Maude Elder

LANCASTER - Miss Maude Elder, 96, of White Oak Manor, formerly of Fort Lawn, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Union Ezell AME Zion Church in Fort Lawn, with the Rev. William Long officiating and the Rev. Dr. Osbey Roddey assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Miss Elder was a member of Union Ezell AME Zion Church, where she was a former missionary. She was educated in the public schools of Chester County.

Surviving are her caretakers, Margie Holeman and Calla Wright, both of Catawba; and the Rev. Dr. Osbey Roddey of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Kings Funeral Home.

William Hopkins

ROCK HILL - Mr. William C. Hopkins, 80, of 1448 Russell Road died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Talmadge Bass officiating and the Rev. Harold Johnson assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Hopkins was a member of Grace Covenant Pentecostal Church. He was a retired painter for Roberts Painting Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Frank Roach Post 34 and the Hickory Post Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Greene Hopkins; five sons, Bobby Hopkins, Jerry Hopkins and William Carson Hopkins Jr., all of Rock Hill, Billy Ray Hopkins of Fort Lawn and Rick Hopkins of Little River; five daughters, Joeann Privette of Fort Lawn, Judy Rabon of York, Vivian Hare of Chester, Luvenia Stacks of Lancaster and Donna Gross of Conway; his sister, Erlene Barrett of Jefferson; 30 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Grace Covenant Church, 2201 Chester Highway, York, SC 29745.

Mamie Hill

HAMPTON, Va. - Mrs. Mamie Brown Hill of Hampton, Va., formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Hampton.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday in Hampton. Burial will be in Hampton.

She was a graduate of Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill, Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. She taught in the Fort Mill schools.

Surviving are her son, William Hill Jr. of Hampton; two daughters, Denise Hill of Hampton and Judge Belinda Joy Hill of Houston; three brothers, James Leroy Brown of Connecticut, Bobby Brown of Charlotte, and Booker Brown of Rock Hill; two sisters, Alberta Zimmerman of Newark, N.J. and Mildred "Skeet" Brown of Rock Hill.

Cooke Brothers Funeral Home, 1601 27th St., Newport News, Va., is in charge.

Galen Jones

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Galen Stacey Jones, 36, of 221 N. Cloudman St. died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Homesley officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Surviving are his mother, Madeline Presnell Jones of Charlotte; his brother, Jason Douglas Jones; and several aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be made in memory of his father, Jerry Gilbert Jones Jr., to the Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Juanita Ray

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Juanita Lucas Ray, 75, of Columbia died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Killian Baptist Church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Northeast.

Surviving are her husband, George F. Ray; her son, L.A. "Buck" Ray of Brunnell, Fla.; four daughters, Hilda Kramer and Pamela Johnson Branham, both of Blythewood, Annette Michaux of Palm Coast, Fla., and Elaine Estes of Rock Hill; two sisters, Juline Lorick of Batesburg/Leesville and Mavis Addy of Gilbert; her brother, Craft Lucas of Swansea; 10 grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home.

Mary Ray

WILLISTON - Mrs. Mary Ghent Ray, 89, of Church Street died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 7 tonight at the Folk Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Stover and Mike Decosta officiating. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Dekalb Baptist Church cemetery in Camden.

Mrs. Ray was retired from the Richland School District No. 1 Food Service. She was a member of Winfield Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty R. Gray of Columbia, Mrs. Delayne R. Young of Hopkins and Patricia R. Rucker of Williston; her sister, Lois G. McDonough of Lancaster; her brother, Harry Wade Ghent of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. today at Folk Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Williston Rescue Squad or the charity of one's choice.

Elizabeth Jones

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Elizabeth P. Jones, 89, of 4009 Craig Ave. died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville, N.C.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. She was the widow of B.A. Jones.

Surviving are three sons, Bobby Jones and Pete Jones, both of Fort Mill, and Mickey Jones of Dillon; her daughter, Billie Mae Plowman of Indian Trail, N.C.; her sister, Lila Mae Smith of Morganton, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; 32 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bobby Jones, 1658 Country Lodge Road, Fort Mill.

Harry Kline Sr.

PHOENIX - Mr. Harry E. Kline Sr., 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at a Phoenix hospital.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Phoenix. Burial will be in Phoenix.

Mr. Kline was a native of Johnston, Pa. He was employed for 20 years at American Viscose of Meadville, Pa. He also sold Raleigh products for 20 years in Pennsylvania.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Kline; three sons, Harry E. Kline Jr. of Rock Hill, and William L. Kline and Jefferson E. Kline, both of Phoenix; three daughters, Donna Powers of Phoenix, Thelma Kindervater of Wyoming, and Patricia Brubaker of Meadville, Pa.; his sister, Carribelle Johnson of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 950 W. Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Chapel of the Chimes in Glendale, Ariz., is in charge.
