John Broadbent Jr.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH - Mr. John Broadbent Jr., 81, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, N.J.

Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Broadbent attended Newark College of Engineering. He was retired from Exxon Research Co., in Linden, N.J., where he was a design draftsman. He was a member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church and the Exxon Pelican Annuitants Club.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Walters Broadbent of North Myrtle Beach; two sons, Jack Broadbent of Rock Hill and Gary Broadbent of Hampton, Va.; his daughter, Carolyn Broadbent of Totowa, N.J.; his brother, James Broadbent of Madison, N.J.; his sister, Anna Ruth Waddell of Denver, Pa., and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 277, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29597.

Josephine Byers

CLOVER - Mrs. Josephine McClure Byers, 67, of 2477 Holly Road died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York, with the Rev. Terry Wallace officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Rufus Byers; her son, Ken Byers of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Angela R. McClure and Roise L. McClure, both of York; her sister, Feannie Neely of McConnells; three brothers, Johnny McClure and Roosevelt McClure, both of York, and Kenneth McClure of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

The body may be viewed from 5 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

William Foster

HUDSON, N.C. - William "Steve" Foster, 9, of Cajah's Mountain Road died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

The funeral was Sunday at Dry Ponds Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Crouse, and the Revs. Russell Cook and J.R. Hill officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Born in Cleveland County, N.C., Steve attended Trinity Baptist Church and Sawmills Accelerated School. He was an honorary policeman with the Gaffney Police Department.

Surviving are his father, George S. Foster of King's Mountain, N.C.; his mother, Lucinda Hill Foster of Hudson; his stepfather, Danny Deese of Hudson; his sister, Stacey Foster of Hudson; his stepsister, Amber Wilson of Hudson; maternal grandparents, Tommy and Barbara Mullinax of Gaffney; maternal great-grandmother, Sarah Benton of Gaffney; paternal grandparents, David and Patricia Hannon of Cherryville, N.C., and Donald and Tilly Foster of Grover, N.C.; paternal great-grandmother, Eva Estes of Grover; paternal stepgrandparents, Junior and Betty Robbins of Burlington, N.C.; and paternal great-grandfather, Jack Hill of Mebane, N.C.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Baptist Church, 104 S.W. Mulberry St., Lenoir, NC 28645.

Greer-McElveen Funeral Home in Lenoir, N.C., was in charge.

Corbett Fowler

ROCK HILL - Mr. Corbett Nuby "Ben" Fowler, 79, of 425 Pendleton St. died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. today in Loris at Dogwood Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Ira Fowler of Catawba; three brothers, Lacy Fowler, Jeff Fowler and Dailon Fowler, all of Loris; his sister, Rebba Cartar of Loris; two grandsons, Derrick Fowler of Rock Hill and Tony Fowler of Catawba; and two granddaughters, Kelli Fowler of Rock Hill and Dawn Fowler of Catawba.

The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday night at the home of his son, Ira Fowler, 323 Rowells Road, Catawba, (803) 329-4901.

Richard Holcomb Jr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Richard Watte Holcomb Jr., 42, of 1232 Choyce Ave. died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at his home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill, with Chaplin Karen Moore officiating. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Holcomb was a native of Monroe, N.C., and was a machinist.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Threatt Holcomb; his parents, Melvin and Margie Hunneycutt Melton of Fort Mill; four brothers, Thomas "Tommy" Holcomb of Indian Land, Johnny Holcomb of Denver, N.C., Kenneth Melton of Kayle, Texas, and Donald G. Melton of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two sisters, Sherry Bush of Catawba and Teresa Berntsen of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his parents, Melvin and Margie Melton, 421 Lancaster Estates, Fort Mill.

Susan Johnson

HEATH SPRINGS - Mrs. Susan Parker Johnson, 44, of 6844 Beecher Horton Road died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, with the Rev. Warren Johnson officiating.

A native of Chicago, Mrs. Johnson was employed at Springs Industries' Grace Bleachery.

Surviving are her husband, Earl Bruce Johnson; her daughter, Ginger Edwards of Rock Hill; her father, Wade Parker Jr. of Kershaw; three brothers, Tim Parker of Columbia, Douglas Parker of Heath Springs and Robert Parker of Kershaw; her sister, Debra Ann Fincher of Monroe, N.C.; and her grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

Charles Kennedy Jr.

YORK - Mr. Charles Hoffman Kennedy Jr., 70, of 5275 Chalet Court died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Lakeview Memory Gardens, with the Rev. George Dye officiating.

Born in Elkins, W.Va., Mr. Kennedy was a supervisor for General Motors Corp. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Freeman Kennedy; four sons, Richard Kennedy of Charlotte, Thomas Kennedy of Carthage, N.C., Robert Kennedy of Lancaster, and Paul Kennedy of York; his daughter, Vicki K. McKinney of Fort Mill; his brother, Robert Kennedy of Rock Port, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

York Funeral Home is in charge.
