Joe Ferrell

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joseph Richard Ferrell of 3000 Hilton Road died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at West End Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Lowery and Larry Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home.

J. Richard Ferrell

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joseph Richard Ferrell, 64, of 3000 Hilton Road died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at West End Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Lowery and Larry Gregory officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Ferrell retired from Bowater after 36 years of service. He owned and operated Ferrell's Lawn Mower Sales & Service for 29 years. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and former Sunday school teacher. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict and served in Guam.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores Brewton Ferrell; two daughters, Beverly Ferrell Morehead and Teresa Ferrell Davis, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Katherine McFadden of Fort Mill; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 1727 McConnells Highway, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Joanna Magruder

ROCK HILL - Miss Joanna E. Magruder, 82, of 475 Plantation Road died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, with the Rev. Clarke Vestal officiating.

A native of Kansas City, Mo., and formerly of Denver, Miss Magruder was a graduate of Colorado Teachers College and received her master's degree from the University of Denver. She was a retired school teacher of the Arapahoe County School District No. 1 of Colorado.

Surviving are five cousins.

Cleveland Pendergrass

CHESTER - Mr. Cleveland Pendergrass, 60, of 117 Lowery St. died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church on Ligon Street, with the Rev. Robert Entzminger officiating. Burial will be at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church cemetery in Wilksburg.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Pendergrass attended Chester County schools and joined Union Baptist Church at an early age. He was a member of the Tri-County Athletic Club and a golfer.

Surviving are his wife, Janie Viola "Sis" Caldwell Pendergrass; two sons, Vernon Pendergrass of the home and Charles Ward of Baltimore; two daughters, Anita Pendergrass of the home and Denise Cornwell of Chester; two brothers, William Pendergrass of Chester and Floyd Pendergrass of Rock Hill; his sister, Cynthia Bonds of Detroit; five grandchildren, two of whom he reared, Cody Pendergrass and Carlos Pendergrass, both of the home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Janie Mae Mayfield, 178 Loomis St., Chester.

The body will be taken to the church at noon Thursday.

The body may be viewed from noon to 9 tonight at Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road.

Patricia Plyler

TREADWAY, Tenn. - Mrs. Patricia Ann Plyler, 54, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church in Treadway. A service in Lancaster will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christian Assembly Church, with the Rev. Marvin Tennant officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mrs. Plyler was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, William "Cliff" Plyler; her son, Cliff "Bubba" Plyler of Treadway; three daughters, Teresa Peagler and Donnal Rabon, both of Lancaster, and Tammy Seal of Treadway; her father, Homer E. Adams of Lancaster; her brother, Terry W. Adams of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; her great-grandchild; and four foster grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mahaffey Funeral Home in Lancaster.

Steve Thrift

ROCK HILL - Mr. Steve Earl Thrift, 50, of 1740 Smoke Road died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at home.

A memorial visitation service will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Mr. Thrift was employed with Spring Industries in Fort Mill for 26 years.

Surviving are his son, Chris Thrift of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Kathy Thrift and Renee Burt, both of Rock Hill; and his brother, Larry Thrift of McConnells.

Margaret Waldrop

CLOVER - Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Moore Waldrop, 67, of 937 Echo Springs Circle died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Ellis officiating. Burial will be at Poplar Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Shelby, N.C.

Mrs. Waldrop was retired from Marion Yarns in Clover.

Surviving are her husband, Manuel Waldrop; her daughter, Patricia Clontz of Charlotte; her mother, Dixie G. Moore of Shelby; three brothers, Ben Moore of Elgin, Ill., Tom Moore of Alexander City, Ala., and William Moore of Charlotte; two sisters, Louise White and Susan Jones, both of Shelby; her grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home.

Joseph Workman

RIDGEWAY - Mr. Joseph Lyle Workman, 83, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Tanglewood Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Littlejohn officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Workman was a member of West End Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired delivery van driver, having worked for several dry cleaners in the Rock Hill area.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, one of whom, Thomas Wayne McCoy of Rock Hill, was his caregiver.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Thomas Wayne McCoy, 3333 Lesslie Woods Court, Rock Hill.
