William Brandon

ROCK HILL - Mr. William Edward "Ed" Brandon, 68, of 205 Green Bay Drive died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Wesleyan Church of Rock Hill, with the Revs. Leroy Cox and Todd Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mr. Brandon was a member of York First Wesleyan Church. He retired after 15 years from L&H Technology in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Marian Ricks Brandon; his son, Michael "Mike" E. Brandon of Midland, N.C.; his daughter, Joan Brandon of Rock Hill; his brother, Thomas Brandon of York; his sister, Maggie Carver of York; and his grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Samuel Gilfillan

BLACKSBURG - Mr. Samuel "Sam" Edward Gilfillan, 80, of 149 Gilfillan Road died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Nazareth Baptist Church, with the Revs. Joseph Clayton and Alton Martin officiating. Entombment will be at Clingman Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

A native of Hickory Grove, Mr. Gilfillan was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Hickory Grove.

Surviving are his wife, Grophie Mae Childers Gilfillan; two sons, Eddie Gilfillan and Kent Gilfillan, both of Blacksburg; three daughters, Betty Leagan and Brenda Moss, both of Blacksburg, and Yvonnie Gordon of Gaffney; three brothers, Calvin Gilfillan of Hickory Grove, Burt Gilfillan of Clover and Johnny B. Gilfillan of Sharon; three sisters, Annie Mae Martin of Hickory Grove, Martha Hogue of York and Jean White of Blacksburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1300 Baxter St., Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28204 or the Leukemia Society of America, 5624 Executive Center Drive, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Elizabeth Jones

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Elizabeth P. Jones, 89, of 4009 Craig Ave. died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. She was the widow of B.A. Jones.

Surviving are three sons, Bobby Jones and Pete Jones, both of Fort Mill, and Mickey Jones of Dillon; her daughter, Billie Mae Plowman of Indian Trail, N.C.; her sister, Lila Mae Smith of Morganton, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 32 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bobby Jones, 1658 Country Lodge Road, Fort Mill.

James Lockhart

CHESTER - Mr. James L. Lockhart of Chester County Nursing Center, formerly of 234 McFadden St., died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Chester County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 5:30 p.m. today at Second Wilson Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. W.M. Bryson officiating.

Mr. Lockhart was a native of Laurinburg, N.C. He was retired from the S.C. Highway Maintenance Department and was a member and trustee of Second Wilson Baptist Church. He attended Scotland County, N.C., public schools.

The family will receive friends at the home of his caregivers, Tommy and Bessie Dixon, 109 Hope St., Chester.

Denton Funeral Home is in charge.

Barbara Murphy

YORK - Mrs. Barbara Diane Murphy, 54, of 1886 Flatrock Road died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kings Mountain United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Usher and Paul Ballard Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy was employed with Credit Systems Inc. in Charlotte. She attended Kings Mountain United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, James B. Murphy III; her son, Dwain Raymond Kester of California; two daughters, Lannette M. Gay and Lisa D. DeVault, both of York; her parents, Homer and Vanetta Bullard of Murray, Ky.; her sister, Jackie Hill of Murray, Ky.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Lisa DeVault, 6475 Pine Forest Drive, York.

Mary Plyler

LANCASTER - Mrs. Mary Frances Ehrlich Plyler, 83, of 610 W. Barr St. died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Needham Williamson and Morris J. "Skip" Ehrlich III officiating. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery.

Mrs. Plyler was a 1936 graduate of Queens College and was a homemaker. She was a nationally accredited master flower show judge, was a national life member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the S.C. Judges Club, Lancaster Garden Club, Lancaster County Governor's Community Improvement and Beautification Committee and the Lancaster Study Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was on the staff parish relations committee.

Surviving are her daughter, Jo Anne Plyler of Jacksonville, Fla.; and her brother, Dr. Morris J. Ehrlich of Chester.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. today at home.

Memorials may be made to the charity or church of one's choice.

Mahaffey Funeral Home is in charge.
