Wardell Dunham

CHESTER - Mr. Wardell Dunham, 85, of 2344 South Fork Road died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Tanglewood Healthcare Center in Ridgeway.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. J.H. Bailey officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Dunham was a native of Chester. He was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and trustee and member of the AP&B Society. He attended the public schools of Chester County and retired from the city of Charlotte. He was the widower of Lecy Wade Dunham.

Surviving are three nieces whom he reared, Mary Miller of the home, Garlita Howze of Plainsfield, N.J., and Patricia Robinson of Charlotte and two great-nieces whom he reared, Cathy Cherry of Union and Belinda Graham of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body will be carried to the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

Sarah Freeman

McCONNELLS - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Freeman, 68, of 155 Hidden Branch Drive died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Christian Home Baptist Church in Lowrys, with the Rev. Lloyd Reid officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Lowrys, Mrs. Freeman was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Hymn Choir, the Missionary Society, and the Pastor's Aide Society. She was retired from the York School District No. 1, where she was a cafeteria worker.

Surviving are her husband, Ernest Lee Freeman; two sons, James Ernest Freeman and Newton Osmund Freeman, both of Rock Hill; five daughters, Lillie Odessa Chisholm and Stephanie Denise Nichols, both of Rock Hill, Donzetta Freeman of the home, Patricia Ann Love and Priscilla McConnell, both of McConnells; her brother, Newton Howard of Charlotte; four sisters, Eva Kenion, Ola Mae Love, Dolly Howard and Ethel Lee Smith, all of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in York.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Susan Finison

LANCASTER - Mrs. Susan Turner Finison, 82, of 1695 Franandel Drive died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs.

Mrs. Finison was the widow of John Charles Wright and William Fred Finison.

Surviving are her son, John Charles Wright of Williamson, Ga.; her daughter, Susan Sturgis of Jonesboro, Ga.; five brothers, Clarence Turner of Canoga Park, Calif., George Turner of Heath Springs, Lloyd Frank Turner, John Riley Turner and Charlie Turner, all of Lancaster; and five grandchildren.

Geraldine Koren

LANCASTER - Mrs. Geraldine Jordan Koren, 82, of 506 Rock Springs Road died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Shane Patrick and Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Koren was a homemaker. She attended West Virginia Career College and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Joseph Stephen Koren.

Surviving are her mother, Dilla Knapp Jordan of West Virginia; and two sisters, Mary K. Shulz of Gretna, La., and Betty L. Jordan of St. Albans, W. Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 S. Market St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Bobbie Merritt

INDIAN LAND - Mrs. Bobbie Jean McNeill Merritt, 56, of 8868 Collins Road died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Osceola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Merritt was a retired paralegal from the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, a division of the Social Security Administration and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She served on the Lancaster County Council for Aging and was a member of the Yellow Rock Ramblers Square Dance Club. She was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church, where she served as chairperson of the Worship Committee and treasurer of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas R. Merritt; her daughter, Teresa Merritt Moore of Indian Land; her parents, George Robert and Dorothy Harris McNeill of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two sisters, Brenda Little of Dobson, N.C., and Beth Foster of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Osceola United Methodist Church, 6575 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Helen Parker

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Helen Janette Rodgers Parker, 80, of 3525 Homestead Road died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Parker was retired from Celanese after 19 years of service. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Calvin A. Parker; her son, Joseph O. Taylor of Quinton, Va.; her daughter, Patricia Ann Hathcock of Rock Hill; four brothers, J.W. Rodgers of Lancaster, Quinton Rodgers, Fred Rodgers and Crawford Rodgers, all of Rock Hill; three sisters, Dorothy Armour of Rock Hill, Mavis Caskey of Lancaster and Loma Varnadore of Chester, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

David Sanders Jr.

BLACKSTOCK - David S. Sanders Jr., infant son of David S. Sanders Sr. and Mary Simpson Sanders of 2680 Wray Road died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Blackstock, with the Rev. J.D. McClurkin officiating.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Monterria Simpson, Octavia Simpson and Travis Simpson, all of the home; three sisters, Shemika Belk, Unique Belk and Coco Belk, all of Great Falls; and paternal grandparents, David Sanders of Winnsboro and Viola Maloney of Great Falls.

Kings Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., in Chester is in charge.
