Mary Bedwell

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Lois Rodgers Bedwell, 62, of 772 Patriot Parkway, Apt. 104, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, with the Revs. Tony Crouch and Henry Adams officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bedwell was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, John Bedwell Jr.; five sons, Robert Bedwell and John D. Bedwell, both of Lancaster, Dale Bedwell of Greenville, Steve Bedwell of Laurens and Gregory Bedwell of Rock Hill; three daughters, Marsha Mabry of Lancaster, Kathy Bedwell of Rock Hill and Carolyn Springs of Greenville; two brothers, Odell Rodgers and Cecil Chandler Rodgers, both of Sumter; six grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Marsha Mabry, 501 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster.

Billy Cothran

ROCK HILL - Mr. Billy Carrol Cothran, 70, of 1493 Hathaway Drive died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cothran was retired from Bowater as a shipping supervisor and was secretary of the York County Fair Association. A Navy veteran, Mr. Cothran was a member of the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34 and a member of Voyager 1052 of the Forty and Eight.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Cooper Cothran; his son, Richard Cothran of York; his sister, Ruth Harkins of Canton, N.C.; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Catawba Baptist Church building fund, 2639 Catawba Church Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Margie Davis

ORANGEBURG - Mrs. Margie Ann Yancey Davis, 59, of 751 Patriots Way died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, in Clover.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Double Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John T. Hucks officiating.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Northside Baptist Church and the widow of Bobby Davis.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth Wayne Davis of Orangeburg; two daughters, Missy Walter of St. George and Deedee Deal of Clover; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Orangeburg Unit, P.O. Box K, Aiken, SC 29802.

Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg is in charge.

Eunice Hawkins

NEWBERRY - Mrs. Eunice Harman Hawkins, 81, of 2006 Springfield Circle died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, with the Rev. Richard Albert officiating. Burial will be at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

A native of Prosperity, Mrs. Hawkins was an active member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and a member of the George B. Cromer Sunday school class, the WELCA, where she was made an honorary member, and the Over 50 group. She was a former president of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the Marion Davis Mothers Club. She also was on the executive committee of the Newberry Council of Garden Clubs and was a member of the Newberry College Women's League.

Surviving are her husband, B.F. "Jack" Hawkins; her son, Bernard Hawkins of Chapin; two daughters, Gloria Cleo Shealy of Walhalla and Anna Hope of Rock Hill; and her sister, Floy H. Bowers of Columbia.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Willie Lumpkin Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie Lumpkin Sr. of 1074 Albert St. died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Revs. J.H. Bailey, Del Reiger and Billy Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Lumpkin was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. He attended Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his wife, Nettie Jones Lumpkin; two sons, Willie Lumpkin Jr. and Adam Jones, both of Rock Hill; two daughters, Bonita Banks and Donna L. Lumpkin, both of Rock Hill; his mother, Viola Crawford Lumpkin of Rock Hill; four brothers, Palmer Lumpkin, James Lumpkin, and Larry Lumpkin, all of Rock Hill, and John Lumpkin of Charlotte; five sisters, Corine Lumpkin, Annie L. Lee and Hattie L. Thompson, all of Rock Hill, and Rozena L. Crochen and Vernell Lumpkin, both of New Jersey; his special friend, Beverly Boulware of Rock Hill; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

James Odom Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. James "Coon" Odom Jr. of 909 Ogden Road died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating and the Rev. Marie Alexander giving the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Odom was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School.

Surviving are his daughter, Starkles F. Strong of Baltimore; his stepson, Antonio Strong of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Yolanda Strong of Baltimore; his father, James Odom Sr. of Rock Hill; his mother, Mattie D. Odom of Rock Hill; his sister, Margaret O. Lowery of Rock Hill; two brothers, Willie E. Odom of Baltimore and Theodore Odom of Rock Hill; and his paternal grandmother, Nancy Odom of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Ralph Ray

LANCASTER - Mr. Ralph Alexander "Toby" Ray, 67, of 763 Dixie School Road died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at home.

The funeral Mass will be 4 p.m. Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A native of Kershaw County, Mr. Ray served 20 years in the Navy and retired from Lehigh Steel - Thomas & Betts Steel Fabrication where he worked for 27 years. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie Fratnik Ray; two daughters, Linda Kay Ray of the home and Sharan A. Ray of Lancaster; and his grandchild.

The vigil service will be 6:30 tonight and the family will receive friends afterward from 7 to 9 at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Catherine Catholic Church building fund, 720 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or to HomeCare Hospice of Lancaster, 800 W. Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.
