Dwight Roberts

LANCASTER - Mr. Dwight L. Roberts, 67, of Myrtle Beach, formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Myrtle Beach.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lancaster. His remains will be scattered in the church cemetery at a later date.

A former member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Mr. Roberts was a 1954 graduate of Newberry College and did graduate work at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Mr. Roberts was the choral music director and driver education instructor at Lake City Junior High School and Lake City High School. He also was a coach and served as part-time music director for Turbeville United Methodist Church.

In Lancaster, Mr. Roberts was Junior High and High School choral music director. He also organized and directed the Lancaster Community Men's Chorus. He served as minister of music at First Baptist in Fort Mill, Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster, Springvale Baptist in Lugoff and St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Mr. Roberts also was a member of the Lancaster Lion's Club and the Lancaster Jaycees.

Mr. Roberts left the teaching profession to go into sales with Builder's Supply Co., where he became vice-president and general manager. Later, he was associated with Chemlan Colors and Chemicals.

He was the widower of Joyce Ann Macon.

Surviving is his wife Sheila J. Roberts of the home; three daughters, Katherine McRae of Marshville, N.C., Tina Stuber and Elizabeth Usher, both of Lancaster; two sons, D. Randall Roberts of Lancaster and Richard M. Roberts of Sherrill's Ford, N.C.; two brothers, Keith Roberts of Ninety Six and Gerald C. Roberts of Greensboro, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, where potted plants will be accepted.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke Methodist Church Chancel Choir Choral Music Fund, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, 29720.

Essie Vick

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Essie Deese Vick, 86, of 1024 Aragon St. died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Greene Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Vick was a retiree of J.P. Stevens Industrial Mill, where she worked for more than 50 years. She attended the Garden Sanctuary Church of God.

Surviving are her stepson, Curtis Walter "Pete" Vick Jr. of Albany, Ga.; her sister, Maudie D. Toney of Rock Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Becky Lily and Kathy Nelson at 307 Community St.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

James Vincent

WESTVILLE - Mr. James B. Vincent, 77, of 12 Taylor Lane died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Revs. Robert Rivers and Charles Young officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Vincent was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of deacons. He was a member of the Douglas Smith Sunday school class and served as director of the Sunday school department for several years. He was a Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 0172.

Surviving are his wife, Lula Mae Snipes Vincent; two daughters, Kathy Pate and Sandra Hudson, both of Westville; six brothers, Herman Vincent, Bill Vincent, Frank Vincent, Larry Vincent, all of Kershaw; Mike Vincent of Westville and Paul Vincent of Hartsville; three sisters, Myrtle V. Outen of Lancaster, and Lillian V. Broome and Sally Faile, both of Kershaw; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kershaw County, 2001 W. DeKalb St., Camden, SC 29020 or to Bethany Baptist Church, 3100 Youngs Park Road, Westville, SC 29175.

Georgia Cassell

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Georgia Mae "Sis" Cassell, 64, of 630 Colebrook Drive died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.T. Massey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Clover, S.C., Mrs. Cassell was a graduate of Clover schools and retired from Clover Yarns. She was a lifelong member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and the widow of Robert J. Cassell.

Surviving are her foster daughter, Carrie Stewart Easter of the home; her foster son, Thomas Adams of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Sammy Hope Stewart and David Stewart, both of Clover; her special great-niece Shatara Easter of the home; and her great-great-niece, Malaisha' Easter of the home.

Generation Funeral Home in Clover is in charge.

Helen Becker

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Helen Angela Becker, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Monday at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville, N.C., chapel, 10500 Park Road.

Mrs. Becker was a native of Cleveland and retired as office manager of Handling System of Charlotte after 25 years of service.

Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Gise of Tega Cay and Linda Bertges of Fort Mill; six grandchildren; and her great-grandson.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pilgrims' Inn, 236 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29731.

Bertha Bolin

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Bertha Vaughn Bolin, 93, of 261 S. Herlong Ave., died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at the Beverly Health Care Center.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Brown and Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating.

A native of York County, Mrs. Bolin was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Mary Franklin and Marvin Franklin of Rock Hill; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone UMC, 2697 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Imogene Catoe

LANCASTER - Mrs. Imogene Johnson Catoe, 52, of 379 Potter Road died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jack A. Nunn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Catoe was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jesse J. Catoe; her son, John W. Catoe of Lancaster; her daughter Michelle C. Bowers of Lancaster; her mother, Pearl Carter Johnson of Lancaster; her brother, Wayne Johnson of Taft, Calif.; five sisters, Mildred Small and Ruth Taylor, both of Lancaster, Shirley Crook of Mullins, Helen Williams of Charlotte and Doris Peck of Newport, Va.; and her granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Mahaffey Funeral Home.
