CHESTER - Mrs. Essie Gladden Williams, 76, of 1310 Gethsemane Road died Tuesday, June 23, 1998 in Greenville.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home.

CHESTER - Mrs. Essie Gladden Williams, 76, of 1310 Gethsemane Road died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Piedmont.
The funeral will be noon Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.W. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Chester County. She was a retired educator for Chester County schools. She was a member of Josephus Chapter No. 160 Order of Eastern Star, senior Missionary Society, the AP&B Society No. 3, the Chester County senior citizens association and the Leroy Springs Recreation Center. She was a graduate of Finley High School, Friendship College and Benedict College. She was the widow of Joe Willie Williams.
Surviving are four sons, Samuel H. Williams of Charlotte, Harold Williams of Chester, Carold Williams of Columbia, and Gladden E. Williams of Raleigh, N.C.; three daughters, Joann Williams of Washington, D.C., and Essie M. Williams and Gwendolyn Williams, both of Columbia; three sisters, Doreatha Toney of Washington, D.C., Leola Neely of Piedmont, and Willa Mae Chisholm of Portsmouth, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home.
The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.
King's Funeral Home is in charge.

Martha Blakeley
CHESTER - Mrs. Martha Pitts Blakeley, 41, of 1112 Rachel Drive died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Foursquare Gospel Church, with the Rev. Fred Sharrai officiating. Burial will be at Uriel Presbyterian Church.
A native of Chester County, she was a lab technician with Standard Products in Winnsboro.
Surviving are her husband, W. Mark Blakeley; three daughters, Rachel Jesse and Angel Boulware, both of Lancaster, and Tammy Boulware of Chester; two brothers, John Pitts and Zeb B. Pitts Jr., both of Chester; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Foursquare Gospel Church, Pinckney Street, Chester, SC 29706.

Leonard Givens
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Leonard Gaytre Givens, 24, of Charlotte, formerly of Blackstock, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at New Life Baptist Church in Charlotte, with the Rev. Bobby Martin officiating. Burial will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Givens was a native of Mecklenburg County and was employed as a utility worker for the city of Charlotte. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Surviving are his father, Roosevelt Dunham and his stepmother, Gladys Dunham, both of Charlotte; his mother, Patricia Jeter Grier and his stepfather, Tommie Grier, both of Blackstock; three brothers, Roosevelt Grier Jr. of Blackstock, Jeffrey Crowder of Charlotte and Tommy Grier Jr. of Winnsboro; seven sisters, Ann Michelle Brown of Chester, Glenda Delores Sanders and LaFrances Grier, both of Winnsboro, and Sharon Givens, Kristina Dunham, Tammy Davis and Kimela Reed, all of Charlotte; his grandfather, Leonard Givens of Pineville, N.C.; his step-grandfather, Elliott Grier of Winnsboro; and his great-grandmother, Ann Dunham of Pineville, N.C.
The body will be taken to the church at noon today, and the family will receive friends at 1 p.m. today at the church.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Louis Green, 86, of 1920 Ebenezer Road died Friday, June 26, 1998 at Sterling House.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Louis Green, 89, of 1920 Ebenezer Road Apt. 702 died Friday, June 26, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Ira Kaufman Funeral Home Chapel in Southfield, Mich. Burial will be at Adat Shalom Cemetery in Detroit.
Born in Russia, Mr. Green was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired electrician in the construction trade.
Surviving are his daughter, Joan Colestock of Rock Hill.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Emory Rickman
COLUMBIA - Mr. Emory B. Rickman, 78, of 220 Hardin St. died Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at Dorn VA Medical Center.
A graveside service with military honors was held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998 at Florence National Cemetery.
Mr. Rickman was a retired coal miner and an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are three brothers, James Rickman of Ohio, Dennis Rickman of Michigan and Walt Rickman of Mount Holly, N.J.; six sisters, Mary Stock of Baltimore, Mildred Lilly of Beckley, W. Va., Helen Caneron of Texas, Wanda Sfcfech of Killen, Texas, Carol Schubert of Glen Birney, Md. and Doris Woods of Butte, Mont.
Greene Funeral is in charge of local arrangements.

Rudolph Schmid
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Rudolph J. Schmid, 86, of 5512 Carmel Road No. 126 died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Lakeview Living Center in Pineville, N.C.
Mr. Schmid retired from Grumman Aircraft as an expediter. He was the widower of Mary Gollatz Schmid.
Surviving are his daughter, Marianne Schmid Palladino of Lancaster; his sister, Carol Heller of Boston Spa, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, 446-F Colonial Ave., Lancaster.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mabel Sharpe
FLORENCE - Mrs. Mabel Coleman Sharpe, 88, of Florence died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharpe was a gardener. Active in the Mid-Carolina Daylily Society, she was a daylily judge of the Hemerocallis(CQ) Society for more than 20 years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was active in the children's ministry.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Sanders of Lake Wylie; her son, Bucky Sharpe of Columbia; two sisters, Lillis Coleman of Florence and Mary Coleman McGee of Charleston; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church building fund, 225 W. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29501 or to the charity of one's choice.

CATAWBA - Mrs. Ramona Weaver Skinner, 69, of 4090-3 Roddey Road died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at home.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Dewey Wise and Marion Pressley officiating. Burial will be in Eckerd Memorial Park Cemetery in Eckerd, W. Va.
A native of Ridgeley, W. Va., Mrs. Skinner was retired from Eagle Convex Glass Co. and a member of American Flint Glass Workers Union of North America Local 567 in Clarksburg, W. Va.
Surviving are her husband, Jackie Skinner Sr.; two sons, Dick Weaver of Lesslie and Ernest Weaver of Buchanan, W. Va.; her stepson, Jackie Skinner of Jr. of Altoona, Pa.; two brothers, Donald Spangler and Jack Spangler of Cumberland, Md.; her sister, Lois Brown of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at home after the service.

Walter Smalls
ROCK HILL - Mr. Walter Smalls, 81, of 4445 Givens Road died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at his home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert C. Brown officiating. The Rev. John D. McCoy will give the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Mr. Smalls was a native of Chester County. He attended the public schools of York and Chester counties. At an early age he joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester and later became a member of New Zion Baptist Church under watch care. He was a World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart. He was retired from the United States Postal Service. He served as chaplain for the Disabled American Veterans for several years. He was past president of the AP&B Society No. 7.
Surviving are his wife, Lizzie Jamison Smalls; his son, David J. Smalls of Rock Hill; his stepson, Curtis Jamison of Newark, N.J.; four daughters, Brenda Smalls of Reidsville, N.C., Gwendolyn Johnson of Wellington, Fla., Hilda Dillard of Ruffin, N.C., and Wanda McNeil of Rock Hill; two sisters, Refula Witherspoon of Charlotte and Laura Johnson of Washington; his brother, Mancil Small of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. today.
