Ella Broome

ARLINGTON, Va. - Mrs. Ella Young Broome, 93, of 6217 N. 18th St. died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Fairfax County Hospital in Fairfax, Va.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home in Great Falls. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Broome was a homemaker. She attended the Chester County schools. She was the widow of John Henry Broome.

Surviving are her daughter, Doris Hansberger of Arlington; her son, Henry Leon Broome of Arlington; two sisters, Mary Tarlton of Great Falls and Willie "Bill" Branham of Kershaw; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Margie Floyd, 314 Evans St., Winnsboro.

Margaret Chapman

YORK - Mrs. Margaret Huston Chapman, 76, of 2109 Chester Highway died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Filbert Presbyterian Church in America with the Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating and the Revs. Lee Phillips and Everette Burnette assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Chapman was a retired winder in the textile industry. She was the widow of James H. Chapman Sr. and a member of Filbert Presbyterian Church in America.

Surviving are four sons, James H. Chapman Jr. of Smyrna, Terry Chapman and Mike Chapman, both of York, and Billy Schultz of Clover; two brothers, Martin L. Huston of Clover and Kenneth Huston of Kansas, Mo.; five sisters, Ruby Jenkins, Pauline Patterson, Aileen Mitchell and Bennie Jenkins, all of Clover, and Frankie Lowe of Washington; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Filbert Presbyterian Church in America building fund, 2066 N. Highway 321, York, SC 29745.

George Cunningham

COLUMBIA - Mr. George C. Cunningham, 92, of Columbia, formerly of 111 Chatham Ave. in Rock Hill, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Providence Hospital.

Services at Grandview Memorial Park will be private.

A native of Kings Creek, Mr. Cunningham was a retired Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Asian Pacific Theater and receive three Bronze Stars.

Surviving are his caretakers, James Cook, Lois Cook, Kathy Cook and Mike Cook, all of Rock Hill, and Joyce Shirley and Carol Burns, both of York.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Barbara Gantt

LANCASTER - Mrs. Barbara Adcock Gantt, 55, of 3734 E. North Corner Road died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Bill Allen and Karl Koon officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Morven Community Cemetery in Morven, N.C.

Mrs. Gantt was a kindergarten aide for Busbee Elementary School in Wagener. She was a member of Harvestime Assembly of God Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are her husband, Tommy B. Gantt; her son, Anthony Gantt of West Columbia; two stepsons, Joel Gantt of Clayton, N.C. and Steven Gantt of Brunswick, Ga.; her daughter, Melissa Purvis of Yorkshire, England; two brothers, Boyce Adcock of Morven and Jerry Adcock of Simpsonville; nine sisters, Rachel Myers, Sue Newton and Joyce Porter, all of Wadesboro, N.C., Rose Tucker of Morven, N.C., Janet Harris of Gastonia, N.C., the Rev. Aline Mosteller of Haynesville, N.C., Carolyn Haigler of Waxhaw, N.C., Bernice Talent of Deltona, Fla., and Frankie Beachum of Ridgeway, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

William Archie

FORT MILL - Mr. William Harvey Archie, 77, of 226 S. White St. died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Monson officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

Mr. Archie was born in York County. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II, where he received two bronze stars. He later served in the National Guard and was a member of the American Legion No. 43 and VFW Post No. 9138. He retired from Springs Industries after more than 25 years, and later worked for the town of Fort Mill as a meter reader. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his nephew, Jim Robinson of Fort Mill; .five nieces, Sandra Helms, Janice Stevenson, Susan Jackson and Shirley Broome, all of Fort Mill, and Patricia Shaver of Houston.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Harry Baird

LANCASTER - Dr. Harry Haynes Baird Sr. of 833 Culp Ferguson Road died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First A.R.P. Church, with the Revs. Gilbert Rowell and Sam Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Dr. Baird received his A.B. degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He practiced urology in Charlotte since 1947. Dr. Baird was a diplomat of the American Board of Urology, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the A.C.S. Southeastern Surgical Congress, a member of the American Urological Association, past president of the Downtown Charlotte Rotary Club and a member of First A.R.P. Church in Lancaster.

Surviving are his wife, Jo Culp Baird; two sons, Wallace Baird of Greensboro, N.C., and Harry Haynes Baird Jr. of Emerald Isle, N.C.; his daughter, Alice Boger of Charlotte; his brother, Burns Baird of Mars Hill, N.C.; his sister, Irene Goforth of Mount Vernon, Wash.; two stepsons, Steven Culp of Lancaster and Ed Culp of Orangeburg; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First A.R.P. Church, P.O. Box 864, Lancaster, SC 29721.

Stephen Boyd

COLUMBIA - Mr. Stephen R. Boyd, 78, of 7044 Fairmont Drive in Columbia died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Born in Elberton, Ga., Mr. Boyd retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He also retired from the VA Hospital as a registered nurse. Mr. Boyd was a member of Mt. Moriah Quitman Masonic Lodge No. 59 in Jefferson, La., and Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was the widower of Verna S. Boyd.

Surviving are his daughter, Catharine L. Boyd of Columbia; and his sister, Ellie Boyd Matthews of Rock Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church elevator fund, 1005 Asbury Drive, Columbia, SC 29209.
