Leatha Campbell

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mrs. Leatha Smith Campbell, 92, of Hillhaven Health Care of Gastonia died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at the nursing home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Grove Church of God with Pastors John P. Smith and Roger Nix officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Campbell was retired from private duty nursing.

She was a member of Hickory Grove Church of God and was active in the senior citizens' group at First Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. Campbell was the widow of Byrd B. Campbell.

Surviving are five sons, William C. Campbell of Danville, Va., Elbert B. Campbell of Hickory Grove, George R. Campbell of Bessemer City, N.C., Rufus L. Campbell and Jerry G. Campbell, both of Gastonia; her daughter, Eva Mae Jackson of Gastonia; two brothers, Clay Smith of Gastonia and R.W. Smith of Atlanta; two sisters, Edna Daniels of Huntersville, N.C., and Jane Eckard of Charlotte; 29 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Ward Funeral Home in Gastonia.

James Fincher

WAXHAW, N.C. - Mr. James B. Fincher, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in Union County, N.C., Mr. Fincher was owner and operator of Mineral Springs Fertilizer Company.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Tyson Fincher; his son, James Burton "Burt" Fincher of Monroe, N.C.; two daughters, Elizabeth Dover of Rock Hill and Crystal Hinson of Monroe, N.C.; his sister, Loree Fincher of Charlotte; and four grandchildren.

McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is in charge.

Grace Moore

CLOVER - The funeral for Mrs. Grace Maebelle Smith Moore, 87, of 2192 Knox Road who died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Eden Gardens in Kings Mountain, N.C., will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church.

The Rev. David Stanford will be officiating.

Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, N.C.

A member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Moore was the widow of Lester L. Moore.

Surviving are two sons, Glenn Moore of Graham, N.C., and Robert Moore of Clover; two sisters, Ruth Smith of Conover, N.C., and Lula Mae Laws of Lenoir, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 117 S. Main St., Clover, SC 29710.

Nellie Oliver

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Mrs. Nellie Mae Cartee Oliver, 52, 705 Maplewood St. died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Whitley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Roddey officiating.

Born in Greenville County, Mrs. Oliver was a homemaker. She was an avid ceramics maker and gardener.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Larry J. Oliver; two sons, Curtis R. Canty of Aiken and Laverne Canty of Rock Hill; two daughters, Tina M. Carey of Kingsport, Tenn., and Diane R. Canty of Marietta, Ga.; her mother, Anna Phiefer Cartee of Rock Hill; five brothers, Willie Cartee of Union, the Rev. Frank Cartee of Aiken, Jimmy Cartee of Anderson, Kenny Cartee of Fort Mill and Donnie Griffin of Rock Hill; four sisters, Susan Robinson of Moncure, N.C., Carol Ann Sanders of Siler City, N.C., and Melinda Brown and Kathy Bell, both of Rock Hill; 12 grandchildren and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Robert Smith

CAMDEN - Mr. Robert George Smith, 65, of 3497 Damascus Church Road died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at the Kershaw County Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born in Loving, Ga., Mr. Smith was an Air Force veteran.

Surviving are two sons, Richard D. "Rick" Smith of Heath Springs and Robert C. Smith of Maryville, Tenn.; two daughters, Robbie Langley of Camden and Alisa Appleby of Delray Beach, Fla.; his brother, Garrnet Smith; five sisters, Leslie S. Nichols of Blakely, Ga., Regina Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., Blanche Ganues of Morganton, Ga., Jeanette S. McGill and Genova Kinser, both of Ellijay, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, is in charge.

Mamie Ashley

INDIAN LAND - Mrs. Mamie Evelyn Moss Ashley, 82, of 9884 Van Wyck Road died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Osceola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mrs. Ashley worked for Memorial Hospital in Charlotte and later as a bookkeeper for Cook's Garage. She was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church and was the widow of Odell Ashley.

Surviving are her son, William Heyward Ashley of Indian Land; three daughters, Frankie Everidge and Patsy Moore, both of Indian Land, and Carolyn Thompson of Rock Hill; her brother, Arthur Ray Giles of Fort Mill; her sister, Betty Hovis of Pineville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Frankie Everidge, 9939 Van Wyck Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Memorials may be made to Osceola United Methodist Church, 6575 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.

George Bell

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Mr. George Washington Bell, 85, of 1702 Wilborn Ave. died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Fox and Don Bryant officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Bell was a member of First Baptist Church and the Masons Faulkner Memorial Lodge. He was a member and past patron of Henry W. Woodall Chapter No. 80 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a retired general contractor.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Dunkley Bell; his daughter, Faye B. Overstreet of Conway; two sisters, Lula B. Thompson of Hampton and Nathalee B. Lucus of Rock Hill; two brothers, Jack Bell and Carlton Bell, both of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Powell Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Halifax County Rescue Squad.
