Mary Ridge

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Lucille Ridge, 84, of 221 Forest Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Mercy Hospital South in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Unity Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Harmon officiating.

Mrs. Ridge was a homemaker.

Surviving are three sons, Charles L. Ridge of Cibolo, Texas, Terry L. Ridge of Fort Mill and Larry S. Ridge of Charlotte; two daughters, Linda Barnhardt and Barbara Owens, both of Fort Mill; her brother, David Leonard of High Point, N.C.; two sisters, Martha Kennedy of Jamestown, N.C., and Avis Andrews of Cincinnati; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home.

Kathleen Wallace

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Kathleen Wallace of 346 Barnes St. died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

John Wilkes

ROCK HILL - The Rev. John Wesley Wilkes, 56, of 2981 Southeastern Road died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at West Main Church of God, with the Revs. Michael Wooten and David Kemp officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Matthews Cemetery in Coward.

A native of Coward, Rev. Wilkes began his ministry at Lake City Church of God in charge of the bus ministry. He was associate pastor of Garden Sanctuary Church of God for nearly 12 years. He served as pastor of Elgin Church of God and worked at PTL for several years in transportation. He was pastor of West Main Street Church of God for the past 5 years.

Surviving are his wife, Annette B. Wilkes; his mother, Bertha Lee Rogers Wilkes of Scranton; three brothers, Marion Wilkes of Coward, Dexter Wilkes of Lake City and J.D. Wilkes of Timmonsville; and his sister, Jeannette W. Tucker of Lake City.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at West Main Street Church of God and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to West Main Street Church of God, 950 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Joy Adkins

ROCK HILL - Ms. Joy Darlene Brown Adkins, 53, of 1804 Daylily Lane died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

Harry Atkinson

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - Retired Col. Harry Walter Atkinson died of congestive heart failure April 26, 1998, at his home here.

A memorial service was held Dec. 28, 1998, at the David T. Gettys plot at Neely's Creek ARP Church cemetery with Paul Gettys officiating. Mr. Atkinson was the son-in-law of the late David Taylor Gettys and his wife, Mary Allen Gettys, both of York County.

Mr. Atkinson was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Chicago to Edward Stinson Atkinson and his wife, Frieda Walter Atkinson.

Mr. Atkinson received his engineering degree from the University of Illinois and worked as a civil engineer and surveyor in Illinois until World War II. He was a supply officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he was with the 5th Advisory Group in China. He later taught civil engineering and ROTC at Louisiana Tech and retired as a colonel in the Air Force.

He did additional studies in land-use planning at Georgia Tech and made it his second career. After his retirement and relocation from Atlanta to Flowery Branch, Ga., he served on the Hall County Library Board and was several times president of the Northeast Georgia Historical and Genealogical Society. He was an avid genealogist and frequently lectured on the subject.

Surviving are his wife, Mamie Gettys Atkinson; his daughter,

Frieda Mae Atkinson Roell of Altadena, Calif.; three grandsons; and five great-grandsons.

Bass Funeral Home was in charge.

Lenwood Black

ROCK HILL - Mr. Lenwood Eugene "Gene" Black, 66, of 2225 Hunt Circle died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at home.

A private graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery.

Surviving are two brothers, William J. Black of Gastonia, N.C., and John C. Black of Rock Hill; and two sisters, Margie B. Lee and Betty Ann Sanders, both of Rock Hill.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

William Clack

CHESTER - Mr. William "Willie" Brice Clack, 72, of 529 Saluda St. died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Woodward Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Roper officiating and the Rev. W.L. Faile assisting. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Clack was a retired salesman with Chester Furniture Co. He was a member of Woodward Baptist Church, the Chester Civitan Club, the Rotary Club, and the American Legion. He was a 1943 graduate of Chester High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a former Explorer Scout Master.

Surviving are three nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Nina Duncan

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nina Small Duncan, 85, of 17 Barrow St. died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Garden Sanctuary Church of God, with the Revs. Mike Wooten, Gerald Bennett and Reginald E. Murray officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Duncan was retired from J.P. Stevens Industrial Mill with 29 years of service. She was a member of Garden Sanctuary Church of God.

Surviving are her caregiver and daughter-in-law, Virginia S. Duncan of Rock Hill; her stepdaughter, Mildred Steinmeyer of Rock Hill; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Virginia S. Duncan, 6 Barrow St., Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.
