Edward Dawson

CHESTER - Mr. Edward Hood Dawson, 85, of 143 Saluda St. died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purity Presbyterian Church, with Drs. Joe Brooks and George Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mayor of Chester from 1967 to 1975, Mr. Dawson also served on the City Council from 1959 to 1967. He was chairman of the Chester Planning and Zoning Commission from 1977 to 1998 and served on the board of the Chester Metropolitan Water District as well as other boards.

He was past president of the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of South Carolina, the Chester Rotary Club and the Chester Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the South Carolina Historical Society, the Chester County Historical Society, the Old Purity Society, the Chester Assembly and the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was a retired Army colonel and a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline Dawson; two sons, Edward Dawson of Asheville, N.C., and Robert Dawson of Charlotte; his daughter, Ann Castle of Atlanta; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today at the home, 143 Saluda St.

Memorials may be made to Purity Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 278, Chester, SC 29706, or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Elizabeth Guinn Rhodes, 76, formerly of 1808-A Ebenezer Road died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Bass Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Jeannie Parker

FORT MILL - Mrs. Jeannie Hancock Parker, 80, of 9888 Barberville Road died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glen Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

A native of Ruby and formerly of Charlotte, Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and a member of Glen Rock Baptist Church. She was the widow of William Parker.

Surviving is her sister, Dorothy Hancock O'Banion of the home.

The family will receive friends at the home, where the body will lie in state until the funeral.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Agnes Shuey

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Agnes Shuey of Rock Hill died Saturday, Jan 23, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Local funeral arrangements will be announced by Bass Funeral Home.

Cynthina Tate

GASTONIA, N.C. - Ms. Cynthina Tate died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Brian Healthcare Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Generation Funeral Home in Clover.

John Thompson

NEW YORK - Mr. John Thompson, 71, of New York, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. C.S. Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Union Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Thompson graduated from Orangeburg public schools. He was a former member of Union Baptist Church and was retired from the National Broadcasting System in New York.

Surviving are his brother, William Thompson of New York; and two sisters, Gladys Parks of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Alice Thompson of Charlotte.

Robinson Funeral home is in charge.

Eva Threatt

KERSHAW - Mrs. Eva Elizabeth Gardner Threatt, 88, of 1030 Jones Road died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Buffalo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Morris, Paul Stephens and Andy Immanuel officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Baptist Church cemetery.

A former Sunday school teacher and member of the Woman's Missionary Union, Mrs. Threatt attended Buffalo Baptist Church. She retired from the Lancaster plant of Springs Industries. She was the widow of L.C. Threatt.

Surviving are six daughters, Reba Edwards of Heath Springs, Pat Stephens of Bethune, and Clara Vincent, Naomi Vincent, Edith Vincent and Judy Coates, all of Kershaw; two brothers, Melvin Gardner of Lancaster and George Gardner of Kershaw; her sister, Addie Hegler of Heath Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and at other times at the home of Willie and Clara Vincent, 1030 Jones Road, Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 6390 Lockhart Road, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Cauthen Funeral Home of Kershaw is in charge.

Dennis Williams

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Dennis Lee "Pup" Williams, 30, of 1040 Delmar Lane, formerly of Richburg, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at home of Leola Hill, 4476 Hunter Road, Richburg.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., will announce arrangements.

Helena Grant

FORT MILL - Mrs. Helena "Lee" Claudette Roy Grant, 58, of 593 Abode Lane died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Independent Bible Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jason Coley officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Grant was a homemaker and member of Independent Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Donald W. Grant; two sons, Kenneth William Grant of the home and Kevin Owen Grant of Fort Mill; her brother, Raymond Roy of Manchester, N.H.; her sister, Doris David of Manchester; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Independent Bible Baptist Church and at other times at home.

Memorials may be made to Independent Bible Baptist Church, 17025 Lancaster Highway, Charlotte, NC 28277 or Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Carolinas Chapter, Charlotte, NC 28273.
