Guinn Rhodes

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elizabeth Guinn Rhodes, 76, formerly of 1808-A Ebenezer Road, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oakland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert D. Shrum and the Rev. Richard Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Union ARP Church in Richburg.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Rhodes was a registered nurse for 22 years, having worked in Atlanta, at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and at Baptist Hospital in Columbia. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and was the widow of Carl Richard Rhodes.

Surviving is her sister, Ruth Sanders of Myrtle Beach.

Memorials may be made to Oakland Baptist Church, 1068 W. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.

William Shenton

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Harold Shenton, 84, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999.

The funeral will be in Clifton, N.J.

Mr. Shenton was a retired chief petty officer with the Navy. He served in the Pacific during World War II at Guadalcanal, Okinawa and the invasion of the Philippine Islands. He also served during the Korean conflict and was recalled to the Navy Reserve during Vietnam. He was an electrician by trade.

Mr. Shenton was a Mason, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon and a Vestryman of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Paterson, N.J.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Shenton; his son, Robert Shenton of Ontario, Canada; his daughter, Linda Shenton of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

Masonic rites will be 6:30 tonight, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and Wednesday night at the home of his daughter, Linda Shenton, 770 Milton Ave., Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of America, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 312, Columbia, SC 29204.

Dennis Williams

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Dennis Lee "Pup" Williams, 30, of 1040 Delmar Lane, formerly of Richburg, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Ararat AME Zion Church in Richburg, with the Rev. Leroy Ellison officiating and Ministers Thomas Chesley and Tony White assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Williams was a member of Mount Ararat AME Zion Church. He was employed at Northern Tool and Equipment Co. in Charlotte and was a graduate of Lewisville High School.

Surviving are his wife, Robyn Neal Williams; his daughter, Dominque Williams of Lancaster; his stepson, Jeremy Neal of Charlotte; two stepdaughters, Montisha Nesbitt and Chuntavia Neal, both of Charlotte; his mother, Flossie Williams Chesley and stepfather, Minister Thomas Chesley, both of Richburg; seven brothers, James Michael Williams of Lancaster, Kelvin Williams of Hawaii, Bertram Brown and Malcolm Brown, both of Richburg, and Bernard Curry, Rico White and Timothy Barber, all of Great Falls; five sisters, Tymeria Williams of Lancaster, Nekita Williams of Richburg, Rachel B. Burgess of Indian Trail, N.C., Shoyina Grafton of Fort Lawn and Shegretta Young of Chester; and his step-grandmother, Mary Chesley of Richburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., and at other times at the home of Leola Hill, 4476 Hunter Road, Richburg.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Nellie Williams

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Nellie Engle Williams, 77, formerly of Cummings Street, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Eden Gardens.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Slusher and the Rev. Dr. Bob Lee Franklin officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of York County, Mrs. Williams was retired from Burnette Electric. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Business and Professional Women's Society. She was the widow of Walter F. Williams.

Surviving are her son, David A. Williams of Rock Hill; two daughters, Margaret L. Williams Slusher of Woodstock, Ga., and Kathryne Williams Davis of Bennettsville; her brother, William B. Engle of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Corda Wilson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Corda Kessinger Wilson, 79, of 2123 Ridgecrest Road died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Sturgis officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Giles County, Va., Mrs. Wilson was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She also was active with the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, W. Frank Wilson; and two sisters, Louise Bailey of Columbia and Alberta Sarver of Elliston, Va.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Setting it straight

The family of the Rev. Fred Allen McCullough of Charlotte, who died Jan. 17, 1999, did not request that memorials be made to the Duke Medical Center, Liver Transplant Unit.

The family of Mr. Irwin "Ducky" Livingston of Fort Mill, who died Jan. 17, 1999, did request that memorials be made to Duke Medical Center's Liver Transplant Unit. The address is Erwin Road, Durham, NC 27710.

Marlene Barrett

DALLAS, N.C. - Mrs. Marlene Meredith Barrett, 51, of 208-A Campground Road died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Harry Bryant officiating.

Mrs. Barrett was formerly employed with Bowling Green Spinning in Bowling Green.

Surviving are her husband, Buddy James Barrett; her son, Timmy Adams of Rock Hill; two stepsons, Buddy James Barrett Jr. of Gastonia, N.C., and Tommy Lee Barrett of Clover; her daughter, Shirley Smith of Rock Hill; her brother, Wade Meredith of York; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Memorials may be made to Gaston County Hospice, 717 N. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 29054.

Janie Belton

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Janie Stewart Belton, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Meadow Haven Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ray Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Belton was educated in the York County schools. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, where she was on the Missionary Society, the Hymn Choir and was the Mother of the Usher Board. She was employed at the Earl Glasscock home for many years. She was retired from Winthrop University.

Surviving are her son, Leroy Belton of Rock Hill; her brother, Willie Q. Stewart of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of her niece, Janie Moore, 3918 Cleveland Road, Edgemoor.

The body will be taken to the church at noon today, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

Robinson Funeral Home is in charge.
