Carolyn Plyler

LANCASTER - Mrs. Carolyn Ann Roberts Plyler, 55, of 401 Glenwood Ave. died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joel Rhyner officiating. Entombment will be at the Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Plyler was a retired food preparation manager for Pizza Hut. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmy E. Plyler; two daughters, Linda Higgins of Lancaster and Lisa Bell of Gastonia, N.C.; two stepsons, Darin Plyler and J. Timothy Plyler, both of Lancaster; two stepdaughters, Lynn Dixon of Lancaster and Rhonda Plyler of Augusta, Ga.; her mother, Ruth Mackey Roberts of Lancaster; two sisters, Judy Craig and Dianne Ghent, both of Lancaster; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Vera Porter

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Vera Spivey Porter, 90, of 261 S. Herlong Ave. died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon and the Rev. Linda Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Dothan, Ala., Mrs. Porter was a baker for Betty's Cake Box. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for 62 years and was a member of the Browning Sykes Sunday school class. She was the widow of James Vernon Porter.

Surviving are her stepdaughter, Edna P. Stewart of Rock Hill; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bass Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Don Rapier

LANCASTER - Mr. Don Bert Rapier, 58, of 509 Mountainbrook Road died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ralph Riddle and Karl Bernsdorff officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Rapier was a purchasing clerk with Morrison Textile Machinery. He was a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge and the Reformation Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, Jenelle Gardner Rapier; his son, Jack Donald Whaley of Lancaster; two sisters, Jean Boling of Lancaster and Patricia Rapier of Atlanta and his aunt.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., Lancaster, SC 29720 or a charity of one's choice.

T.D. Wilkins Jr.

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Talmadge DeWitt "T.D." Wilkins Jr., 80, of Blacksburg died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Will Harper, Dewey Dean and Sinclair Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkins was employed more than 45 years with Burton Dixie Corp. and retired as vice president. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of St. John's United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the finance committee.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Colby Wilkins; five daughters, Beth Shropshire and Susan Wallace, both of Rock Hill, Sissy Brock of Gaffney, Judy Rose of Denver, N.C., and Mary Hardin of York; his son, Talmadge Wilkins of Union; his stepdaughter, Anne Lea of Singapore; his stepson, Roger Sharrett of Raleigh, N.C.; his brother, George Harry Wilkins of Blacksburg; two sisters, Sarah Strain of Shelby, N.C., and Mary Young of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels, 6600 Wilkinson Blvd., Belmont, NC 28012 or Cherokee County Meals-on-Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342 or Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Paul Curbeam

CHESTER - Mr. Paul Curbeam, 76, of Chester County Nursing Center, formerly of James F. Wherry Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Moses Lightner officiating and the Rev. R. L. McClurkin assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Curbeam was a member of Mount Hopewell Baptist Church. He attended Chester County public schools. He retired from the maintenance department of Winthrop University.

Surviving are his daughter, Betty Pickett of Rock Hill; four brothers, John S. Curbeam, Leroy Curbeam Sr. and Lester Curbeam, all of Chester, and Joe Wylie Curbeam of Rock Hill; his sister, Margaret C. Hemphill of Chester; two grandchildren; his a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Margaret C. Hemphill, 110 White Oak St., Chester.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at King's Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Neddie Gardner

COLUMBIA - Miss Neddie Gardner, 96, formerly of Lancaster, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in Columbia.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Warren Jones officiating.

A native of Lancaster, Miss Gardner was a retired beautician.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at the church of your choice.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Frances Howell

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Frances Evelyn Moore Howell of Charlotte died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Presbyterian Hospital, Hospice Unit.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery West, with the Rev. Elizabeth Hyland officiating.

A native of Blacksburg, Mrs. Howell retired from Presbyterian Hospital after 27 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Howell Forrester of Fort Mill; two brothers, Frank L. Moore of Charlotte and William B. Moore of Shelby, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel.
