Thomas Good Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas Swann Good Jr., 78, of 1043 Woodland Drive died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Dr. Shelton Sanford and Dr. William A. Fox Jr. officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Good supervised the filter plant at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. After his retirement, he was the photographer for Westminster Presbyterian Church and published "A Pictorial History of Westminster Towers."

Mr. Good was a baritone in the church choir for 54 years and also was a deacon of First Presbyterian Church before becoming a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of Winthrop University and studied music under Dr. Walter B. Roberts.

Surviving is his wife, Lucy Swearington Good.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC, or to the charity of one's choice.

Jessie Norris

ROCK HILL - Mr. Jessie T. Norris, 75, of 315 N. Jones Ave. died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be noon Tuesday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. L.L. Hancock officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Norris was educated in Lexington County schools and retired from the Rock Hill Telephone Co. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Norris was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the senior choir and was a trustee.

Surviving are three stepsons, Lawrence Edwards, Glenn Edwards and Billy Truesdale, all of Rock Hill; four brothers, Lester Dent of Gilbert, Woodrow Norris of Bronx, N.Y., Sylvester Norris of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bennie L. Norris of San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Eunice Turnipseed of Springs Garden, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Billy Truesdale, 1423 Park Walk St.

The body may be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home and in the church before the service.

James Strong Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. James W. Strong Sr., 64, of 1561 Columbia Road died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.E. Darby officiating and the Revs. Emmanuel Spearman, R.L. McClurkin, J.D. McClurkin, Moses Lightner, William Abell, W.J. Baxter and John Heath assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Strong was a Chester native. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and chairman of the deacon board, sexton and choir leader. He attended the public schools of Fairfield County. He was a member of Gayden Masonic Lodge 318 and was retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are his wife, Mary W. Strong; his son, James Strong Jr. of Buena Park, Calif.; five daughters, Hattie Parks of Columbia, Patricia Craig and Margaret Young, both of Blackstock, Martha Worthy of Chester and Marilyn Strothers of Irmo; two brothers, Joe Willie Brown of Blackstock and Henry Boulware of Baltimore; five sisters, Nancy Bannister and Mattie Boulware, both of Columbia, Louise Horsey of Marion Station, Md., and Orelia Boulware and Martha Vincent, both of Philadelphia; 15 grandchildren; his stepgrandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Sallie Brady

SPARTANBURG - Mrs. Sallie Grist Brady, 70, of 212 Beechwood Drive died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Charles Horne, John White and Stephen Wise officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of York, Mrs. Brady was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and had served as president of the Women of the Church. She also was a past president of Cema Chreitzberg Gardening Club, as well as a charter member and former board member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of South Carolina, a member of NAMI of Greenville and charter president of NAMI of Spartanburg. Mrs. Brady received the 1998 Bernice Potter Volunteer of the Year Award from the Mental Health Association of Piedmont Medical Center.

Surviving are her husband, John L. Brady; two sons, John Brady Jr. of Atlanta and Earle Brady of Greer; and four brothers, William Grist of York, John Lowry of Spartanburg, Oren Brady Jr. of Campobello and Jim Cunningham of Spartanburg.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Lorene Davenport

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lorene Walker Davenport, 84, of 1615 Amber Lane died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Beverly Health Care Center.

Burial will be at Mount Moriah South Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

A native of Kansas City, Okla., Mrs. Davenport worked as a teacher's aide in several child care facilities and was a member of the Presbyterian church. She was the widow of Fred A. Davenport.

Surviving are her son, John N. Davenport of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Jack Davenport of Rock Hill and Brian Davenport of Greer; her granddaughter, Karla Jollie of Rock Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Jollie and Kathryn Jane Jollie, both of Rock Hill, and Alexander N. Davenport of Greer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Pilgrims' Inn Open Arms Child Care, 236 W. Main St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Geneva Mathis

GAFFNEY - Mrs. Geneva Kelley Mathis died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee, Colo., Mrs. Mathis was a retired textile worker and member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. She was the widow of John LeRoy Mathis.

Surviving are her son, Roy Mathis of Gaffney; two daughters, Jane Marie Shull of Rock Hill and LiLoree Rasmussen of Iowa City, Iowa; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the home of Roy Mathis, 100 Vance St., Gaffney.

Dorothy Morris

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dorothy Player Morris, 73, of 3144 Denwood Drive died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Parker officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Morris worked at Springs Industries in Fort Mill for more than 17 years. She was the widow of William J. Morris Jr.

Surviving are her son, Bruce Morris of Ringgold, Ga.; her daughter, Gail Morris of Rock Hill; three brothers, Harold Player and Charles Player of Rock Hill and Jerry Player of Ladson; her grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home.
