Ida Funderburk

MONROE, N.C. - Mrs. Ida Lee Starnes Funderburk, 82, of 1714 Mount Pleasant Church Road died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Union Region Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Revs. John Culbert, Paul Simpson and Reese Riggins officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Born in Union County, Mrs. Funderburk was a pre-school Sunday school teacher for 39 years at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Fairley Glenson Funderburk; three sons, Glenson Funderburk, Theodore "Ted" Funderburk and Calvin Funderburk, all of Monroe; three daughters, Joann Witmore of Matthews, N.C., Gearlene Griffin of Fort Mill and Judy Funderburk-King of Monroe; her brother, Billy Ward Starnes of Monroe; two sisters, Ethel Crisp of Matthews and Georgia Carnes of Monroe; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home Colonial Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, c/o Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 2517 Stack Road, Monroe, NC 28110.

Barbara Lawson

HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. - Mrs. Barbara Daniel Lawson, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in Hawkinsville.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Orange Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church.

A native of Claxton, Ga., Mrs. Lawson was an accomplished pianist and a homemaker. She also was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. A Duke University graduate, she taught school for two years at Glenwood Elementary School. She was the widow of Roger Hugh Lawson.

Surviving are her son, Hugh Lawson of Hawkinsville; five daughters, Rena Lawson McCune of Alexandria, Va., Nancy Lawson Peterson of Vidalia, Ga., Harriet Lawson Towe of Tennille, Ga., Starr Lawson Lee of Highlands, N.C., and Matilda Lawson Revell of Rock Hill; her brother, John J.S. Daniel of Granite Bay, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the social hall of the church or at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lawson, McCormick Avenue, Hawkinsville.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, Hawkinsville, GA 31036.

Willie Robinson

ROCK HILL - Mr. Willie Robinson, 86, of 1844 Oakdale Road died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Brown officiating, the Rev E.E. Vance delivering the eulogy and the Rev. Marie Alexander assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Robinson was a retired construction worker and attended York County public schools.

Surviving are two sisters, Mamie R. Brown and Pearl R. Sterling, both of Rock Hill.

The body will be place in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the church before the service.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge.

Darryl Karle

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Mr. Darryl Scott Karle, 30, of 2724 Sood Road in Knoxville, formerly of Lake Wylie, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York, with Father Edward McDevitt officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Karle was a graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School and Winthrop College. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Kass Karle; his parents, Ron and Aura Karle of Lake Wylie; his son, Michael Christian Karle of Knoxville; his daughter, Rachel Morgan Karle of Knoxville; two brothers, Gregory Karle of Cincinnati and Todd Karle, of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Victoria K. Estevan of Rock Hill, Stefanie K. Gazich, of Blaine, Minn, and Valerie K. Gebhardt of Harrisburg, N.C.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, 900 E. Oak Hill Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917.

Gilbert Tidwell Sr.

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Gilbert Tidwell Sr., 70, of 20 Arrowood Road died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Z.B. Wells officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Tidwell was a retiree of J.P. Stevens Co. and attended Elizabeth Heights High School. He was a member of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are his wife, Johnnie Mae Maloney Tidwell; four sons, Gilbert Tidwell Jr. of Lancaster, Charles Tidwell of Charlotte and Clifford Tidwell and Raymond Tidwell, both of Great Falls; two daughters, Evelyn Denise Tidwell and Jacquelyn Tidwell, both of Great Falls; three brothers, Quillous Tidwell, Haskell Tidwell and Richard White, all of Great Falls; his sister, Betty White of Great Falls; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Washington Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Thelma Wade

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Thelma Cummings Wade, of 904 Rolling Green Road died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Bruce Walker

CLOVER - Mr. Bruce Wayne Walker, 41, of Bowling Green Drive died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Chuck Baynard officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lytle Carpenter Walker; his stepson, Johnathan Byron Lytle of Lake Wylie; and his half brother, William R. Plemmons of York.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home.
