Benjamin Hagins

LANCASTER - Mr. Benjamin Curtis Hagins, 89, of 825 Woodland Drive died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westside Cemetery, with the Revs. Needham Williamson and Samuel N. Thomas officiating.

A Lancaster County native, Mr. Hagins was the retired former owner and operator of Hagins Pharmacy. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific on various hospital ships. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marion Simrill Hagins; his daughter, Julie Hagins Hinson of West Columbia; two brothers, Ralph Todd Hagins of Columbia and Odell B. Hagins of Lancaster; two sisters, Mary Alice Fickling of Hickory, N.C., and Marian Hagins Small of Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.

Luther Hendrix

KERSHAW - Mr. Luther Tillman Hendrix, 74, of 306 E. Stevens Drive died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Hendrix was born in Kershaw. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant major.

Surviving are two sons, John L. Hendrix of Alexandria, Va., and Ben Hendrix of Kershaw; his daughter, Ann Spinks of Kershaw; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home in Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to the VFW National Home, 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.

John Marshal

ST. PETERSBURG, Va. - Mr. John D. Marshal, formerly of Rock Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home in Rock Hill.

Lula Scruggs

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lula Scruggs, 94, of 341-A Wilhurst St. died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Chisholm officiating and the Revs Ronald Broome, Paul Long, W.W. Thompson, and W.B. White assisting. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester County.

Mrs. Scruggs was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the hymn choir. She was educated in Fairfield County public schools.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Pickett, Agnes L. Davis and Patricia Ferguson, all of Rock Hill; her brother, Dan Scruggs of Rock Hill; three sisters, Lindsay Chambers of Rock Hill, Viola Hunt of Virginia, and Rosa Holmes of Blair; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Parker Funeral Home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Estes Trull

FORT LAWN - Mrs. Estes Faile Trull, 85, of 5821 Willowbrook St. died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, with the Rev. Curtis Wells officiating. Burial will be at El Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Trull was born in Lancaster. A homemaker, Mrs. Trull was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Curtis Lee Trull.

Surviving are four sons, J. T. Trull and Shannon Trull, both of Lancaster, James W. Trull of Heath Springs, and Charles Trull of Myrtle Beach; her daughter, Jean Edwards of Fort Lawn; her sister, Mrs. Arbutus F. Catoe of Kershaw; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and at other times at the home.

Shannon Sanders

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Mr. Shannon Wayne Sanders, 21, of 7445 Blythe Island Road died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Catawba Ward, with Bishop Peter Reynders officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Sanders was a native of Gastonia, N.C.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Donald W. Sanders and Vicky Sanders of the home; his mother and stepfather Sharon and Duan Cooke of Shelby, N.C.; two brothers, Rodney Sanders of Pineville, N.C., and Jonathan Henderson of the home; four sisters, Misty Sanders and Alishia Henderson, both of the home, and Christy Sanders and Tina Turner, both of Brunswick; his paternal grandmother, Doris Yesersky of Rock Hill; his maternal grandfather, Johnny Hooper of Ranlo, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Brenda Whitaker of Mount Holly, N.C.; and his maternal great-grandmother, Margie Hooper of Ranlo.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Doris Yesersky, 460 Feemster Lane, Rock Hill.

Charles Brewer

CLOVER - Mr. Charles Allen Brewer, 19, of 680 Glenn Road died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Abel officiating.

Born in Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Brewer attended Bowling Green Presbyterian Church. He was a student at Webb Street School in Gastonia, N.C.

Surviving are his parents, J. Patrick and Diane Miller Caldwell of the home; his brother, Roger Brewer of York; his grandparents, Charles and Delores Miller of Frost Proof, Fla., and Joe and Dot Caldwell of Clover; and his birth father, Roger Brewer of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. today in the fellowship hall of Bowling Green Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Webb Street School, 1623 N. Webb St., Gastonia, NC 28052.
