Pete Stewart

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. Grier Pierce "Pete" Stewart, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don McKinney officiating.

A native of Clover, Mr. Stewart retired from the Rock Hill Fire Department after 30 years as a captain. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Air Corps in France.

Surviving are two sons, Leslie Stewart of Rock Hill and Terry Stewart of Shalotte, N.C.; his daughter, Rena S. Owens of Rock Hill; two brothers, Lloyd Stewart and Mack Stewart, both of Clover; his sister, Annie Lee Ballard of Clover; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Thelma Stewart

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Mrs. Thelma Latham Stewart, 71, of Cherry Grove died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Grandstrand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Epworth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don McKinney officiating.

A native of York County, Mrs. Stewart was a member of Tops and Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Hoodtown. She was a hair stylist and worked at Smith Enterprises. She was the widow of Pete Stewart.

Surviving are two sons, Leslie Stewart of Rock Hill and Terry Stewart of Shalotte, N.C.; her daughter, Rena S. Owens of Rock Hill; her brother, Moselee Latham of Venus, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Charles Talley

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Charles Heyward "Pappy" Talley, 91, of The Oaks, formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Beverly Health Care Center.

A graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill, with the Rev. B. Joe Parker officiating.

A native of York County, he was a self-employed contractor in home construction and real estate. He was a former maintenance supervisor with Charlotte Catholic School. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Thomasville and a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Charlotte, where he was former chairman of the building committee and trustee. He was the widower of Margaret Walker Talley.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Vert of Gaithersburg, Md., and Ann Parker of Thomasville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. B. Joe and Ann Parker, 809 E. Cooksey Drive, Thomasville.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church building fund, P.O. Box 1049, Thomasville, NC 27361 or to the Parents Together Program of the Special Children's School, 4505 Shattalon Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

Thomas Watson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas Watson, 79, of 4411 Givens Road died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert C. Brown officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Givens [Watson] was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of York County. He was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are his sister, Tillie Mae Watson Givens of Rock Hill.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 6 tonight at Robinson Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.

The family will be at the home of his sister, Tillie Mae Watson Givens, 4241 Givens Road, Rock Hill.

Edna Williams

LANCASTER - Mrs. Edna Lucille Brasington Williams, 90, of 707 Central Ave. died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating.

Mrs. Williams was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was the widow of Lee Roy Williams.

Surviving are five sons, Bruce L. Williams and M. Lathan Williams, both of Tampa, Fla., Clyde M. Williams of Fort Mill and Maurice M. Williams and E. Lee Williams, both of Lancaster; her daughter, June Nichols of Rock Hill; 26 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Lee and Libby Williams, 2180 J.B. Denton Road, Lancaster.

Mae Burns

HICKORY, N.C. - Mrs. Mae Sealey Burns, 83, formerly of York, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Pell Care Nursing Home.

The graveside service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sharon, with the Rev. John Wilkes officiating and the Rev. T.A. Little assisting.

Mrs. Burns was a homemaker and a member of West Main Street Church of God in Rock Hill. She was the widow of Henry Harrison Burns.

Surviving are three sons, William D. "W.D." Burns of York, Clyde Burns of Tampa, Fla., and Earl Burns of Hickory, N.C.; two daughters, Helen B. Carter of York and Grace B. Shillinglaw of Sharon; her sister, Nettie Sealey of Lockhart; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to West Main Street Church of God, 950 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery Association, 3852 Woodlawn St., Sharon, SC 29742.

Pearl Curry

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Pearl Lee Curry, 52, of Gibson End Road died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.A. McFarlan officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Curry was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She attended Elizabeth Heights High School in Great Falls.

Surviving are her husband, Roy Curry; five sons, Leon Curry, John Lewis Curry, Andrew Curry, Eric Curry, all of Great Falls, and Leroy Roseboro of Camden; four daughters, Dorothy Gladden, Pamela Simpson, Tyesha Trapp, and Keshia Curry, all of Great Falls; three brothers, James Frank Clark, Willie Lee Clark, both of Lancaster, and James Belk of Great Falls; six sisters, Annie Mae Williams, Azalee Walker, and Martha Florence McGriff, all of Lancaster, Ida Mae Spence, Mary Westley and Inez Gaston, all of Great Falls; and 17 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home.

The body will taken to the church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
