, NC 27710.

Robert Reeder

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert Reeder of 626 Center St. died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

William Sandifer

YORK - Mr. William Winfred Sandifer, 66, of 2161 Chester Highway died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. J. Lee Phillips Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Sandifer was a landscaper. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Mary Ellen Harris Sandifer.

Surviving are three daughters, Pamela S. Chapman and Sarah S. Estes, both of York, and Cindy S. Francis of Earl, N.C.; two brothers, Jack Sandifer and T.S. Sandifer Jr., both of York; his sister, Jeannette S. Pursley of Clover; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery Association or building fund, 2343 S. Highway 321, York, SC 29745.
