Robert Caldwell

WINNSBORO - Mr. Robert L. "Bo" Caldwell, 41, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Great Falls. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Caldwell was a native of Chester County.

Surviving are his wife, Lillie S. Caldwell; his son, John A Simmons Caldwell; his daughter, Katicius Yarborough Caldwell; his mother, Mary S. Caldwell; four brothers, Sammy Caldwell, John Caldwell, Frank Caldwell and Ricky Caldwell; six sisters, Rosa Howze, Claudia Simpson, Betty Walls, Brenda Coleman, Barbara McIlwain and Flora Dickerson; and his grandchild.

O.E. Manigault & Sons Funeral Home in Winnsboro is in charge.

Mary Clowney

ROCK HILL - Ms. Mary Clowney of 746 Carolina Ave. died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Ray Clowney officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park.

Ms. Clowney lived in Baltimore for 40 years and attended New Pilgrim Baptist Church there. She moved to Rock Hill in 1976 and became a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving is her brother, John Clowney of the home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Clemons Funeral Home is in charge.

Edith Croxton

ORANGEBURG - Miss Edith Carol Croxton, 90, of Orangeburg, formerly of Heath Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at the Methodist Home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs, with the Rev. Eugene Feagin officiating.

A graduate of Coker College, Miss Croxton was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a member of Heath Springs Sunshine Senior Citizens Center and the Oakhurst-Heath Springs Home Extension Club. She was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are several cousins.

The family will receive friends after the service.

Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Main Street, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Dorothy Davenport

YORK - Mrs. Dorothy O'Barr Davenport, 87, of 111 S. Congress St. died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Anderson, with the Rev. Phillip McAlister officiating.

Mrs. Davenport retired as a spinner from Wellington Mills in Anderson. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Anderson and was the widow of James E. Davenport.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary Davis

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Davis, 82, of 346 Hampton St. died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating and the Rev. J.E. Boulware assisting. Burial will be at Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was educated in York County public schools. She was a member of the Missionary Society at First Calvary Baptist Church and was a presser for a local dry cleaners.

Surviving are two sisters, Loutee S. Massey of the home and Juanita McIlwain Smith of Philadelphia.

The body may viewed from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Thursday.

Wade Howe Jr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Wade H. Howe Jr. of Charlotte died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Southminster.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Chapel on East Boulevard, with the Rev. Dr. John Earl II officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park.

A native of Gaston County, Mr. Howe grew up in Rock Hill. He served in World War II and afterward sold machine tools and mill supplies for Allison Erwin Co. and the Henry Walke Co. until his retirement in 1978. He was marshal for the Kemper golf tournaments when they were held in Charlotte. He was a former member of Park Road Optimist Club and a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his son, Stephen M. Howe of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Martha Howe Elliott and Rebecca Howe Chambers, both of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hankins &Whittington.

Memorials may be made to Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.

William Mewborn

CHESTER - The Rev. William Edgar "Bill" Mewborn, 74, of 1603 Hardin Strait Road died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Capers Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chris Snelgrove and Dr. Gareth Scott officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. today at Tuxedo Baptist Church cemetery in Tuxedo, N.C.

The Rev. Mewborn was a Methodist minister for 50 years and served at more than 30 churches in South Carolina and Western North Carolina conferences. He was pastor of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Sharon when he died.

He attended school in Kinston, N.C., and graduated from the Georgia Military Academy High School, Brevard College, Highpoint College and Emory University Seminary. He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and Korea. He was in the Merchant Marine. He was a South Carolina state chaplain in the American Legion. He also was active in the VFW, Ruritan and other community activities.

Surviving is his wife, Valma C. Mewborn.
