Ethel Catoe

KERSHAW - Mrs. Ethel Mae Hendrix Catoe, 83, of 4104 Fork Hill Road died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Kershaw County Medical Center in Camden.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Kershaw City Cemetery.

Mrs. Catoe was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she was former president of the Women's Mission Union and Sunday school teacher of the Mother's Class.

Surviving are her son, Larry C. Catoe of Lancaster; her daughter, Nancy Faulkenberry of Kershaw; two brothers, J.E. Hendrix and Perry Hendrix, both of Kershaw; three sisters, Lyda B. Stogner of Heath Springs, and Glinder Ellis and Juanita Patricia Hendrix, both of Kershaw; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church building fund, 7737 Kershaw-Camden Highway, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Jesse Cockrell

BALTIMORE - Mr. Jesse "Jew" Cockrell, 86, of 132 Avon Beach Road, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Baltimore with the Rev. Lloyd McGriff officiating. The burial will be in Baltimore.

Mr. Cockrell was a native of Fairfield County. He was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Cockrell Wood and Coal Co. in Baltimore.

Surviving are his daughter, Shirley Collins of Baltimore; three sons, Jesse Mack Cockrell, J.T. Cockrell, and Roger Cockrell, all of Baltimore; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at New Shiloh Baptist Church

Memorials may be sent to Douglass Funeral Service, 1701 McCulloh St., Baltimore, MD 21217.

King's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

John Gourley

YORK - Mr. John Robert "Jack" Gourley, 43, of 7231 Park Place Road, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the York Church of God with the Revs. Donald Hawkins and Jack Willis officiating. Burial will be at Bethesda Presbyterian Church cemetery in York.

Mr. Gourley was employed with Custom Paper Tube Inc. in York and formerly worked at Star Paper Tube in Rock Hill for 23 years. He was a member of the York Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Angie Adkins Gourley; his son, Joseph Daniel "Joey" Gourley of the home; his daughter, Hannah Joy Gourley of the home; his mother, Helen Whisonant Gourley of Rock Hill; his brother, Jimmy Gourley of Rock Hill; four sisters, Beth Ferguson, Virginia Starnes, and Barbara McGarity, all of Rock Hill, and Peggy Chambers of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery Association, 4858 McConnells Highway, York, SC 29745; or to the 4-H Dairy Club c/o Peggy Covington, 3955 Chester Highway, McConnells, SC 29726; or to the Girls Club of York Church of God, 201 Charlotte St., York, SC 29745.

Karl Madden

YORK - Mr. Karl F. Madden, 64, of 119 Charlotte St. died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Midway Baptist Church in Clover, with the Rev. James Ellis officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Madden was retired from Cannon Mills in York. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served 19 years.

Surviving are his wife, Molly Ivey Madden; three daughters, Lori Snider of Bath, Mich., Brenda Crisp of Clover, and Claudette Dill of York; his brother, Don Madden of Boston; and six grandchildren.

York Funeral Home is in charge.

Glennie McAteer

LANCASTER - Mrs. Glennie Jowers McAteer, 91, of 1017 Sara Drive died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, N.C.

Mrs. McAteer was a homemaker and the widow of Uite McAteer.

Surviving are three sons, Billy Ray McAteer, Robert Lee McAteer and Dewey Junior McAteer, all of Lancaster; four daughters, Elsie Smith, Ruth Mullis and Verla Brasington, all of Lancaster, and Vanglean Johnson of Greenville; 32 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Dewey McAteer, 1710 Summit Ave., Lancaster.

Theodore McCorkle

SHELBY, N.C. - Mr. Theodore Eugene "Joe" McCorkle, 86, of 1101 N. Morgan St. died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Lesslie.

A native of Lesslie, Mr. McCorkle was retired from Cone Mills in Pineville.

Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Joanne Love and Betty Peterson, both of Shelby; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill and at other times at the home of Doris Hartsoe, 5101 Palmetto Place Apartments, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

George Morgan Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. George Lewis Morgan Sr., 70, of 4943 Mount Gallant Road died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at home.

The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandview Memorial Park, with the Rev. John Shehan officiating.

Mr. Morgan was retired from J.P. Stevens Industrial Mill in Rock Hill and the E.C. Manufacturing Co. in Pineville. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Mary McDaniel Morgan of Boiling Springs, N.C.; two sons, George Lewis Morgan Jr. and Paul Dean Morgan, both of Rock Hill; his daughter, Alice M. Pittman of Rock Hill; two stepsons, Jeffery Carl Lee and James Lee, both of Rock Hill; his brother, Jack L. Morgan of Rock Hill; two sisters, Willie M. McDaniel and Josephine M. Wells, both of Rock Hill; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, Willie M. McDaniel, 2441 Moss Tree Court, Rock Hill.
