Ella Newton

CONCORD, N.C. - Mrs. Ella Santis Newton, 88, of 760 Harris St. died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Concord Nursing and Rehab Center in Concord.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, N.C.

Mrs. Newton was a member of First Foursquare Church. She was a retired spinner at Cannon Mills.

Surviving are her husband, Paul B. Newton; and two sisters, Eva Christine Freeman of Concord and Clara Evon Wheeler of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hartsell Funeral and at other times at the home of her sister, Eva Christine Freeman, 567 Harris St., Concord.

Reba Paul

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Reba Ford Paul, 88, of 223 Annafrel St. died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. Eddie Ramsey officiating.

Mrs. Paul was a Chester County native. She was a member of Park Baptist Church and a retired winder at J.P. Stevens, where she worked more than 50 years. She was the widow of J.D. Paul.

Surviving are her daughter, Ina P. Phillips of Indian Trail, N.C.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church general fund, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Greene Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul Shaver

ROCK HILL - Mr. Paul Everette Shaver, 64, of 4554 Saluda Road died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Yarbrough officiating.

Mr. Shaver was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Methodist Church. He was a retired trucker.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Shaver; three sons, Steve Shaver of Garfield, N.J., and Roy Shaver and Darryl Shaver, both of Rock Hill; six daughters, Nancy Williford and Patty Stajin, both of Rock Hill, Lauren Irwin of Lincoln Park, N.J., and Paula Shaver, Sheila Shaver and Elizabeth Shaver, all of Charlotte; three brothers, Jimmy Shaver, Carl Shaver and Alvin Shaver, all of Rock Hill; five sisters, Vera Faw of Myrtle Beach and Hellen Gunter and Mickey Reese, both of Ridgeway, Mary Golf of South Carolina and Margaret Romeniger of Concord, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Lula Wallace

LANCASTER - Mrs. Lula Vaude Plyler Wallace, 82, of 3603 Taxahaw Road died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Donald Ghant and Greg Towler officiating. Burial will be at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Wallace was a retired Springs Industries employee and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was the widow of Otis Wallace.

Surviving are four sons, the Rev. Bobby R. Wallace of Bishopville and Horace G. Wallace, Cecil E. Wallace and Jack A. Wallace, all of Lancaster; two daughters, Betty Jean Poole and Doris W. McManus, both of Lancaster; her brother, Alfred Plyler of Lancaster; her sister, Peggy Carnes of Lancaster; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, 5003 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to Spring Hill Baptist Church, 2345 Old Camden-Monroe Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Welch Hinton Jr.

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Welch "Junior" Hinton Jr. of Charlotte died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home.

Earl Williams

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Retired Gunnery Sgt. Earl Edward Williams, 63, of 122 Cathay Road died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eugene Ridley officiating. Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mr. Williams was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 343. He was a retire Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Williams; his son, Earl Edward Williams of Wilmington; four daughters, Dee Williams, Donna Stutzenberger, Earline Williams and Debbie Williams, all of Wilmington; two brothers, Billy Williams and Wayne Williams, both of Rock Hill; two sisters, Margaret Godwin and Becky Baker, both of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Coble Ward Smith Oleander Funeral Home.

Arthur Chambers

YORK - Mr. Arthur "Brown" Chambers, 68, of 116 York Park Place died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.

Surviving is his sister, Margaret Ross of the home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 8 tonight at Wright Funeral Home.

Margaret Chapman

YORK - Mrs. Margaret Houston Chapman, 76, of 2109 Chester Highway died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Filbert Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Wallace Tinsley officiating and the Revs. Lee Phillips and Everette Burnette assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Chapman was a retired winder in the textile industry. She was the widow of James H. Chapman Sr. and a member of Filbert Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are four sons, James H. Chapman Jr. of Smyrna, Terry Chapman and Mike Chapman, both of York, and Billy Schultz of Clover; two brothers, Martin L. Houston of Clover and Kenneth Houston of Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Ruby Jenkins, Pauline Patterson, Aileen Mitchell and Bennie Jenkins, all of Clover, and Frankie Lowe of Washington; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Filbert Presbyterian Church building fund, 2066 N. Highway 321, York, SC 29745.
