Charles Beyer

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Mr. Charles "Chuck" Beyer, 77, of 733 Plantation Estates Drive died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at River Hills Community Church, with the Rev. Russ Brown officiating.

Mr. Beyer graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and was a World War II Navy veteran who was stationed in the South Pacific, where he met his wife. He was a district sales manager for GTE Sylvania for 33 years.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Hurst Beyer of the home; four daughters, Gail B. Sinnett, Lynn Roberts and Carol Kimball, all of Charlotte, and Pamela Witter of Evans, Ga.; his sister, Carolyn Frew of Gross Point, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton's Ferry Road, Lake Wylie, SC 29710.

Edna Carnes

BEAUMONT, Texas - Mrs. Edna Threatt Carnes, 87, of 6215 Mayhaw Drive, formerly of Lancaster, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Beaumont Medical & Surgical Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Life Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. Marty Cox and David Anders officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Carnes was retired from Springs Industries. She was the widow of Lee C. Carnes.

Surviving are two sons, Charles L. Carnes of Duncanville, Texas, and Harvey Carnes of Lancaster; two daughters, Ruth Dutton of Beaumont, Texas, and Iva Lee Faile of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Iva Lee Faile, 1101 Skipper Ave., Lancaster.

Beulah Cauthen

LANCASTER - Mrs. Beulah E. Smith Cauthen, 89, of 1031 Old Hickory Apartments died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at her home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Life Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marty Cox officiating. Entombment will be at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A native of Dallas, N.C., Mrs. Cauthen was a retired employee of Springs Industries and a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Reece W. Cauthen Sr.; three sons, Joe G. Cauthen of Baytown, Texas, Reece William Cauthen Jr. of Lancaster and James "Jimmy" Edward Cauthen of Kershaw; two daughters, Shirley Robinson and Betty Easler, both of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to New Life Freewill Baptist Church, 1622 Springdale Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

John Dorsey

ROCK HILL - Mr. John "Jack" Cumming Dorsey, 83, of Rock Hill died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at home.

The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Oratory, with Father William Pentis officiating. Burial will be at the church garden.

Mr. Dorsey was a 1939 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Battleship Indiana. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club. He was retired from Pennsylvania Life as a salesman.

Surviving are his daughter, Kerry D. McMurray of Charleston; and his grandson.

A vigil will be at 7 tonight at in the parlor of Newman Hall at The Oratory. Visitation will follow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to Pilgrims' Inn, P.O. Box 11328, Rock Hill, SC 32731.

James Faile

GREAT FALLS - Mr. James Thomas Faile, 60, of 5 Church St. died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Charlesboro Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gerald Patoka and Buford Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Blackmon Cemetery.

Mr. Faile was retired from Springs Industries. He was a member of Charlesboro Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Mungo of Lancaster and Lisa Faile of Great Falls; two brothers, Bobby G. Faile of Lancaster and Ernest Lavon Faile of Kershaw; two sisters, Patricia Usher of Waxhaw, N.C., and Elsie Ballard of Jeffersonville, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel and at other times at the Church Street home and at the home of Bobby Faile, 8185 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Richard Gardner Sr.

KERSHAW - Mr. Richard Onley Gardner Sr., 86, of 9808 Flat Creek Road died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flat Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Warren Jones officiating. The Rev. Robert Jeske will give the eulogy. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at the church cemetery.

Mr. Gardner was a retired inspector for the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a graduate of Wingate College, a member of Macedonia Masonic Lodge No. 239 and a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. He was the widower of Viola Catoe Gardner.

Surviving are his son, Richard O. Gardner Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Zeta Sistare of Fort Mill and Peggy Catoe Jr. of Layton, Utah; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church, 8603 Old Jefferson Highway, Kershaw, SC 29067.

Rae Glenn

CLOVER - Mrs. Rae Quinn Glenn, 91, of 1582 Ridge Road died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at Wilkerson Care in Gastonia, N.C.

The graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. John Gess officiating.

Mrs. Glenn was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Robert Johnston Glenn.

Surviving are her son, LeRoy F. Glenn of Clover; two daughters, Joyce Reneau of Gastonia, N.C., and Mary Anne Robinson of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Association, 2445 Highway 557, Clover, SC 29710.
