David Collins

TEGA CAY - Mr. David Collins of Tega Cay died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999.

Mr. Collins was a member of the Men's Breakfast, the Romeos, Vintage Club and Police Academy. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Ohio State Marching Band. He also was a graduate of University of Michigan. He was a Navy pilot in World War II and a member of the American Chemical Society.

Surviving are his wife; two children; and seven grandchildren.

Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge.

James Duncan

ROCK HILL - Mr. James Holt Duncan, 86, formerly of 1610 Stonehill Place died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Sterling House.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Duncan was retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Co., where he worked in the shipping department for 45 years and managed the softball team. He was a member of Park Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a member of the Elks Club.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Davis Duncan; his son, John T. Duncan Sr. of Spartanburg; his daughter, Mary D. Strait of Rock Hill; two stepsons, Wesley Duncan of Charlotte and Gerald Duncan of Sarasota, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Gayle Marlin of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Mary Strait, 837 Lila Mae Court, Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Dorothy Maynard

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dorothy Roach Morton Maynard, 69, of 2815 Bonnybrook Circle died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at home.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Thomas C. Pietila, Ben L. Barnette and Cooper Stonestreet officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Maynard was retired from the Rock Hill school district. She was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church and the Covenant Sunday school class. She was a volunteer at Piedmont Medical Center.

Surviving are her husband, E.D. "Buck" Maynard; two sons, Michael Morton of Rock Hill and Sammy Morton of Columbia; her daughter, Cathy M. Dawkins of Rock Hill; her stepson, E.D. Maynard Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her stepdaughter, Bette Franken of Fayetteville, N.C.; her brother, Samuel Ray Roach of Ellenwood, Ga.; two sisters, Iris R. Odell of Morehead City, N.C., and Edna R. McBride of Graylakes, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Sam McCullough Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Sam McCullough Sr. of 1461 Crawford Road died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in New York.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Mary Peterson

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Mary Wall Peterson, 99, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Wilora Lake Health Care Center in Charlotte.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Mrs. Peterson was a retired auditor with the Hartwell Railroad. She was a graduate of Chester High School and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of David E. Peterson Sr.

Surviving are her son, David E. Peterson Jr. of Charlotte; two granddaughters; and her great-grandchild.

Barron Funeral Home is in charge.

Ora Settlemyer

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ora Hance Settlemyer, 94, formerly of 346 Charlotte Ave., died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Magnolia Manor.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Settlemyer was a homemaker and the widow of Harry C. Settlemyer. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Starlight Chapter No. 243, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are two daughters, Arline Holt of Kingsport, Tenn., and Margaret Crocker of Rock Hill; her sister, Julia Mobley of Chester; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Nursery Department, 215 Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Catherine Wasel

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Catherine Graf Wasel, 87, of 244 Pointe Circle died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be noon Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Wasel was member of St. Anne Catholic Church and a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Choir in Queens, N.Y. She is the widow of Frank C. Wasel.

Surviving are four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A Rosary service will be 6:30 tonight followed by visitation from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 1694 Bird St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
