Jack Montgomery

LANCASTER - Mr. Jack Dewey Montgomery, 72, of 2172 Powell Ave. died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Dickson officiating. Burial will be in the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. Montgomery was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Shiloh ARP Church.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta Hall; his brother, Harry Montgomery of Lancaster; two sisters, Jean Montgomery Grice of Newport News, Va., and Mildred Montgomery of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hartley Funeral Home at 1800 Charlotte Highway from 6 to 8 p.m. today and at other times at the home of his brother, Harry Montgomery at 1766 Charlotte Highway.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh ARP Church Building Fund, 346 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Hartley Funeral Home is in charge.

Ann Moore

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Ann Harris Moore, 70, of 261 South Herlong Ave. died Friday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tim McClendon and the Rev. Linda Dunn officiating. Burial will be private.

The widow of Phillip Gardner Moore, Mrs. Moore was a native of Rock Hill. She retired from the Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. after 25 years of service and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Vivian M. Carroll and Terry Moore, both of Charlotte; two sons, Phillip G. Moore of Rome, Ga., and Tommy Moore of Rock Hill; three brothers, Lloyd Harris of Columbia, Elliot P. "Abie" Harris Jr. of Chickamauga, Ga., and Gettys N. Harris of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service in the Family Life Center at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202 or to St. John's United Methodist Church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

William Powell

CLOVER - Mr. William "Red" Powell of 101 Carroway Lane died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Clifton officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Community Cemetery.

Mr. Powell was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church and retired from the American Thread Company.

Surviving are his son, William "Bill" Powell of the home; his daughter, Patricia P. Latta of the home; and four brothers, George Brown of Clover, Charles Brown of Gastonia, N.C., Robert Brown of Columbia and Marshal Powell of Providence, R.I.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Generation Funeral Home is in charge.

William Ferrell Jr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Robert Ferrell Jr., 79, of 747 Nations Court died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Ferrell was a mechanic most of his life and was a member of White Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Boulware Ferrell of the home; three sons, William Robert Ferrell III of Sumter, Barry W. Ferrell of Rock Hill and Joel S. Ferrell of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two daughters, Cecelia Ferrell Hawks of Rock Hill and Kathie Ferrell Locklear of Waxhaw, N.C.; his sister, Peggy Ferrell Charles of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his wife.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604 Columbia, SC 29260.

David Gill Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. David Herman Gill Sr., 87, of 3318 Goodplace Road died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. William Pender officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Gill was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, and he retired from Union Carbide Metals Division of Alloy, W.Va., after 39 years.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Cameron Gill; two sons, David H. Gill of Rock Hill and Robert C. Gill of White Plains, Md.; two daughters, Virginia G. Simmon of Charleston, W.Va., and Janet G. Harless of Fayetteville, Ga.; his brother, John C. Gill of Shady Springs, W.Va.; two sisters, Marie Monroe of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bethel Elmore of Cranberry, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at 3318 Goodplace Road in Rock Hill.

Greeno Gilmore Sr.

LANCASTER - Mr. Greeno Tyler "Pete" Gilmore Sr., 78, of 313 S. Hughes St. died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Joel Rhyner and Wade Miles officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A Mount Croghan native, Mr. Gilmore was a retired electronics engineer with WLCM radio. He was a member of the Federal Communications Commission's broadcasting commission and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Jordan Gilmore of the home; four sons, Greeno T. Gilmore Jr., Robert L. Gilmore and Richard Y. Gilmore, all of Lancaster, and Joseph D. Gilmore of Easley; his daughter, Brenda Rollings of Lancaster; two brothers, Jeff Gilmore of Mount Croghan and Ray Gilmore of Kannapolis, N.C.; two sisters, Myrtle Hancock of Kannapolis and Frances Jenkins of Greensboro, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 1180 Garnette Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Charlie Johnson

CHESTER - Mr. Charlie Johnson, 92, of 556 Vance Drive died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Black Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Wilson Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a retired truck driver for Kingland Steel Drum Co. and a member of Black Rock Baptist Church, where he was a choir member. He was also a former member and trustee of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Summit, N.J.

Surviving are his son, Willie Johnson of Chester; two daughters, L. Estelle Hayes and Georgia Johnson, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 45 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home. The body will lie in state at noon Tuesday.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.
