Mary Lou Carter

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Mary Lou Orr Carter, 66, of 8 Walnut St. died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry E. Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Carter worked as a sales clerk for Sky City Store and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, C.W. Carter of Great Falls; two sons, Eric Carter and E. Lee Carter, both of Lancaster; two daughters, Cathy Sanders and Rene Jordan, both of Fort Lawn; her brother, James Orr of Catawba; eight grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home in Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 1058, Great Falls, SC 29055.

William Mewborn

CHESTER - Rev. William Edgar "Bill" Mewborn, 74, of 1603 Hardin Strait Road in Chester died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Capers Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Chris Snelgrove and Dr. Gareth Scott officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Tuxedo Baptist Church Cemetery in Tuxedo, N.C.

The Rev. Mewborn was a Methodist minister for 50 years and served at more than 30 churches in South Carolina and Western North Carolina conferences. He was pastor of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Sharon when he died.

He attended school in Kinston, N.C., and graduated from the Georgia Military Academy High School, Brevard College, Highpoint College and Emory University Seminary. He also was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and Korea. He was in the Merchant Marine. He was a South Carolina state chaplain in the American Legion. He also was active in the VFW, Ruritan and other community activities.

Surviving is his wife, Valma C. Mewborn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.

Fred Moses

CLOVER - Mr. Fred Mason Moses, 87, of 1329 North U.S. 321 died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Houston Moses officiating. Burial will be at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Moses was retired from Textiles Inc. of Gastonia, N.C. He grew up on his family's farm three miles from Clover.

Surviving are his wife, Jean Carpenter Moses of Clover; two sons, Billy Moses of Clover and Kenneth Moses of Lake Hartwell, Ga.; two daughters, Shirley M. Grayson of Clover and Betty Haney of Kingston, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Wade Simpson

INDIAN LAND - Mr. Wade Simpson, 71, of 261 Dogwood Trail Lane died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Wolfe Funeral Home chapel, with the Revs. Joe Marze, Henry Braswell and Al Brigman officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mr. Simpson was retired from Cone Mills and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are two daughters, Faye Carter of Fort Mill and Frances Barnes of Moorseville, N.C.; his brother, Eugene Simpson of Waxhaw, N.C.; two sisters, Pauline Little of Rock Hill and Esther Dawkins of Matthews, N.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Bette Wilkie

FLETCHER, N.C. - Mrs. Bette Anne Wilkie, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Hendersonville First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Scoggins and Lawrence Rhodes officiating.

Mrs. Wilkie was a state senator from 1974 to 1976, defeating the man who beat her husband. She was the only female senator during those years.

Surviving are her husband, Carroll Wilkie; her son, Steve Wilkie of Hendersonville; her daughter, Rebecca Cunningham of Rock Hill; her sister, Nancy Justus of Hendersonville; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church and at other times in the home.

Memorials may be made to the Hooper's Creek Community Club Building Fund, Rt. 3, Box 498, Fletcher, NC 28732.

Corda Wilson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Corda Kessinger Wilson, 79, of 2123 Ridgecrest Road died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel, with the Rev. Rick Sturgis officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Giles County, Va., Mrs. Wilson was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She also was active with the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, W. Frank Wilson; two sisters, Louise Bailey of Columbia and Alberta Sarver of Elliston, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill chapel, and at other times in the home.

Carolyn Anderson

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Carolyn June Kish Anderson, 57, of 1998 Aldersgate Road died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Mercy Hospital South.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Bridgeport, Mrs. Anderson was a systems analyst with Day & Zimmerman, assigned to the DuPont offices in Charlotte.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie Davis of Lampe, Mo., Kim Reber of Greenwood and Jennifer Bowling of Charlotte; her brother, Jules Kish of Connecticut; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, York County Unit, 615 North Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
